Taylor Fined $17,000

I was just reading on Fox that Taylor was fined $17,000 the article did not say anything about him being suspended. That is what he was paid for wild card game.

I was expecting much more than $17k. Atleast it's tax deductible.

Re: Taylor Fined $17,000

During one of the previous Redskins' playoff runs - I think it was '91, but don't quote me on that - one of the OL (Tre Johnson I think) got tossed from a game for "improper contact with an official". That's a whole lot worse than a player spitting on another player!

The OL was suspended from the first game of the next season and not from the next playoff game.

Taylor was never in any real jorpardy of being suspended this weekend for what happened on the field last Saturday - - unless he compounded the matter with some kind of boneheadedness after the game. Fortunately, he did not; he will play.

Not according to some. Apparently spitting on someone is worse than trying to kill them. At least some see to think that.

Wouldn't that be meatheadedness?

You know, I really want to believe this kid that he didn't spit in Pittman's face. It's conceivable that he was "lathered up" in the moment and what came next was unintentional -- maybe, possibly. He would have to be incredibly 'stoopid' to haul off and spit at the guy in front of the ref -- and his judgement is in question.:confused-

But, I want to believe in the guy.

not life or death.
But, say that in the summer,
for winter brings the playoffs
and a season is at stake."

How much has Taylor wasted on fines this year? I wish I had that much extra money just laying around!

Even for hitting an official (albeit inadvertently), Johnson's suspension was for opening game of the next season; he was allowed to play in the Tampa Divisional playoff game the following week. This was in '99.

i thought it would like a 25,000 fine.
chunk change to today,s player.
i,m just glad he,s going to be apart of this team in seattle on saturday.

i still feel like he did nothing compared to pittman.

Taylor is now a punch line. "he is gonna pull a taylor on you" "Oh no here comes a taylor fan cover your face or he will spit on you"

Taylor is stupid. He has ruined his name for a good while. WHo would vote him into the pro bowl if he just acts like a bitch.

10,000?? PTI Just mentioned and I think this is a great point....Porits was fined TWENTY GRAND for wearing the wrong freaking socks, and Taylor is only fined 17G's for this?!?!?! Thats insane.

Re: Taylor Fined $17,000

Exactly. Goes back to my point (posted somewhere else in another thread not too far away) that sportsmanship has always taken a back seat in professional football and always will. These guys, whether they are coaches, players, equipment managers, etc. are paid to win football games... period.

Re: Taylor Fined $17,000

Anyone else worried that the relatively low fine is just a precursor to a suspension? Or is that completely ruled out and confirmed not to happen? I read that Gene Upshaw had said it's unlikely but are we for sure on that now?

Guys, this happens in every football game. Much worse happens at the bottom of a pile after a fumble. The players, refs, and league know this. What pisses off the refs is when you do it right in front of them. Saturday Taylor learned a lesson the hard way. The good news is that he is learning.

I agree with the fine and him getting kicked out of the game if he did really spit. I've rewound the TIVO a few time and can't see where it happened. Don't you have to throw your head forward a little if you expect to hit someone with your spit? The guy really might just have rabies or something.

Typically yes. Otherwise you dribble on your chin or hit your own shoe. I could've seen that call too- "Unsportsmanlike Conduct #21 defense, dribbling in the direction of an opponent, 15 yds and game ejection". Seriously though, either the post-bitchsmack spit or the spray it when ya say it theories seem to work best for me. Either way Taylor plays next Saturday and the Seattle offense will be equipped with clear plastic face guards. :laughing2

I'm a relatively new poster on these boards so please forgive if my opinion is too wordy. Spitting in someone's face even in the heat of battle is disgraceful conduct. I think the fine should have been more severe (25k-30K) but definitely not a suspension. Michael Pittman is no saint and probably said something that warranted a quick rebuff but nothing he said could have been any vindication to have someone spit in his face. I hate liking Sean Taylor but it's hard not to. During the course of a game I scan the screen for #21. There's not too many players in the entire NFL that I want to know what they did on every play. He is a mega-superstar and if he could play for the Redskins for the next ten years I know we will be perenial playoff contenders but, brother, he has got to take some control over his actions.

People, for the last time. The only reason Taylor spit was because he couldn't drop trow and take a leak on Pittman.

We're talking about a guy who tried to run over his wife in his car, for crying out loud. It's not like he spit on Marvin Harrison or something.

I "THINK" Sean Taylor said something to [s]pittman.

I saw no spit and ref looking not at ST,. Did he hear something?

Either way...ST was tossed and paid.

If you don't like the fact that ST did something 'disgraceful' perhaps you should have an interest in a different sport, like chess or polo or cricket, maybe chinese checkers. For crying out loud, the co-comeback player of the year Teddy Bruschi has been accused of grabbing a guy's nuts trying to recover a fumble. 'Win at any cost' attitudes are prevalent in a game where hundreds of thousands of dollars are on the line. The NFL is more of a business than a sport. You want sportsmanship watch pee wee games.

The good thing is that the Pro Bowl is a big popularity contest, so as long as Taylor doesn't pull a gun or spit on a few million voters, he should be fine.

i love the skins, but i ain't afraid to say it. Sean Taylor is a piece of s**t. You can add a (hi) or (pi) in there, but either way he ain't my favorite player. Like i said before, i put him in the same category as marcus vick. We've won with him and we've won games without him. If Tampa would of scored on that drive, everyone would be calling for his head. I don't give a crap what pittman does or did, he doesn't play on the team i root for, so screw pittman.

i was expecting 30000+ from the league and 10000+ from the team. They couldn't see it so that is why i think it is so low. Wilbon i guess thinks it should be 100,000 and if you compare it to portis's socks then he is right. 20,000 for socks is rediculous

I was hoping it was more for two reasons, the first one due to what is mentioned above. Players get fined more for uniform violations, and other stupid stuff. And secondly, if it was really high like around $80,000 and not chump-change maybe the fine would actually serve its purpose and make Taylor realize, "Hey I just lost a fancy car right there, maybe I'll think about my actions next time".

Re: Taylor Fined $17,000

These $ fines are of no consequence to any player. The only fine of any consequence to a player would be to take away his playing time. While I'm glad St will be playing I think the only way the NFL (or any league for that matter) to hit a player hard is to yank his PT.

cpayne5 01-10-2006 09:46 AM

Re: Taylor Fined $17,000

The fine was $17,000; the amount Taylor was to be paid for the game. Taylor has no proved history of spitting. The $20,000 Portis was fined was for multiple offenses (socks, shoes, visor) which he had a history of. If you only want to look at the numbers, go ahead, but there are other things to consider when comparing the fines.
