Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

I'm seeing the media speak a lot about double standards regarding stars like Floyd Mayweather but he's been on my list of grade A-Dbag/wife beaters for a while now.

If one good thing has come out of this Ray Rice fiasco its that domestic violence finally seems to be getting treated seriously. Feels like we've come a long way since Chris Brown got community service for felony assault. Ironically enough Mayweather seems to be one of the few high profile wifebeaters to actually have been punished by the courts.

Though I will admit our pitchforks may be getting a bit too sharp at this point. With domestic violence finally getting long overdue attention hopefully people will remember that being labeled a wifebeater is deservedly one of the worse labels a person can carry and it shouldn't be thrown around lightly.

Of course when you have a layup like the Ray Rice case and offer probation in the court of law and a 2 game slap on the wrist with the NFL it becomes hard to resist the temptation to slam your head into a wall.

By the way has anyone seen that now there's rumors that the NFL most definitely saw the elevator tape?
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive three months ago, while league officers have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week.
Hooray no TMZ breaking the story this time....I think.

At this point Roger can only be incompetent or a liar.

BTW I saw a stat today that said since 2000 there have been 740 plus NFL player arrests, 87 of them domestic abuse related. No one cared though until someone got 1 on tape.

Cover up can be worse than the crime. Goodell should know better

Everybody, people/businesses included, should know better at this point, yet the former always seems to be the route people take. There aren't any secrets in this day and age of cameras everywhere.

Spit in her face twice? Really? That's almost just as offensive as the hit. Hell, that would have ended the relationship alone.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

This thing is exploding into a major scandal.
The AP story that a police office sent the video to the NFL back in April. That an NFL employee then called back to verify they received and saw it. That message from NFL is recorded.
Goodell canceled his speaking event tonight. The NFL main office is circling the wagons.
Ray Rice's attorney said he had a copy of the damaging elevator footage in the first meeting they had with NFL/Goodell investigating this attack and they never asked him for it. They did not even ask if a video existed. Plausible deniability.

The irony in all of this is two years ago, Roger Goodell told the Saints that ignorance was not a suitable defense in the Bountygate scandal. In the wake of the second Ray Rice video, the NFL commissioner is using that same defense. His credibility is gone.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

All this focus on Goodell is allowing the Ravens organization to get away with their mishandling of the situation.

It was the Ravens organization which tweeted on their official Twitter account an apology from Janay Rice (which since has been deleted), it was the Ravens PR that featured Rice's marriage on their website, and the Ravens could have given Rice their own punishment.

I'm not saying Goodell and the NFL are innocent, but no one is calling for anyone in the Ravens to be held accountable for their cover up.

PS: Now there's a story where Ozzie Newsome says that Rice told them was happened in the elevator video:

They are still bitter, makes sense.

Again while I've been extremely critical of goodell, I still don't think he should go unless he personally saw the tape and lied about it. Yes mistakes were made, I don't think he should step aside.

Re: Ravens release Ray Rice

From the article, so much BS floating around on this one:
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league suspended Rice because his account was not consistent with what the video showed. Presumably, that was the Ravens' reason too, but we didn't know because their brass was in hiding.

Then Bisciotti, Cass and Newsome spoke to the Baltimore Sun on Wednesday, and Newsome said no, Rice told them what happened and that's what the tape showed.

Sun: "Did the video match the story Ray Rice told you?

"You know. Ray had given a story to John [Harbaugh] and I," Newsome said. "And what we saw on the video was what Ray said. Ray didn’t lie to me. He didn’t lie to me.”That certainly goes against the presumed narrative, that the Ravens and NFL had to take serious action against Rice after it saw the video, because something more happened on the surveillance video than they were told, and they were misled by Rice. But Newsome said, pretty clearly, that Rice told them exactly what was on the video.
I thought "the video changed things."
John Harbaugh said he only saw the Ray Rice tape on Monday. "It's something we saw for the first time today," Harbaugh said. "It changed things of course. It made things a little bit different."
So Rice told them exactly what was on the tape. He didn't lie, he didn't mislead them. "I cold cocked her and knocked her out cold in one punch and then told the security officer she was drunk."

"Oh, okay Ray. Cool by us. Let's get her on the podium saying she asked for it and all will be good."

It's almost comical to think that if Goodell had admitted to seeing 'other' footage (ie the footage that was recently made public) when the two game suspension was originally announced that he would be in less trouble than he is now.

Speakin of which:
