Obligatory post-game "Walt Harris scares me" thread

:frusty:

He can't tackle - he empty handed Cadillac in the backfield and let him get an extra 5 yards. He can't really cover - Galloway burned him for Simms' longest pass of the game.

Furthermore, why does GW think this guy can play? I know we are depleted, but what the hell is he doing lining Harris up on Galloway in man coverage?

Re: Obligatory post-game "Walt Harris scares me" thread

Add Antonio Brown to the "He scares me" list. Great rags to glory story for Antonio, but the guy was cut for a reason. We ought to take him out of punts and leave him solely as a kickoff returner.

Harris' inadequacies are well documented - you can't expect him to flourish in any role besides nickel corner. However, the guy is good on special teams and seems to have a knack for falling on the ball, recovering fumbles or blocking kicks. Sean Taylor's play-making abilities were able to make up for the loss of Springs. However, that bonehead really hurt the team by being thrown out of the game. Inexcusable. Again, just mighty relieved to come away with the WIN!

I would also like to add Frost.

14 god damn yards?

Let's not forget about that great tackle he had, probably saved a score!

These guys had some bad plays, but you know what? They played good enough for us to win today.

Good defense of Frost on the TD saving tackle Mattyk72. I agree. Tough guy for a punter.

Exactly.

Super Bowl winning teams make mistakes too, but in the end all that matters is winning.

To be fair Harris had fallen down when he blew the tackle on Cadillac. It is hard enough for CBs to tackle to begin with. Once they fall down we can't expect them to contribute much.

Hey, Galloway didn't burn us -- and that was without Shawn Springs.

We're so thin in the secondary, I'm not bad-mouthing Walt Harris at all this week.

Didn't Springs say he should be ready for Seattle?

Springs might be back and hopefully ST can keep his spit in his mouth.

frost is the fastest punter ever :P

I think we should seriously consider lining A brown up at CB, since he's ungodly fast and his hands are that bad....

Re: Obligatory post-game "Walt Harris scares me" thread

I thought Walt Harris played pretty well, and there was nothing he could do against the long joey galloway pass... it was man to man and he has to respect the deep ball and he went inside.

Re: Obligatory post-game "Walt Harris scares me" thread

I was supporting AB last week, but now I can not believe he fumbled yet again, use AB as reciever and use trash and betts for returns, simple as that. Frost made an awesome tackle, and with the exception of the 14 yard kick, he punted pretty well. Of course if we had lost, then everyone would be yelling at Frost.

I dont mind if Brown is our guy for kickoff returns, I actually think hes a very good asset there. However on punts, he scares the crap out of me.

AB scares the hell out of me on punts.

I know he's got the big play potential, but at this time of the year I'd prefer to see a safer bet back there like Thrash.

Why don't we put Jimmy Farris on punt returns?

I agree 100% AB is 50/50 back there. Put thrash back there or Moss if were in position to get a big return.

Re: Obligatory post-game "Walt Harris scares me" thread

I'd rather go with Betts on punt returns. Like most of you A.B. just scares me on punt returns. He doesn't know when to call fair catch. But on kickoff returns the guy is definitely an asset.

cannot risk moss to return punts
better thrash or betts

I've been thinking that too. But then I think of Darrell Green's punt return in the playoffs against the Bears.

Let's put Thrash back there to catch the ball, then he can hand it to AB to run.

Yeah, I'm sick and tired of people complaining about Harris. He's still a decent nickleback, and we can't help missing Springs.

I'd say under the circumstances our secondary and Harris did a pretty good job.

Re: Obligatory post-game "Walt Harris scares me" thread

No question that our defense won the game, and no question that our secondary is thin. That doesn' change the fact that Harris scares me when he is in there. Even a nickle back needs to be able to tackle. I'm glad Springs is back - I think Hassleback & Co. are in for a nasty surprise on Sunday!

harris played well enough for the skins to win.frost actually kicked well(minus the 14 yarder)on saturday.a brown should be used on kickoffs only.i was really against moss back on punt returns but after watching s smith return punts for carolina,we are getting to the nitty gritty, why not moss?

skindogger47 01-09-2006 10:02 AM

Re: Obligatory post-game "Walt Harris scares me" thread

Walt Harris is a servicable nickle back, and there is nothing wrong about saying he scares you. When he is starting, we are put in some precarious positions. Rogers and Springs starting and Harris at nickle is great. It's when you have Rogers and Harris starting and Jimoh at nickle when you should be scared. Hopefully this week will be the former.

As for Antonio Brown, get that guy the **** off my football team. He is no Redskin. He is an idiot. I believe we have a guy named SANTANA MOSS who touched the ball fewer times on Sunday than Brown did, and has 1 more postseason punt return for a touchdown than does Brown. Cut Brown, sign a D lineman off the practice squad, and let one of the ****ing best punt returners in football do his thing.

Thrash has a broken thumb. That's not saying that he still won't have better hands than "Butterfingers McBrown", but he's probably not the safest pick to return punts either.

I say f*ck it - put Moss back there! It's the g-damn playoffs. If not, maybe farris or betts is an option B. Or maybe THE ADE - now we're talking!

So that's not smart football in your book?

I thought you might be talking about his fumbling or the way he doesn't fair catch it when he should, etc.

But if you're just talking about blowing kisses on a return for a TD, c'mon who cares?

I CARE!

Blowing kisses is what you expect to see at a figure skating championship.

Do something more manly at least, like:

1) Slappin' that ass
2) Suck it, mah beeatch

You can only say that in hindsight because he was owned two times in a row back to back. Fortunately one pass was a dropped TD, and the other was overthrown in the end zone. If either had been caught, this thread would've been a "cut Walt Harris" thread.

Re: Obligatory post-game "Walt Harris scares me" thread

Get off Brown's rear end. Running back punts is one of the toughest jobs in football. He can and has made big plays. The guy bobbles a punt and you are ready to kick him off the team. If you going to kick a guy off the team for one mistake, lets kick Brunnel off the team for throwing that fourth quarter pass interception, lets kick Frost off the team for a 14 yard punt, better yet, lets kick Hall off the team for not being able to place his kickoffs deep.

All good points...except it's not the first time, or even the second or third, that Brown has bobbled a punt.

Re: Obligatory post-game "Walt Harris scares me" thread

Fact remains: He will break one sooner rather than later. Seattle has suspect coverage units on special teams. If he takes one to the house against the seagulls, no one will be calling for Antonio's head anymore. I sure hope someone is working on coaching Brown up on the little things (such as fair catching).

Of course I'm saying it in hindsight, how else can someone review a game...

Meanwhile you're talking in hypotheticals, what use is that? If this, if that, but the end result is all that matters, and in this case the end result was a win.

Except, this thread isn't reviewing the game. We're reviewing the play, or lack thereof by one Walt Harris. Using the end result of the game to forgive woefully inadequate coverage skills during key moments before the game has ended isn't exactly balanced.
