The missed FG
How pivitol do you think it woulda been if John Hall had made that field goal? You think everyones going to lay it on him for missing? Think he'll be back next season?
Personally I always liked Nick Novak.. But I digress.. :frusty: |
Re: The missed FG
Hall was actually a good pickup that our front office got a lot of unwarranted crap for. But, ever since last season (when he got injured) he hasn't been the same. We likely will indeed need a new kicker (and punter) come next season.
Supposedly Janakowski and Vanderjagt are going to hit free agency. Those guys don't have the best character, but they are damn good kickers. |
Re: The missed FG
we cant really blame him for missing cause we should have never been in the situation in the first place. our defense should have been fired up they werent, it just seem like everyone was flat. alexander went out and that should have made them one dimensional and we let them still have a running game. im upset with alot of things about that game i could go on and on.
|
Re: The missed FG
I'd rather have Hall over those two "liquored up kicker[s]". :D
Hall is really not that bad. I am *very* happy that we have a kicker like him. Whenever I get down on Hall, all I have to do is look back to the late 90s/ early 00s. |
Re: The missed FG
no im not gnna blame the game one the guy bc if your game hangs on the kickers shoulders than theres a problem, i jst dnt think this guy has it in him anymore. id take novak over tthis JH

Re: The missed FG
Man we need to go get one of those local soccer players to start kicking for us.
|
Re: The missed FG
There are some good kickers coming out this year it would behove us to draft a punter and a kicker with 2 of our 3 pick's. :towel:
|
Re: The missed FG
And how about Frost? He was doing a kick ass job this game compared to the TB game. Although I know he won't be back, I'm glad he showed up to this game.
Tupa is on IR, so I'm assuming he'll be our punter for next season. |

Re: The missed FG
What about our defense not being able to stop them? How many punts did they have?
|
Re: The missed FG
Please, you can't honestly believe that the loss tonight was the defense's fault? They gave the ball to the offense 3 times and what did we come away with? 3 lousy points.
The "D" has been the one solid part of this team, consistently, game in and game out for the past 2 years. Once again, as with last year, our offense cannot consistently put together a string of good games. Even with our 6 game winning streak, it was the "D" that played a major role in most of the wins. |
Re: The missed FG
hall did recover that fumble, which was a great play by him. thing is he is excellent from sub 40 yards, except on that kick. he cant make them over 40 right now with this injury, but i think he is a good kicker still

Bottom line, since his injury, Hall's kickoffs have been subpar, and he can no longer be counted on to attempt FGs in the 50-55 yard range, which was a big reason we made him one of the highest paid kickers. At minimum, Gibbs must bring in competition at PK for next season, perhaps even through the draft. He spent a 2nd round pick on Chip Lohmiller once upon a time - that gave us stability at the position for years. |
Re: The missed FG
Hall is being paid too much for what he brings to the table, I won't be surprised if we look to replace him.

Undoubtedly. He's getting paid like a Pro Bowler but playing like a tub-soaker. |

Yeah I'd be surpirsed if they get rid of him outright this offseason but I can bet we'll see some serious competition next year. His leg was noticeably weaker this year and they showed a lack of confidence in him when they had some shots at longer FGs this year and didn;t take them. Any good FAs I wonder. |

Re: The missed FG
Hall was nothing special this season. YES, it took some of the wind out of our sails missing the FG. if your hall, you MUST make that kick!
|
Re: The missed FG
Hall looked horrible in warmups. He was short on most of his 50 yard attempts and his 45 yarders were barely making it. I knew then, that we could not depend on Hall (something many of us knew already) I thought Gibbs should have went for it and they were thinking about it.
Matty said it right. He is being paid too much for too little and Gibbs should not be forced to go for it from the 33 because he knows his kicker will come up short on a 50-yarder. |
Re: The missed FG
we need a new kicker that is more reliable and cheaper.it got to a point in the season that coach gibbs was wondering just what john halls range was.makes too much to be undependable
|
Re: The missed FG
Hall is the only kicker I can recall who is hurt all the time. You are a kicker! How can you be hurt all the time?
We need a guy who is at least capable of making 50 yarders. |
Re: The missed FG
The pressing question for me was,on 4th and 4 in the fourth quarter with 6:54, why didn't we go for the first down instead of kicking a field goal. I think we did rely too much on the defense to hold them after they had struggled all day to contain Hasselbeck. The conservative play-calling kind of hurt the moral of the team because Portis, Betts and Cartwright wasn't given the opportunity to get the short yardage. If we could convert a 3rd and 20 against the Seahawks, what is four yards with Rock Cartwright running the ball? Cartwright should have been given a chance.

Re: The missed FG
Did they show on TV when he spiked the ball and did a forward roll to celebrate his fumble recovery? I crapped my pants when I saw that. I was thinking "Don't pull a "Gramatica"!"
Nice fumble recovery, but kickers should not do any excessive celebration, especially when you're hurt to start with. |
Re: The missed FG
How can I say this without cursing or drawing question to the sexuality of the position as a whole - kickers don't belong in football.

Re: The missed FG
One word. Kickoff.
Hall couldnt even kick the ball past the 15. We always were giving good field positon to them becasue of it. |
Re: The missed FG
a money 40 yard FG kicker is often referred to in this league as worthless.
|
Re: The missed FG
We need a damn kickoff specialist if we are going to keep Hall. We need someone who can kick the ball inside the 5 everytime.

That's was pisses me off the most about Hall are is short kickoffs. The problem with having a kickoff specialist and a field goal specialist is it seems like a waste of a valuable roster spot. It seems like a kicker out to be able to nail field goal AND kickoff - that's not real unusual, difficult request, plenty of them do it. I don't want to blow a roster spot on an extra kicker when we could use it for some depth at CB or WR. |
Re: The missed FG
Hall seems to be affraid to go full strength. I watched at FEDEX and never seemed to get out of his warm up mode. I think its time to move on.
|
Re: The missed FG
Before Statudays game when was the last time that Hall missed a kick that he should have made?
|
Re: The missed FG

That's a flawed question since we punt a lot more than we should have to once we cross the 50. |
