Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/6600AP_WST_Dismal_Weather.html
"SEATTLE -- After 22 consecutive days of measurable rain, Seattle is closing in on a record so dismal, even forecasters in this city famous for its gray skies are complaining - albeit politely. With more wet weather predicted over the next several days, Seattle may soon break a record set in 1953, when there 33 consecutive days of measurable precipitation - the most since the local National Weather Service branch started tracking rainfall in 1931. ...Though Seattle is famous for its rain, it gets far less in an average year than many places. The city's mean annual rainfall from 1970 to 2000 was 37.07 inches, compared to 49.71 inches for New York City." |
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
Just to add to your post, Seattle doesn't have hard rain like most places, it's light drizzle with spots of hard rain here and there. It has been nasty the whole week and it's not looking good for Saturday though. It rained the whole day to day...when I woke up it was raining, when I drove to work it was raining, when I went out for lunch it was raining, it was raining when I drove back home, and you guest it, it is raining right now.

Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
I had heard the whole "it rains a lot" in Seattle deal was a ploy by those in Seattle who didn't want a lot of tourism and growth. They hit hard on the fact that it rains and made the city known for it. Isn't the average rain fall not that much more than a bunch of other places in the country?

It is a ploy to keep the Californians down there with Arnold. The average is less than most (if not all east coast cities). We get most of it between November-February. This past summer it didn't rain for almost 2 months. |
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
I feel sorry for you guys, it would be too depressing for me.

Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
I'll stay here in Ashburn , close to my 'Skins
|
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
Skins had a pretty good offensive outing with the Dismal weather in Denver earlier this year, hopefully they can duplicate without as many turnovers. If I remember right Brunell passed well in that game.

Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
It'll slow down Alexander's cuts who is a WAY softer runner up the middle than Portis.
|
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
you indeed get alot of rain there don,t you.
rain or shine the skins will be there on saturday. those who are going to the game represent well for us who can,t be there like myself. |
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
all that rain means is Portis and Betts run circles around the Seattle defense, and our defense eats Shaun Alexander whole.
|
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
It will be a sunny day there after the Skins take care of the Hawks.
|
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
I thought the Seahawks had one of those roofs that opens and closes. Or is that just the baseball stadium that does that?
|
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
we played well very in the rain in denver, so if brunell is healthy he can make do...
Hawaii gets even more rain than seattle (200+days a year), but only 30inches a year (though some spots do get 90+ inches). Hawaii is a bit different though, because if a tropical depression forms (which can turn into hurricanes or can be left after hurricanes dissipate) then you can get some serious storms that dump a foot of rain in a day or two. |

The Mariners have that type of roof, but not the Seahawks. The roof in Qwest field keep most fans dry in the upper levels. |

I'll take that over the rain any day. Plus, our women ....well, no contest. |

Really? There's a lot of CA transplants up here though, but perhaps they do wish they were back down there as they seem to complain about this weather the most. |
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
If it rains we crowd the box blitz form the outside and send good old suan taylor on the roam for the underthrown balls the hassleback is bound to throw

I agree rain helps us i think. Rain is not gonna alow of expolsive throwing offense that people say Seattle has. Alexander is a slasher, rain isnt good for footing, i dont think he will have a blow out game. Portis on the otherhand is up the middel smash mouth.. better for the rain. Also it will be good for our dump passes. i predict 24-10 Skins.....Run boys Run |
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
Stormy weather... Sloppy conditions favor defense and the run game. But Alexander can run too. We'll see!
Jan 11, 3:43 AM EST Mudslides Tie Up Washington Rail Traffic By ELIZABETH M. GILLESPIE Associated Press Writer SEATTLE (AP) -- Heavy rain triggered mudslides that halted Amtrak passenger train service between Vancouver, British Columbia, and Portland, Ore. - the second disruption in the area in a week. Mudslides also blocked part of a major highway Tuesday and chased residents out of a University of Washington fraternity annex, officials said. No injuries were reported. Passenger rail service was to remain closed for at least 48 hours, said Gus Melonas, a spokesman for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., which owns and operates the tracks. Mudslides on Friday knocked out service to both Amtrak and commuter trains. Both services resumed by Monday but were halted again Tuesday. Buses then carried Amtrak passengers around blockages and replaced commuter trains between Seattle and Everett. Crews on Tuesday also cleared debris from a mudslide that blocked part of Interstate 5 near Nisqually. Traffic was being detoured around a slide that closed another state road in Skagit County, the Transportation Department said. Since Dec. 21, the region has experienced the warmest and possibly wettest early winter ever, the weather service said. In Seattle, Tuesday was the 23rd consecutive day of measurable rain. The record, set in 1953, is 33 days. More precipitation was predicted. The National Weather Service issued wind advisories, flood warnings and a winter storm warning for portions of eastern Washington as a warm, moist storm moved through the region. --- |
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
Heavy rains at 14:00 EST in Virginia. Perfect practice weather and no need for dipping the balls in the trash can full of water. Too bad the Hawks don't play on natural grass. I guess that would be unsustainable with the constant moisture and lack of sunlight. (Up there they only grow grass indoors)

Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
I was up in Seattle in October for a weekend wedding-- it rained both days, but only light rain, then it cleared by evening. I think the rain helps the running game and the offense. It also makes the ball slick-- so I would not throw too much to Thrash the thumb.

Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
Most of the mudslides and flooding is taking place outside the city of Seattle.
I liked what Charlie Gibson said on GMA this morning, when they were taking to a Seattle reporter about the 24 days straight of rain and the reporter said that maybe Seattle wants more rain to continue as it will effect the Skins. Gibson said "The weather will not effect my Redskins!" :headbange |
Re: Weather in Seattle Saturday? Take a Wild Guess!
It's going to be wet & cold but I will be there rooting for the Redskins! It hasn't stopped raining up here in so long I can't remember and it has been cold too. I'll be riding in a limo to Seahawks Stadium with 19 Seahawks Fans! I'll be getting a lot of crap of course but I know they are weary of facing a hot team! I am so excited because this will be my first time watching the Redskins play live! Go Redskin!
