Not sure if anyone has mentioned him in this thread, but I wouldn't mind scooping up Green Bay's FB John Kuhn. He was a beast for the Pack last year and he's a FA. Certainly an upgrade from a converted Darrel Young or a 36 year old Sellers.
Yeah he was. Forgot all about that guy, but he's good. |
I think at this point the only big time signings would be Rex (although I'm curious what is taking so long) and a RT. I wouldn't mind us picking up Nate Clements if he is not too expensive.

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3
Does anyone have an idea of what kind salary cap space we're looking at right now? I know we don't have to meet the floor until Dec. or so anyways so it's not like we have to spend money right now, but I'm just wondering.
|
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3
I wonder if we r looking at any other QB? Maybe that's y Rex isn't in camp
|
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3
Thats what's I have been sayings the whole time, there is a reason y he isnt in camp , its not because of him not being able to get on the field , he could watch films and prep, was he at the players practices??? (rex im talking about )

I think we've passed the cash spend floor. Anybody know if we're planning on doing anything else? Smoot? I'm surprised we don't have RT resolved by now. |

^Those vets can't start participating in team activities until August 4th (signed or not) so, likely they won't sign until just before they report to camp.

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3
Any news on FA atlanta OG Justin Blalock? He might be a good signing and a position of need at left guard. We'd have a massively overhauled O-line if we sign him and Ryan Harris.
Hooskins, what's your scouting report on Marc Verica?
Not so fly. Takes very long to read defenses and forces some bad throws. Good with the short to intermediate routes, especially to the TEs. To be fair, he had very few threats to throw to during his time at UVa. Is he on our radar? Sorry but im way outta the loop. Just got back from a 2 week vacation in europe. I see that hanyesworth and mcnabb are gone. |
hooskins likely can give you a better scouting report. But as a follower of the Cavs, I can say that I am surprised that we, or anyone, picked up Verica. His arm is not bad but his accuracy and decision making are not the best.
This. I had very little confidence when I saw him walking up to the huddle. Did not even think he would be practice squad material. But is was, as I mentioned, put in a tough situation. Mainly a run first offense at uva when he was playing. Combined with limited receiving options make it tough for any QB. With all that being said, I would be shocked if he remains on the practice squad for a long pd of time. |

I dont think our QB position (positions) are solidified. I'd not be surprised to hear about a significant change before the season starts.

Seriously Orton would fit KS offense so well... And we'd have a solid QB for 3-4 years

Can we seriously just stop playing for now? I want to build toward the future and orton seems like a win now, one player away type trade. I'd pass, save draft picks, draft a top rookie qb, and build toward the future. |

He's only 28 man, He could play for 5-6 more years at a high level |

Call me crazy, but I'd like to get a 22 year old, indoctrinate him into our system, and win for 10 years instead of being mediocre for 5-6. Orton isn't as stellar as you make him seem. His stats are inflated because the broncos were always behind and had to use their air attack to catch up. Please redskins fans stop with the old win now, superbowl or bust mindset for the next two years! |
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3
I'm all for rebuilding but I don't want to win 4 games and get MS fired either
|
You actually want us to give up 1st or 2nd round pick(s) for Orton? Shanahan said he's betting his reputation on Beck and Rexy - it says it all for me.

I don't think even Dan Snyder would be willing to give Mike Shanahan $21mil to work for some other team next year. They are tied together at the hip for the foreseeable future. |

He's in our camp now. But Shanny said in an interview that he was worried about Beck and Chappell throwing themselves sore. So I think that Verica is just a human throwing machine and will get a ticket home as soon as Rex and Kellen arrive. |

We could pay the bonus. |

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3
Orton is proven QB compared to Kolb, and Cardinals had to give up a starting CB and 2nd round pick for Kolb.. I find it hard to believe that Denver would not want something similar, or at least kinda close to this kind of deal. Beside a reporter (I believe Schefter) from Sportscenter said that Miami believed that Orton is worth 3 to 5th round pick, while Denver wanted more. That is the reason why the trade between those two teams haven't happened.. yet.
Skinsfan, read careful next time - I said 1st OR 2nd pick, not and. |
Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agents Rumors and Reports-Part 3
Beside do you really think Orton will play better than Rexy or even Beck at this point? Orton would have to cram the playbook in VERY limited time if he comes here, which I do not think it will turn out well. However if we had whole off-season, then I would not be against this.

1. Denver seems pretty desperate to get rid of him and if no one is willing to trade for him for what Denver wants (especially if most of the higher potential trading places have gotten someone else) his price might come down. It's all supply and demand. 2. I am not saying that if Orton came here he would be the day one starter. I know he would be behind the curve learning the playbook compared to Rex and Beck. And if there is a competition in camp and he doesn't start at the beginning of the season so be it. But at least you would have a competent QB who you know how has a record of good numbers. And when Rex has a breakdown game and throws 5 INT, and you don't know how Beck will respond because he doesn't have a lot of game experience, maybe by that time Orton will have a good grasp of the playbook and he will step in nicely. The system he runs in Denver isn't that different, there are similarities. That is all I'm saying. |
