Re: Redskins 2015 Signings (and Re-Signings) Thread
From all that i have read about Jeron Johnson have been extremely positive..and im not talking about from Redskin sites or sources either. Im sure our new GM is very familiar with him and knows what he can do as well. Check out the Youtube video of his draft profile coming out of college. Four year starter.. leading tackler for 3 years..agressive explosive tackler...with speed. only real knock on him was his average size and athletic ability. You cant really knock him for only having 1 PD if he never really got playing time in Seahawks all world secondary. That said..he stayed on their roster and was a special teams demon.. I would love to see us sign this kid. He seems like an up and comer with the drive and hunger to play well for us. Just the kind of player we need and he wont cost a fortune either.

I like Phillip Thomas, given a chance he could be a starter. He's behind due to injuries, I have high hopes for him. |
Re: Redskins 2015 Signings (and Re-Signings) Thread
j johnson is a good depth and special teamer at worst. he's not any worse than all the other bad options at safety... at least he has some upside.
I think it'll be culliver/breeland outside, hall in the slot, amerson on the bench. hall could play FS, but he's so severely undersized that he'd be a durability concern. I don't think putting amerson there solves anything (he's be just as bad at FS as he is as a CB). hopefully we can ditch tracy porter now. he got $2M for playing 2 downs last year, #$@#$@. trying to trade down to land the only decent safety in the top 2 rounds is a terrible idea btw. you're betting that the staff likes him, he'd fit, and that no one else would take him. it's also like giving yourself tunnel-vision and missing out on potentially better options for the skins future (like an elite pass rusher). scot's offseason is running a solid A+ in my books (assuming culliver's off field issues don't affect his status with the team). the safe pick in the draft would be an OLB/pass rusher, grabbing j johnson and hoping he's good... and i have no idea where you're going to find a RT or starting safety right now though. we might just be scanning camp cuts for depth and waiting till next year if no one emerges. oh, and we need better QB play, so there's still that. |

I just went to look up his highlights and it turns out he is the one who got the QB pressure on Cousins to end the playoff game in 12', it would be like he is coming full circle.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WknnBsjAOk |

Dude is a Thumper, it would be really nice to have someone roaming the backfield that gives receivers alligator arms again because they know they are about to get destroyed, Like ST used to. ( I am not comparing the two directly, jus the concept). You can't fault him at all for not starting, I truly hate the seahawks they are right up there with the cowboys and eagles for me, but there is no denying that their safeties are beasts and some of the best in the league. On another note has anyone else noticed that a lot of players come out and speak really highly of and are loyal to Scot McC, It seems unusual for a GM to have that, usually it is reserved for a coach. We really got a good one there and I think any of his former players that we want, w have a true chance at landing. |

Johnson may become a good player, however there is no evidence that he deserves a contract much more the the 5th year minimum

I like him to, doesn't mean that he has shown it's his job. Competition would only make him better. A typical safety takes 2-4 years to be ready to start in the nfl. |
Re: Redskins 2015 Signings (and Re-Signings) Thread
There is nothing given to the secondary, just like the online. Mosses may develop but it doesn't mean I wouldn't draft a tackle in rounds 1-2 in the draft.

Jeron Johnson, SS for the Seattle Seahawks at NFL.com
He's young, has plenty of potential upside, and has been part of a well-coached, well-disciplined defense. No, he shouldn't get a "break the bank contract" but, there is shortage of true blue chip safeties on the market, and the current going rate for "just-a-guy" safeteys is well above vet minimums. Bottom line, if you think Johnson is going to be signed for a vet min contract, (with all due respect) you're delusional. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk |
Re: Redskins 2015 Signings (and Re-Signings) Thread
i would rather roll the dice on J Johnson and possibly catch lightning in a bottle than take a shot on any of the remaining safties available not named Ron Parker and/or Landon Collins. I think he might surprise some folks and i trust SM knows what he is doing by trying to get him here. Worse case scenario he elevates our ST play and is a backup safety... both of which is badly needed as well.

Bottom line, given the intelligence of his moves so far, if Scot McC signs him, I will be good with it.

Re: Redskins 2015 Signings (and Re-Signings) Thread
what McC is doing with our defense really reminds me of the Seahawks, he is getting a big mean front seven that will get after the passer without blitzing and with the addition of Culliver and having Breeland both of whom have and real attitude and are not afraid to hit and get dirty at the corner spot, now all we need are some decent safeties and our defense is going from a major liability to a major strength.
Let Chip Kelly build his small fast offense it isn't going to matter much since Bradford is going to be on his ass constantly and their receivers and corners are going to be so beat up from constant bump and run and press coverage that they will be useless. In dallas tony and his bad back will not hold up long and we know Breeland can handle Dez. I think we will be a lot more competitive next year and not a look over game for anyone. |
Re: Redskins 2015 Signings (and Re-Signings) Thread
it does seem like SM is building our D alot like the Seahawks...but i remember hearing that our new DC wants to play mostly zone coverage with our DBs which doesnt appear to be their strong suit. I just hope we dont have our DBs lined up 10 yards off the line of scrimmage on 3rd and 2 like we did almost everytime last year in those situations.

We have Ihenacho too, he was resigned this offseason, I remember liking him with the Broncos, what does everyone think of him and why does no on talk about the guy? |
Re: Redskins 2015 Signings (and Re-Signings) Thread
People are fixated on what round safeties are drafted on. McC has drafted Richard Sherman a CB in the 5th round, Dashon Goldson on the 4th round. Who's to say he can't find a S in the mid rounds. Chancellor was also a 5th round pick. J. Johnson and Sherman are both from Compton, just saying.
