great article. It does not justify the team's handling of McCloughan's departure by any means, but the results speak for themselves. We've done better acquiring talent without him.

I have been wondering if the positioning of Doug Williams has to do with keeping personalities in check and facilitating team work in the front office.....

He seems like the type of guy people would talk to and more importantly listen to. I cant remember a sliver of me first ego out of Doug, just genuine humility.

Bottom line is there has been real improvement since Mr Smith went to Washington (both Sr and Jr) and it has been quite enjoyable.

This is a stretch.

Probably written by Bruce Allen.

2017 Draft: Drafted 10 players, only 1 starter

2018 Draft: Drafted 8 Players, only 2 starters assuming Guice makes it back.

We aren't going to win many games with a roster full of backups.

Loving the Martin pick, I think he will be the biggest rookie surprise.

What I loved in his highlights, on top of the strength, the pancakes blocks, and the sustained all day long blocks, is that I think he'll be able to learn blocking schemes really fast because on a lot of plays he was switching from one defender to another with incredible smoothness and vision.
He sure was passing stunts better than Lauvao.

Too simplistic a view, especially in light of injuries we suffered. Every year you expect to lose 5-10 starters to FA, so every team will look to replace them in at least 3 ways, not 1; promoting #2's, FA and draft. Maybe more FA/UDFA after the draft and maybe even preseason trades.

That means that if you just start out with your base 7 picks, you are unlikely to replace starters with all of your draft picks. Plenty of picks don't pan out and plenty take 2-3 years to establish themselves and become regular starters. If you get 2-3 starters in your class, and especially in Y1 then you're doing OK.

If I am right, every one of our 2017 & 18 picks are still with the team, which is something in itself, and as of right now, 6 from our last 4 drafts are down as starters (I know I include Doctson but its still a fact). If you figure in Haskins, Sweat and McLaurin will likely be starters this year or next, and if Quinn can get and hold the slot position, that's potentially 10 starters minimum from last 4 drafts.

We don't even know if we've found a diamond in the rough or two with our last draft, until we see what camp looks like. I wouldn't be surprised to see our last 5 picks getting significant playing time despite coming in rounds 5-7.

All in all, its too early to tell, but I think we've done pretty well from the last 4 drafts, and the last 3 particularly.

Having Scherff in the building to mentor him is HUGE. If Martin can just play as well as an average NFL LG our line should be solid, barring any injuries.

I'm trying to keep my expectations tempered, but the Redskins might surprise some people this year.

One of the best blocking TE in the League last year and overall in the past 10 years, just got released. Go get him now Bruce and cut VD. NOW

On paper the roster is stacked, let’s see the production. On another subject, the Eagles signed Zack Brown to an already stacked roster

Scherff is in the last year of his contract. We will see if they can resign him.

I don't see how Redskins will let him walk away

It's not too late to extend him, is it?

I don't either but you never know with this FO. I would love to see him get an extension in the next month or so and put this to bed before it becomes any sort of distraction.

He's proven his worth, lock him up.

Are they going to pay him more than Trent? ($14 million) How much can they afford? They will still be paying Alex Smith in 2020. They will need CB#1 . . TE#1. . . FS#1. I assume Norman and Reed will be cut.
