Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
A potentially significant development for the #Redskins: Franchise LT Trent Williams & new coach Ron Rivera have touched base for what sounded like a positive conversation, I’m told. The next step would be for Williams to come in to visit, but the two sides are now communicating.
Rapsheet
That was what was needed to get the process rolling. I really doubt it will take long for the two sides to make a mutual decision as to if TW stays or goes. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
He's staying, the skins won't move him and he knows he has to play. He'll be fresh at least

Yep I think that's exactly what will happen too, unless a team comes in with an offer that Redskins cannot refuse. |
Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Rivera and Williams have made the next important step: they had their first telephone call. This is very good and they’re both moving forward. The next step is for Trent to come visit Rivera in Asburn. All this is good news. The key point of contention is whether the team will pay Trent the money he wants, especially for guaranteed money. I think they will and if TW is healthy, he’ll be playing for us this season.
I really think this is going to happen! Next is Scherff and Flowers. Oh yeah, and we need to resign Dunbar. He’s our best CB. By dumping Norman we can get the money we need for this new contract - which also is about guaranteed money in case he is injured. I’m SO GLAD these issues aren’t being handled by Bruce Allen. With him gone we actually have a chance of keeping our best veterans. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
The time to have moved Trent was last season before the trading deadline to a contender that needed a left tackle. Now teams that still have that need are going to look toward the draft for someone they can have on a rookie deal. Considering his age and cap number the trade value for Trent is probably pretty low right now.

Right. If Bruce knew what he was doing we could have received a first rounder and definitely more from the Texans for Trent. But he blew it, as usual. Now Trent is worth a second or maybe lower. Far better to resign him with the guaranteed money he wants and he’ll do well for 2-3 years. Starting this year they draft for one OT, plus a couple in the UDFA. If they can’t get a good OT project, then they draft higher in the 2021 offseason. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Passively listening to Sheehan's show this morning and Im not sure if I heard him right but I think I heard him say its been rumored/reported that Trent wants to be paid top dollar LT money. He then cited to Lewan's 18M and another guy in the 15M range.
Anyone hear anything about this? |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I'm just curious. Why are people so damn obsessed with Trent Williams? What have we won with the guy? Idk, I just don't get it. I don't want him back at all. Get the draft pick or two and get a younger cheaper guy in there who will stay healthy and is going to be part of the future.
It's a new era and I really don't want an old disgruntled injury prone player who's on the downside. Enough of that shit. Move the fuck on and act like a real organization. Kind of baffled as to why RR is even reaching out to the guy. He should be working the phones and getting the best deal. So glad Greg Olsen signed with Seattle. Didn't want the guy. He'll be hurt by week 5. Why would you even call him in the first place? He can't be counted on! Also, call the Ravens and see if they still want Kerrigan. I'm cleaning house. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
we need to go on record for Trent Williams:
I’ll go first: absolutely no way do I support a massive extension for Trent Williams where he is the highest paid left tackle in the game at his age and recent injury history |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Not really Williams related, but the skins can only reasonably pay so many O-linemen big bucks. Right now, we have 3 O-line positions up in the air with Williams and Scherff both commanding top dollar and Flowers playing well enough in one year at guard to demand a respectable contract. We cant resign all 3. And with as many holes as we have on the roster, I don't really think it makes to pay Williams and Scherff the kind of money they want. Doing so would certainly mean going cheap at LG, which is less than ideal.
This writer thinks its possible we could resign Flowers and very good right guard for about the same money as just resigning Scherff. Taking such an approach would allow us to pay Trent, if that's what Rivera wants to do. Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Must admit I was thinking we should go after Thuney if we can't (reasonably) re-sign Scherff. They will want similar money but I'd say Scherff will be more expensive given his age.

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Looks like the Browns will need a left tackle. From ESPN:
NFL offensive tackle Greg Robinson was being held Wednesday in a Texas jail on a pending drug distribution charge, records show. Robinson, 27, a former Auburn standout who played for the Cleveland Browns last season, was booked by the Drug Enforcement Administration on Tuesday after federal agents said they found 157 pounds of marijuana in a rented vehicle in which he and two other people were riding. I doubt he can claim the 157# was for personal use. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
The situation was messy and personal, but Williams also pointed out he wants more guaranteed money in his contract. For 2020, his deal contains no guarantees, and perhaps that's the only hurdle remaining for Williams' return to Washington.
https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/report-trent-williams-will-return-redskins-because-ron-rivera First preference was to trade him for a 1R or even a 2R plus Second preference was for him to sign a reasonable 3 year deal and stay Third would be to guarantee his 2020 then he walks into FA in 2021 (assuming 2019 was an accrued year) |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
At this point you have to re-sign him to an extension or trade him. Can't let him play out his deal and walk for nothing next year.
|
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network explained in his podcast that "the belief is Trent Williams is likely to return to Washington since they've cleaned house. A source told me outright Williams will return to Washington because of Ron Rivera."
https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/report-trent-williams-will-return-redskins-because-ron-rivera Has any local guys confirmed this? JP Finlay isnt confirming it but just reporting what Tony Pauline said on his podcast. Who is Tony Pauline? Trents been gone from the local scene for a while so its 100% possible a national non-local person would get the scoop first since this came from someone close to Trent and not from the team. I cant find any other local or non-local corroboration. edit -- Wasnt Trents twitter profile picture of him in a Sooners uni and now hes in a skins uni?
At this point you have to re-sign him to an extension or trade him. Can't let him play out his deal and walk for nothing next year.
I think it's likely Rivera does right by him. I don't think he'll trade him, I think he'll extend him. And if he doesn't extend him, he can always franchise him next year, though whether or not that qualifies as doing right by him is a matter of perspective. Trent might honestly prefer that anyway at this point. This new CBA is about to add a whole shitload of money to the cap and player salaries. Trent may not want an extension right now. If I were him I'd be fine playing out this season, finding out what next year's CBA looks like, and negotiating accordingly. He might be able to get a deal that looks like 17 games worth and a bigger % of the revenue pie. Hell, Ron could jump on it now and make him the highest paid LT in the game for the next three years, and by this time next year some other dipshit LT will get paid way more because the new CBA will affect the negotiating. Either way this is a great thing. Trent returns and he says it's because of Ron. The locker room galvanizes and welcomes him back. The offensive line gets instantly meaner. Trent could be extended prior to the season starting to take advantage of lower prices in comparison to what the new CBA deal will look like. It's great all around. I don't see Rivera trading Trent, I see him extending him. He knows he needs cultural wins, he deeply understands how the locker room perceives things, and he knows how far this would go towards that. |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
And accordingly, because of how galvanizing this will be to the players in the locker room, I'm by extension ready to run through a fucking wall. Let's GOOOO! HTTR!

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I think the Redskins will resign Trent Williams with the guaranteed money he wants. I don’t understand all the ppl who diss Trent. He was the best player on the team, a team captain and an elite OT for years on a crappy team. He’s played hurt and gave his all for the team.
He’ll get his contract with the guaranteed money he wants and he’ll play at a very good level for a couple years- until he’s replaced. I’d be very surprised if he DOESN’T resign with the Redskins. He’ll be part of a rebuilt OL. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was talking about fans who turned on Trent because he dared ask for more guaranteed money . He also had real concerns about his medical treatment, etc. Whatever the fans thought about all the issues that Trent brought up, it wasn’t just about money in his own mind. Other premium players asked to be traded last year and ALL were traded. Only a nimrod like Bruce Allen would try to FORCE Trent to play. The team could have received a first rounder and MUCH MORE from Houston, but Bruce refused to even talk to them then. So, here we are. We might get a second rounder for Trent now. He’s worth a lot more to us than that. That’s why he will be resigned and last year’s crap will be forgotten. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
My "dissing" was for two reasons. He sat out and did not honor his contract. He also played the "race card." Accusing BA of racism. Screw him, trade him for what you can get.

Everyone makes mistakes. Trent Williams made some in this last year’s controversy. But on the other side, Bruce Allen was a major tool who was hated by players and agents. There were also issues with the medical staff for the Redskins. We had the most injured players in the NFL for two years in a row. For years, Trent was the best player in this team, when it was a bad franchise. He was a multiple Pro Bowler, a team captain and someone who played hurt, for the team. There is no rule that says a player can’t ask for a change to his contract. Last year a few top end players asked to be traded or to have their contract changed. The team can do several things when a player asks for a change in their contract or to be traded: 1. Trade him and move on. All the elite players on other teams, that asked for a new contract or to be traded ( last year) were traded - except one. 2. Ignore him. That’s what Bruce Allen did. He thought when Trent stopped getting paid he would come crawling back. However, this WASN’T just about more money. TW was upset about the medical care (whether true or not). He also became upset because Bruce Allen wouldn’t talk about a trade or a new contract. Bruce ignored other teams that wanted to trade for Trent. From the outside, it certainly appeared the Bruce was trying to PUNISH Williams to get him to come back. For one of the best players on the team, you can’t even have a conversation about guaranteed money or a trade? Technically, the Redskins had a contract with TW. But you can’t even try to work together on a mutually beneficial future? So nothing happened. No trade was made because Bruce wouldn’t talk to any other team NOR Trent Williams. Trent didn’t play nor get any pay. Trent took his case to the press. Bruce Allen was fired and he is now considered by Redskin’s fans and across the NFL as a really horrible GM. The medical staff has been changed. It appears that Trent will come back. Time to forget the mistakes and vitriol of last year and support Trent’s return to the OL. I don't think he should play without guaranteed $. But I'm not for making him the highest paid tackle either. If that's what he wants, send him on his way with his buddy Dunbar.

+1 I'm up for reworking his contract, guaranteeing a little more money for the next two years. But after 2 years give us a clean out without tying up the cap too much. |

Re: Trent Williams ends season-long holdout, rejoins Redskins
I have a gut feeling that RR will not let this stalemate drag on much longer because it's in the way of setting a new, positive tone for the team. Go or stay, I'm OK either way. Just get it done quickly and move forward.

After he declined that Dr’s. Look at his medical records and investigate what happened, you knew he was full of shit. Trade his ass along with Dunbar!!
