Cap number and he isn't a "chip" guy. A new regime wants his guys.

To the others who saying Reid isn't interested is red flag is crap. The chiefs simply can't afford d jax, they are gonna have big cap problems starting next year. Simply not fesiable.

More likely cap/need issues. We have cap we have need. They have less cap, less need at WR
This isn't the management that brought in Sanders/Archuleta etc. Jackson is not 33 and done. We didn't trade a pick to a division rival for a used up qb. Heck we don't even know if we overpaid him yet.

It is an opportunity to bring in a playmaker, a dynamic returner, a competent 2nd WR to compliment Garcon and Roberts. Maybe the organization makes a solid effort to bring him in and pays an appropriate price to seal the deal.

Lets let this FO have a reasonable time before we condemn them for sins of redskins past.
Exactly..some people can't get beyond the past. Jackson upgrades a spot in desparate need of an upgrade. It also allows us flexibility in the draft (especially at #34) since we'd be out of the blue chip WR market and can focus on RT, CB and S.

A top 10 playmaker in his prime, fits a specific need, opens things up for everything underneath and the running game. The opportunity to give Griffin another major weapon, you've got to seriously consider it. Adding him instantly moves our skill position group right up near the top of the pack.

He could be the next Cris Carter leave the shegles put up great numbers at the next team and end up in the Hall of Fame.

Or he could be the next Fred Davis, missing meetings, questionable work ethic, fighting with your WR coach.

I had that thought yesterday as well. What if social media/today's 'journalists' existed when Cris Carter was an Eagle and cut because of his secret drug problem.

There have been less that stellar dudes playing in the NFL for a long time, people need to get over themselves a little bit.

I think the number one reason was money. The other stuff can be managed. He's not going out and robbing people.
Where do you want me to start on the free agency list? Should I start with Deon Sanders and work down? This team isn't remotely close to contending. There are much greater needs than 1 WR. If we were stacked (likef 49ers/Seattle), I could see the move, as it is, this is just a band aid. Seems this team is never going to learn. (or its fans)
Redskins can't get stacked. The moment we sign a name everyone screams 2000. Vinny Cerratto, and the entire nine. How many troubled players have the Patriots signed. Hasn't slowed them down one bit. You need talent to win in the NFL not character, Jimmy Johnson's Dallas Cowboys proved that.

Re: DeSean Jackson meeting with the Redskins on Monday
I can understand the concern but I can also dispel the notion that Desean will prevent us from resigning our big guns with a little cap analysis.

Let's look at 2015 where we currently have $107M committed to 42 players. The cap is estimated to come in around $140M, so there's currently $33M in space there.

So starting with $33M in space:

- figure on $10M in space for 8 more players, taking you up to 50
- figure on $7M in space for Desean, taking you to 51

Let's stop there. That leaves you $16M in space, with Desean, and with a full roster. So now think of the typical offseason moves they'll face next year before you begin making moves:

- Stephen Bowen has a cap hit of $8.0M. You could save $5.5M by releasing him. Um, bye.

- Chris Chester has a cap hit of $4.8M. You could save $4.0M by releasing him. Um, later bro.

- Logan Paulsen has a cap hit of $2.1M. Nice enough player, but cutting him saves you $1.7M. You could, at minimum, get him to easily drop that salary and bring him back.

Let's stop there. You just added $10M in space with those cuts. So we're back to $26M. Now what:

- Let's say we give Griffin the big extension and he eats $15M in space instead of his $6.7M he's scheduled to. So $8.3M additional space gone.

- Let's say we extend Trent for life. His cap number would actually come down from $13.7M to like $10M. So believe it or not that creates space in 2015.

- We lock up AlMo because he's a beast. $5M cap hit.

- We lock up Orakpo. $8M cap hit.

- We lock up Kerrigan. $6M cap hit.

Stop there. Those moves ate $23M in space. You now have $3M in space left.

So yes, you can keep everyone with Desean just fine. And I'm probably being very liberal with the cap hits on Almo, Orakpo, and Kerrigan. There are other moves that could be made in there as well to save cap space.

It's not a problem, Desean fits fine if we want him.
Thanks for laying that out. It just seems shocking we could fit all that in.

And to your point of not having to take a WR at #2, I REALLY would prefer that. That's about the most risky of all positions, and the last thing I want to do is something like that diminishes our chances of improving even if it's not a sexy pick like WR.

All this Desean Jackson talk only reminds me of the fact that we could have had him already. He was on the board when we picked in 2008 and we went with Devin Thomas instead. LOL! Oh Vinny you scamp you!

How many Super Bowls did the Vikings win with Carter? How many is Calvin Johnson up to? Fiztgerald? Andre Johnson? Insert elite WR name here.

Super Bowls aren't won by great Wide Receivers and teams that over-spend at that position, and Running Back for that matter, are going to have a difficult time building a championship caliber roster.

His contract is going to hamstring this franchise for years to come. With the same talent already on the roster, the Skins were a top 5 Offense just 2 years ago. The 3-13 record last year had nothing to do with not having a "viable" #2 Receiver.

The Offense can be plenty productive without him, but the team will suffer in the long run due to his cap hit.
