Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I haven't seen Thirteen yet but I did see Twelve and Eleven and even though I don't think Twelve is nearly as good as Eleven it still is a pretty good movie. I didn't understand it much the first time I saw it but every time I've seen it I understand it better and so it becomes better.

At this point, I'm convinced Will Ferrell will never be able to top Anchorman.
I thought he was good in Talladega Nights.. Anchorman I thought was just.. Odd. I think It's one of those movies you either love or hate. I think his best movie was Old School. |

Tbh, one of the worst scenes I've watched in a movie was watching him run around pretend he was on fire for like 10 minutes. I loved Anchorman though and I agree that Old School was probably one of his best movies, I loved that one. He was good in Blades of Glory as well, I thought that was a good movie. |

I can't help but ask... What's THE worst scene you've ever seen in a movie? |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I loved Will Ferrell on SNL but I've yet to see a movie of his that I really liked. He was good in Old School only because he didn't have a huge role, I guess I just like him in small doses.
I can't help but ask...
What's THE worst scene you've ever seen in a movie?
That's actually a hard question. Undoubtedly I've seen a lot of scenes where I didn't like at all, but I usually forget them once the movie is over lol. But that scene with Will Ferrell running around screaming and rolling on the ground "ahhhh I'm on fire" for 10 minutes straight and there's no fire to speak of, well that just stood out to me because I felt like it was one of the most immature scenes I've watched and it wasn't funny at all. I mean maybe if the scene was like 20 seconds long and he rolled around once or twice and then after that it stopped perhaps it wouldn't have been so bad, but the damn thing was wayyyyyyyyyyyy too damn long and it wasn't even remotely funny. Coming from me that's kinda big, because I'm immature to an extent and I like a lot of childish movies and things like that, movies that sophisticated society would look at and say, what childish rubble, or something. There's a lot of stuff that I can put up with. But god I hate that scene lol. I guess it would be good to say that that scene is probably the worst scene I've ever watched, since it's the only one I can remember at the moment for being so shitty. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Sigh.
I saw The Happening and I can't say I was anything but sorely disappointed. Not as disappointed as I was with The Strangers though. I'm practically as liberal as it gets, but I'm tired of Hollywood throwing hippy BS at me in their movies, especially when it's marketed as NOT having anything that could be construed as "preachy". M Night Shamalamabanarama I think has fallen completely into the deep end. The Sixth Sense - Great Signs - Another good one The Village - Not as good Lady in The Water - ??? The Happening - :madani: On a better note, I thought Marky Mark did a decent job of acting. I also liked that Zoey whoever chick who was played his wife. This had the potential to be SUCH a good movie being that it was R rated. But instead it was just a steaming pile. Talk about an anti-climatic ending. I thought M. Night was known for having all these crazy twists? But this wasn't a twist, it was just frustratingly weird. The best part of the movie was trying to figure out why people would just willingly kill themselves. As soon as we figured out found out why, I immediately stopped caring because I couldn't find that shit plausible. (Maybe it is?) Otherwise, I didn't really get anything out of this movie. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
What "happened" is I was duped into believing M. Night could actually resurrect himself after that steaming pile of Lady in the Water. And the clean sweep of the 2008 Razzies goes to... worst script, worst acting, worst premise, worst decision to green light said script, worst decision to let this guy keep working in movies. The only Razzie not received by this film goes to me... for actually seeing it.

yeah,I like her too, speaking of Will Ferrell, the first time I saw her was in Elf,and i just found out this morning her sister is the star of the fox show "Bones" |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
For all you horror lovers, check out this Spanish flick called [Rec]. It's handheld-style, set in one apartment complex. They've got an American remake called "Quarantine" coming out this summer, but I'm wagering it's gonna fall flat next to its predecessor. If you can get a copy of this, watch it in the dark with your headphones. This movie is ill!

yea, i agree 100% with everything you said. i think he was also very funny in the little parts he has played in such as zoolander, the wedding crashers and starsky and hutch. lets not forget a night at the roxbury, that movie is pretty funny. he was ok in kicking and screaming. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
anyone else going to see Dark Knight at midnight tomorrow/today? I've had my ticket for about a week now and cannot freaking wait. I just wish the imax nearby was playing it cuz that would be insane.

I couldn't cop IMAX tix until the Saturday showing... I had to get the tix almost two weeks ago! Damn 4th row too... This opening weekend is gonna blow record books wide open. I'm thinking close to 185 mill. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I've seen Ocean's Thirteen since the post at the top of the page, another excellent flick that I really liked.
I also saw Eastern Promises last week on Cinemax. I have to say, I was actually pretty disappointed with it. I thought the storyline was ok, but I feel like the ending absolutely sucked. It was like they were just going along with it and then decided they'd had enough, no ending necessary. |

Viggo's been kickin' ass in both of the flicks with this director. |

I thought Eastern Promises was a dud compared to the genius that was History of Violence. I hate it when foreign characters in films speak English in weird accents instead of their native language. One of my pet peeves. And I'm excited for Batman, but it's getting kind of a negative buzz from the critics. |

Hell, if a band I like comes to town and the show is during the week, it has to be a real favorite of mine for me to go. STP played just recently near me and the show was on Tuesday night... I didn't go. :( |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Batman as well, I like the look of it. Some day probably in the next week or so me and my friends are gonna go to the theater around 2, and try to watch The Dark Knight, Wanted (I think that's what its called, it's the movie with the curved bullet in the previews, Angelina Jolie is in it) and Hancock all in the same day.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Hancock was eh, in my opinion. The "twist" was weak, I thought. But Will Smith is pretty damn funny for the first 15 minutes.

Mongol was the ish! Dark Knight is getting serious Oscar buzz if you can believe it. Heath Ledger may get posthumous nominations. One critic put this movie up there with "Heat", "The Departed" and "Untouchables." |

The director is all visuals, imo... he tends to get way too caught up in Russian philosophy that it totally makes the story incoherent. He directed "Wanted" also. |

This makes Heath Ledgers untimely demise even more tragic as his performance as the Joker was astonishingly perfect with there being a few scenes that captured the characters chaotic state of mind and how easily he can switch from a jokester to a completely menacing sociopath. This movie gets one of the highest recommendations from myself and I cant wait to see it again this weekend. oh and as amazing as Heath Ledger was, I think Aaron Eckhart was a very, very close second with his performance as Harvey Dent. I cant say this enough, go see this movie especially if you want a movie with incredible acting, awesome action sequences, and multiple moments that will put you on the edge of your seat, the dark knight is your huckleberry. |

I completely agree. Heath Ledger gave an all time great performance in my opinion. Everything he did, from the way he talked to the way he moved was absolutely chilling. My eyes were as wide as they could get every time he was on the screen, because you never knew what was going to happen next when he was around. I really don't think the Oscar talk is fluff. He was as good as Javier Bardem (sp?) was in No Country For Old Men last year. The overall movie was great too. Like skinsfanthru&thru said: a lot of peole might complain that it dragged on a bit too much at the end, which I can understand; but I don't think that took away from the movie. The story was much more realistic than any superhero movie I've ever seen (take that for what it's worth), and the acting was top notch. The opening scene had half the theater clapping for a good 2 minutes. What I loved about the special effects is that I hardly noticed them, unlike the new Indiana Jones movie. My only complaint is that I went to a midnight showing, got to bed around 3:30 and had to wake up at 7 for work. Now I'm so hopped up on a huge Starbucks frozen coffee that I feel like my heart is going to explode. Other than that, I seriously want to go see this movie again tonight. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I agree, I went to see it last night, and I highly recommend everyone go see Batman if you get a chance. Ledger pulled off an amazingly creepy joker (And I think he deserves all the Oscar buzz), and it's not just a great movie based on a comic book, it's just a great movie.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I am honestly struggling to explain how good Dark Knight was. That's no exageration. Ledger's performance is every bit as good as the buzz...even better. The only neg for the movie was that Ledger was so good that his character dominated the movie and sorta pushed Bale's Batman aside. I loved Batman Begins and I loved this one as much. Honestly this is the best movie and sequel since the Godfather I/II.
SPOiLER SORTA-> The setup for the future is awesome but unfotunately we'll never get anymore Joker/Batman setups. I can't see them ever getting someone else to play this Joker in the future. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Ok this is how good the movie is.
Everyone knows what it feels like when your super stoked to see a big game and when it finally gets here sometimes its as good as you thought and sometimes its not. Well on a rare occasion it's actually better. It's historic. It's seminal. Well this movie is that. I felt like just sitting there in the theatre because I didn't want it to be over. I left feeling like I had just seen something that I can tell my kids someday that I saw on opening day and they'll be in awe. This movie was everything that the new Star Wars movie hype didn't live up to and outshines the efforts of Lord of the Rings by a good country mile. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I'm going to see it today - can't wait!

Ledger and Eckhart just stole the screen throughout the movie, especially towards the end. And I thought Gary Oldman was also a force throughout. I seriously want to see it again this weekend. Heath Ledger's performance has to go down with Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs and Javier Bardem in NCFOM. |

Just got back from seeing the Dark Knight, finally a summer blockbuster that lives up to the hype and then some! Great movie... I loved it.

Ledger lived up to every bit of the hype. In the back of your mind you know that Ledger's untimely death makes his character all the more sinister.

I kinda felt sad watching Ledger just knowing we'll never get to see how much more he could have done in film. He was really great.
