Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
That 1st round pick we gave up to Denver is looking worse and worse. Phew!
|
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I'd love to see some more DL and OL depth. Maybe take a project DE with our second round pick. Honestly, I think we could fill a lot of needs at free agency this year.
|
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I think we need to USE what draft picks we have this year. Our team is fairly solid on both sides of the ball. We should be able to get a decent DE in the 2nd round or a pretty good WR. One of those positions will probably be addressed in FA, but I hope they dont go and overpay someone that is marginal. We may also pick up the trade w/ Ramsey for Abraham, so that may leave open drafting a WR in the 2nd round. We will probably end up signing a veteran QB in the offseason to fill the #3 spot. You can usually draft a decent guard in the 3rd round (Dockery) I think we are pretty set with the D line, and LB depending on LA situation. seconday, we could probably use a SS that has better cover skills. Clark is good a run support, but seems to be average w/ cover skills. (like to have Notre Dames SS #9, forgot his name)

I'd draft for offensive line depth. Ray Brown is a goner to retirement after this year, and Corey Raymer looks like a salary cap casualty. Do we know if Molinaro is any good? I'd be picking up offensive linemen left and right if I were Gibbs. Do we have a 3rd rounder this year? I thought we gave up our 1st and 3rd in the Campbell trade, along with our second rounder from last year. |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I think the first thing we should look at is WR early. After Moss and Patten, its pretty wide open. Thrash is primarily a special teams player, and TJ hasn't shown us anything in these last 2 years.
I know we won't be able to draft this guy, but the dude from Georgia Tech Calvin Johnson is sick. 6'4 225 and he's pretty fast. Great hands and can jump for the balls. |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I generally don't like rookie WRs. They are hit and miss, and take a long time to develop even when they're hits.
I'd rather see us get a WR via free agency and draft the other positions. |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I hope we consolidate all the later round picks and just have 1 second round pick and 2 thirds. Last year's latter round picks like Manual White and Jarred Newberry were total busts (save Nemo). Don't know what the deal with McCune is either. White and Newberry were certainly poor choices.
We could use the second rounder on a WR, and the third rounders on an O-lineman and back-up D-lineman/DE. The starting DE we get via free agency. |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
WR, DE
depth: CB, OL, DT, TE, WR, LB oh yeah, possibly a QB if JC doesn't pan out... and new kicker and punter may not be out of the question either. |

They drafted two tackles / guards that year and I can't remember if the other one is still on the team or not. They will need a backup center, and guard, but one of the two(molinaro / other guy) could fill the guard spot. I would still use the 2nd rounder for either the DE or WR, which ever is the best player available. These are impact players that would make a bigger difference immediately with out team. The OL draft picks are not going to be immediate starters where the DE or WR could be. |

But this kid Calvin Johnson is the real deal. I think he's worth the risk. Bottom line is, we need someone to compliment Moss, and it would be nice if he had some size. |

Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
wouldn't be suprised if Raymer comes back for Vet Min. We need to address the following positions:
Pass rushing Defensive End Wide Reciever Cornerback Tightend 3rd Quarterback (if Ramsey is gone) Dline |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I would love it if we got at least a 3rd or 4th rounder for Ramsey.
|
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
wilson (the "other" OL) has been gone since final cuts months and months ago... tupa may be back, but he's also 40 now (though 44 year olds have been useful as punters). Hall after being injured 2 years in a row could bounce back, but he could also be at the end of his career.
|
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
We might be able to watch the Free Agency mkt to get a vet WR. I agree with a lot of you on this thread that it is hard to get a good Rookie WR to perform in his first year. Draft DE. Go get a new punter via FA as well. Cut Taylor Jacobs and see if Patten and maybe Farris are the answers at WR otherwise go find a big possesion guy to complement Moss.
|
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I'd like to see them keep Tupa, but I also think they should fake at least 50 % of their punts, so that may be clouding my judgement.
I agree with whoever said that it's risky to draft a WR. It's a position that requires alot of hard work and discipline. (T.O. for all his problems is legendary for his workout regimen) Better to get someone like Reggie Wayne who is already up to speed. Draft needs as follows: 1. Guard/Center 2. Defensive End 3. Cornerback 4. Take a chance on a few recievers and see if any dazzle. |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I don't think the skins will use their first pick on defense. GW probably could turn a later round pick into a system guy.
Just for speculation...If the skins went WR, how about this guy from Notre Dame, Jeff Samardiza (spelling?). I don't follow that much college, but i think he is a jr and i don't know if he is going to declare for the draft. I want to say, he is about 6'6" and can fly. I've watched several ND games (since there on nbc) and he really seems like he has good/great hands and is ready for the next level. He would seem to me a great compliment to Moss and Patten. Any thoughts? |

WIDE RECEIVERS Reggie Wayne Colts 27 Koren Robinson Vikings 25 Keenan McCardell Chargers 35 Joe Jurevicius Seahawks 31 Antwaan Randle El Steelers 26 Wayne would probably cost big money, but he would be worth it. He would love the Redskins "U" movement. And would put up pretty good numbers opposite Moss. Robinson will cost a lot less, and he looks like he has turned his career back around. He post some good numbers in MIN and probably doesn't want to go through the change over there. He would also be a very good option opposite Moss. McCardell is getting up in years, but he has an uncanny connection with Brunell. I watched those two play together in JAX, reminds me of how Manning and Harrison seem to know what each other are thinking. As a possession receiver he would be solid. And after all Gibbs did draft him. Jurevicius would be another good option as a possession receiver. His size would give Brunell an easy target for 1st downs and in the Red Zone. Randle El would really help to open up our offense. We would be able to stretch the field from both sides. He is also very dangerious in the return game. |

Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I think Dend and Tight end would make the biggest impact. And forgive me if i am biased because i go to UMD...but Vernon Davis (tight end MD) is going to be sooo disgustingly good when he comes into the league...i just wish we could find a way to get him on the skins. Having him and Cooley on the field at the same time plus Moss and a decent 2nd receiver (patten or Jacobs would prolly both be fine) would open things up soooooo much. And Portis would just run wild. How amazing that would be!

V.Davis is good. Is he a Senior yet? I think Jacobs is gone after this year. |

Davis is a top 10 pick, i believe. |

Ranlde El is intriguing. Another option might be to draft a guy like Hagans from UVa. He is a lot like Randle El. Decent college QB with good speed and maybe good hands. He'll play WR is the NFL if he has the hands. He played WR his sophomore year when they had Schaub so he has a little experience at it. His combine performance will tell where he goes but is almost certainly a 2nd day guy. A project but we're talkign about our 3rd WR right now probably so a project at the 3rd spot is ok. I wouldn't draft a WR in the first round most years and this year is no different. OL and DL should be the focus early. |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
jacobs isn't fine and last i heard VD is coming out and will be a high 1st rounder.
having two great TEs isn't going to help as much as having 2 great WRs, and i think a DE would make a bigger difference too. So even though he probably is a talent, i don't think he's the guy we really need. |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
the last couple years there have been sure fire WRs (fitzgerald and edwards), but outside of those two, I don't remember any sure locks (and they both went in the top 3).
B lloyd of the 49ers will be free too i think, and he can make some circus catches, but i've also seen him alligator arm some... either way he could be a pretty cheap #2 or #3. |

Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I like to see if we could fill in that WR spot with free agent! Bryant out of the Browns could fit! We need OL and DL help along with another CB!

Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
Our Draft picks are as follows.
2,3,5,6,6,7 Traded our 1 & 4 for Jason Campbell Extra 6 for Rod Gardner Good Link for Draft Info |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
i would like to see a DE and maybe another interior lineman. WR would be nice as well.
|
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I wonder if we would trade our 2...or our 2 and 3 for a number 1?
|
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
While we're talking about wide receivers, what about about Moulds from Buffalo. I heard there's chance he'll be available. He's older but so was muhamad and smith.

Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
Wr or a consistent all around de are the 2 areas we need to address first and foremost. I think both could be addressed through free agency but de's r such huge hits or misses in the draft, I could see the skins only drafting a wr, special teamers who might be able to fill in on defense, and o-linemen.I'd still like to see the team draft a nice pass catching te who can block and I think the perfect choice if he fell to us would be Jeff King of VT. Anyone know if that mammoth of a te, from georgia I believe it is, is going into the draft?

Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
I just read the other day that Anthony Fasano TE out of Notre Dame (junior i think) just declared for the draft. Does anyone know anything about him???
The reason i like the idea of getting a TE more than another wide receiver...is simply that i am not convinced that our current wide receivers are all that bad. They are not getting much production outside of moss...but i dont know...i really have a feeling that that is mostly because of the fact that Brunell is not looking to them. That is not a knock on Brunell...cause he has done a bunch of other things really well...and has developed a tremendous rapport with cooley and moss. But i just dont think its worth going out and spending more on another wide out...cause i believe when our QB changes...either to PR or campbell we will see our current guys start producing a lot more. In addition, considering Brunell has a good chance of being the starter again next year...and seeing as how he likes to dump it off short if Moss isnt open, i think having a 2nd talented Tight end could do wonders for opening up our offense...whereas if Brunell is still the QB i dont see another number 2 or 3 receiver opening anything up more than TJ or Patten have been able to do. |
Re: Draft Forum Now Open!
even though it ain't gonna happen and it isn't a real need, wouldn't it be awesome to see a player like AJ Hawk of OSU in a skins uni?
