Re: Our Secondary

hall is not a de-cleater but for a FS i want someone who can go sideline to sideline and know how to read plays and line up the secondary.

i think hall can do all of that.

like joe said, the transition will take some time and is not guaranteed to work.

did we ever actually move springs to FS? i think we practiced some at safety but im not sure if he ever lined up there in a real game.
D. Hall as safety is intriguing. I think he brings a lot to the table but the concept that he could just slide over and be the D's tackler of last resort is a bit of a reach. He very much has the CB mindset ("I'm on an island, my guy won't catch the ball.") Being a safety requires playing a lot more facing the QB than running with the WR.

IF he can make the transition, I am all for it. I just think it's a bigger transition and a bigger IF than folks make it out to be.
I think the problem we've had at FS is that we don't have a guy with good coverage skills and some speed to be that last line of defense against the pass. I think we can have a decent secondary with Amerson/Breeland at CBs, DHall at FS, and Phillip Thomas at SS.

Re: Our Secondary

personally hoping the first round pick is the top safety. I don't expect ST21 again, but I want to see someone who steps in and takes the position no questions asked. 2nd round should be best OL. Yes I'm talking draft, but that's where the next SS and RT ought to come from. Then fill in the rest. I really believe those two positions are the key to get to the next level, assuming Griffin can stay healthy and is able to be a top 10 qb.

Defensive line needs to be a high priority next offseason too. Above offensive line, in my opinion.

Re: Our Secondary

I can't agree D line needs more attention than O line. We have Hatcher, Bowen, Jenkins, Cofield, Nield (assuming he comes back from injury), Kearse (3 sacks so far), and Baker. That's 7 guys capable of real playing time, although admittedly only Hatcher and Cofield are impact players. On o line - who protects the franchise QB, assuming we have one - only Williams is a legit, and maybe litchensteiger. The other 3/5 of the line is poor - can't create holes to run through or protect the QB, both needed to sustain drives and keep the D off the field. We need more help on O line in my view. A lot more help.

Gotta give the young guys on the offensive line time to develop, especially Moses. Guard or center would be fine high, but it shouldn't be a priority. On the defensive line, Hatcher is by far the most impactful player, and he's 32. Cofield is the starting NT when healthy and he's 30. Bowen is also 30. Get younger and better up front.
Breeland is going to have some growing pains but I'm fine with having a young guy out there. Im just worried his lack of speed will be exposed.

I hate RAK. doesn't show up in NFC east games. I would rather have Rob Jackson back.
I always thought Jackson should be starting myself. I think he's a more complete LBer and has better production. Plus he doesn't break every year.

Have no idea. He had a hell of a year the year he started in place of an injured Orakpo.
