Re: Looking at the draft.
Another guy that is under the radar and a good CB is
QUENTON MEEKS, CB, STANFORD The big thing a team will get with Meeks is a very high football IQ. His father was an NFL defensive coach for over 20 years and has no doubt taught Meeks a thing or two. He also has ideal size for a NFL cornerback at 6-foot-1, 209-pounds with 31 3/4-inch arms. At the combine, Meeks showed explosive athleticism with jumps of 39-inches in the vertical and a 10-foot-8-inch broad jump. He then ran a 4.49 40-yard dash at his pro day. Meeks improved his overall grade (84.4 in 2017) and coverage grade (83.9 in 2017) each year at Stanford and he spent most of his time playing outside corner and that is where he fits in the NFL. Meeks’ consistent development along with his size and intelligence will make him attractive to teams during the draft. This would be a nice 4th round addition if he is there
The guy from Stanford I want is their Tight End, Dalton Schultz. Under the radar guy who may be the best blocking TE in the draft...mid round guy. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/dalton-schultz?id=32462018-0002-5601-11b0-43f775014814 |

Re: Looking at the draft.
Drafttek has us taking Denzel Ward. I'd take him. Also, interesting tidbit/confirmation about aiming for compensatory picks next year and a nice dig at Allen:
The Redskins continued with their generally quiet Free Agency strategy, making small signings of Pernell McPhee and Orlando Scandrick. Bruce Allen admitted at the owner's meetings that the team planned on signing players that were cut in order to receive compensation picks next year. So, for those of you calling for Brucey's head, sound like he's confident he's going to be around a while (UGH)! Regardless of the recent signings or my qualms with the front office, the Redskins will likely take BPA on defense in the First Round. The team sits in a nice spot at 13, as four quarterbacks will likely come off the board before them, pushing top-ten talent down to them. If one of the quarterbacks is still around, or if a team like the Steelers or Saints want to develop the fifth QB taken, the Redskins could be looking at quite a haul of picks in a trade-down scenario with a QB-needy team. Here, the Redskins stay put and land the top CB in the draft in*tantalizing prospect*Denzel Ward. Ward isn't the biggest corner, and his weight (just 183) may scare some teams, but he has good length and instincts on the outside. If the Redskins are worried about his lack of bulk, they can move him into the slot as a rookie to avoid some of the contact he would be taking in the run game. With Ohio State corners having great success transitioning to the NFL since Urban Meyer took over in Columbus (all 5 CBs drafted since his arrival are currently NFL starters), Denzel Ward could be a replacement-plus for what the team lost in Kendall Fuller earlier this offseason.*
On the bolded part, most teams are realizing that this is a sound strategy. And the Ravens in particular have been widely praised for it. |

Lamar jackson opted against the 40.. I wonder if that is a statement to folks that think he's just an athlete not a real QB...

I’ve been thinking about this lately, Payne in the first, Sony Michel in the 2nd. Thoughts?

Rather have Hurst in rd 1 but either way i hope for a trade down. Michel in the 2nd would be a good pick |
I’ve been thinking about this lately, Payne in the first, Sony Michel in the 2nd. Thoughts?
I love Michel. He and Guice are the two RB options I like the best (unless Barkley falls), so hell yeah I'd be happy with that.
Payne, I'd be happy with the pick, but if Vea is there I think he compliments this unit better. This also depends on whether or not Hankins or Logan sign with the Skins. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

I'd be ecstatic. Trenches are where games are won and lost. But we also have a huge talent void at RB. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
I like Payne because he can get bigger, he hasn't maxed out his frame yet.

I’d rather have Jones from USC...but Michel is good. I think neither there at our pick in the second. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Payne or Vea in the 1st and either Jones, Michel, or Penny in the 2nd. If there isn't a trade down this should be the most likely plausible scenario inside Redskins Park too.

Re: Looking at the draft.
We need an elite guard or a menace to go along w/ Allen. I would never ever draft RB's in the 1st 2 rounds. I would treat backs just like the Patriots do. Never pay them big money cause they're interchangeable for the most part. Payne would be good but I would pass on Michel in the 2nd.

Hmmm...interesting breakdown of Isaiah Oliver, a CB I haven't heard a lot of hype about. Would be an interesting pick if he falls somewhere we can get him line the 4th maybe? Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

If we had s 3rd rounder, I'd say RB or LG in the 2nd and the other position in the 3rd. But I think its easier to find a starting guard than starting back 4th round or later. I want a stud RB. I miss Portis. |

I'm generally very much a proponent of don't need to draft a RB early, but it's clearly a big need and we keep whiffing on mid round backs. Maybe it's reactionary, but there are just so many really talented guys in the early rounds this year that it would feel disappointing to Get a guy with a limited ceiling in the 4th. The ideal scenario is a trade back that allows us to get both in the 2nd-3rd but barring that I trend to agree with you.
Ultimately though it's going to come down to how the board plays out on draft day. If there's an early run on RBs we may miss out on the top tier guys in the 2nd and it would make sense to wait until the 4th if you have a big cluster of guys around the same talent on the board, and the same thing goes for Guard. Just gotta hope that both positions don't have an early run. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Yeah need to find a RB. Have not had a franchise RB albeit briefly that of Alfred Morris.

Clinton Portis was drafted in the second round. Not exactly top half of the first round. Not exactly franchise player consideration before or during 2002 draft. We need a killer guard before a top RB. Fix the lines first. |

Ultimately, the board controls all. All my ideas are based on a perfect world where BPA matches our highest needs.
But if Nelson or Chubb or James or Ward or Edwards falls to 13 I'll gladly take them. |

Re: Looking at the draft.
Team assessment and draft strategy:
Offense: Jay's runs one of the best passing schemes in the NFL. It easier for Jay to scheme it up with quality receivers and imho no player is more impactful to an offense then a true #1 WR. Target: Outside WR (X or Z) QB is the most important player on the team. This organization has already suffered because of lack of planning and foresight at both the starter position and the developmental and back-up positions. Joe used to say that the 2 most important positions on the team are the starting QB and the back-up QB. Targets: developmental QB Need to improve the run game. I think the OL injuries were more of an issue then the runners. I don't think Jay's scheme will ever truly maximize a RB and therefore I don't think its worth it to draft a RB in the 1st round especially for Jay's scheme. Target: OL (interior) |

REMEMBER...the folks making the obvious reach will be for the QBs Rosen, Jackson, Allen and Mayfield...which will push talent back to everyone in the teens. These are reaches...
That is exactly right. This year several QB starved teams will reach in the top 10 for Qb. The real talent will drop to us like last year. Just fix our O-line and Defense and call it a day. LeGarrette Blount Undrafted Free Agent and Jay Ajai 5th round pick combined for 150 yards rushing in the Super Bowl and averaged 6.3 yards a carry. Because the O-line in front of them kicked ass. The Eagles were on their second string left tackle and 2nd string QB. When you have a physical offensive line and defense you do not need top of the draft QB's, WR's or RB's. The Patriots do the same thing, Brady was like a 6th round pick. |

The three names I’d watch early in the draft: Saquon Barkley, Derrius Guice and Nick Chubb. Yes, I’m well aware that Barkley should be long gone by No. 13, but if you’re asking who they like he’s at the top. He’s just unrealistic. Others who run with some power: Michel (and he also might be better in the pass game, but I’m not convinced the Redskins like him better than Chubb); Kerryon Johnson (again, can help in the run or pass game, but still not sold on their level of interest). Rashaad Penny is another one to watch later. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
Defense:
We play a 34 base but can't stop the run. Targets: NT, 34 DE In the secondary we lost Breeland and Fuller a starting CB and a starting Slot. Big holes there. Still need another S. Targets: CB, NB |

CB, NB NT, 34 DE Outside WR (X or Z) Interior OL Developmental QB |

(I think they should too, without reaching) Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
I think it will be a mistake. This organization needs to always be in the process of developing QB (especially considering the rate we screw them up). I believe in the Ron Wolf philosophy: a franchise should draft a QB somewhere in every draft. QB is the most important position on the team and you never know which ones will pan out. You can't hit on Kirk Cousins (and subsequently screw it up) unless you draft him first. |
Re: Looking at the draft.
I'm a bit confused by what you are saying in your post.
I do not think they can afford to draft both a CB and a NB, just one or the other. I would like to see (not in this particular order) G,NT, RB, C, TE, CB, S, QB |
Re: Looking at the draft.
IF he is still there at 4, and IF they would take it, would you trade our first rounder this year and our first next year to the Brown's for the chance to get Barkley?
I realize there are so many reasons this will not happen, I am just curious what other people think they would do if it were a possibility. |
