I think it was a Larry Michael int in the locker room. Robert said like....Paraphrasing heavily. "He's not playing well and he was going to do what it takes to return to his more productive form. Regardless of the people.....advising against the run, he would take what was there. If a run presented itself....He'd RUN"!

Saw a rumor about Shaw from Stanford being on Snyder's radar.... not quite sure how accurate that is but interesting no doubt

Well I mean the Bucs went from 3-13 to 10-6 just 3 years ago. And look at Raheem and Josh Freeman now!!!

I think Shanahan has through his fifth season, like many have said he has had to deal with sub par players the last two years at a lot of positions due to the cap hit. However, I would say a lot of contracts appear to be up in 2014 and 2015 so that would be perfect for change as a coach would like to bring in players that suits their style.

Seattle was 4-12 and 5-11 the two seasons prior to Carroll and the front office changes. They actually had Hasslebeck starting at QB at the time and he was still a good starter, but that front office and Carroll brought in a lot of the young talent they have today.

The Saints turned it around quickly once Payton and Brees came aboard.

But, at the risk of beating the horse further, they did not face a $36 mil. penalty.

They had success before that though and young talent, also haven't not strapped by the cap with horrible contracts of the past like Shanny had. We haven't any success with building a team since Gibbs was here the 1st time, it's going to take a decade to completely recover.
The team that was basically in the exact same situation we were in when Shanahan took over was Seattle. Years of mismanagement, lacking talent, knowing the QB of the future wasn't on the roster, and both franchises made an ill-advised trade of a day 2 draft pick (or at least what would now be day 2) that returned no stability at the QB position.

Seattle clearly did not need more than three years to completely change the position of their franchise in the NFL. They were down for two seasons.
Let's see. Did Pete Carroll inherit

1) Oldest team in the league-

Nope.

2) Team in cap hell due to outrageous contracts from previous regime.

Nope.

3) Team penalized 36 million in cap room.

Nope.

Don't even compare Pete Carroll's situation he stepped into with Shanahan. It's not even remotely close. The only team that even remotely compares would possibly be the Raiders. Only they have been as idiotic as we have with draft picks and stupid contracts. Not only that, the NFC West was garbage when Carroll came into the league, and even got into the playoffs with a 7-9 record. Do you think he would have anything close to that playing in the NFC East back then? Hell no.

What was the difference in Bill Bellicheks and Pete Carroll's situations from their first stint as head coaches to their second stint. Their situation. If you think these guys some some epiphany after they were fired that led to to become some sort of coaching genius than I have some ocean front property to sell you in Utah.

For the record, I"m not excusing Mike for some of the crap that has gone on because some of it is most definitely coaching issues, and I've stated that before. I just don't like the fact some of you are trying to act like this was fixable in 2-3 years with the restrictions and handcuffs put on him.(restricted FA/Lockout/cap penalty)

My one memory of David Shaw was in the fiesta bowl a few years ago. It's Stanford vs. Oklahoma St. Andrew Luck vs Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon.

The game is high scoring, going back and forth. Luck, as we all knew was the best NFL talent that year and arguably the best or second best (at worst) talent in college football. OK States defense couldn't stop Luck. The kicker got Stanford missed the first FG. Ok he'll shake it off.

Then the kicker misses a second FG, would have won them the game in regulation. Hmm maybe we should start going for it on 4th down...

Then it's overtime, Stanford has stopped OK St. Luck again is driving down the field with ease. Instead of continuing the drive with Luck Shaw figured, "lets just kick it." Nope missed it again. And Stanford lost the game by 3.

So why did I bring this up? Because David Shaw had a great talented player that couldn't be stopped playing in a huge game, and he decided to play it safe and stupid trusting a kicker who missed multiple FGs, over a using a talented player like Luck. What's to say he doesn't know how to utilize a talent like Robert? That's what we want and from what I've seen of Shaw handling talent on big stages, I'm not knocking on his door thinking he can fix our teams and offenses problems.

Basically, they were old, and had fatal flaws because the previous regime did not know what it was doing. With, of course, some rough contracts.

As far as the cap penalty goes, lets make this tangible. Which player who is struggling with the Redskins right now would have failed to make the Redskins roster with $18 million more in cap space? Use an actual player's name. Someone who is on this team because we didn't have the cap room to replace him, even though we wanted to.

Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?

The last year and this year have stunted the growth of the team and organization with the cap penalty. Especially last offseason we couldn't add any o-line help or secondary help with zero money to spend or to keep our own guy AKA Lorenzo. Oh and a QB coming major knee surgery who isn't a pocket passer and team are making him throw to beat them. He is proving he needs a lot of work to get there, he is a horrible right now at reading defenses and progressing through his reads.
Name one team that turned around despite a $36 mil. cap penalty.
I'll one up you. There's a team that had nothing going for it. Winless for more than a season, and under a new head coach had completely turned the corner by year three. This year, top of the division and it's a way better division than the NFCE. Any guesses?

Name me an HC with more top to bottom control than Mike? Makes him more responsible for his team than any other HC. Pretty simple.
