Larry Moore cut
Per the WP:
Meantime, the Redskins cut center Larry Moore, according to a source familiar with the situation, saving $1.3 million in cap space. The eighth-year veteran had been Washington's starting center the previous two seasons. But the Redskins signed Cory Raymer and re-signed Lennie Friedman to compete for the starting job, making Moore expendable. Moore was released last week, but the move was never announced by the Redskins. Moore is expected to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals, according to another source. Moore missed the Redskins' minicamp last month with a bruised foot. The Redskins would have waived Moore sooner, but NFL rules prohibit an injured player from being released. The Redskins fall to $2.4 million under the salary cap, giving them room to sign their draft picks and perhaps another free agent, after the June 1 cuts. The Redskins haven't addressed their need for a pass-rush specialist. Around the league, among the defensive ends who may be waived are Joe Johnson of the Green Bay Packers and Hugh Douglas of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Hugh Douglas anyone?? |
How old is Hugh? If the price is cheap, why not??
|
Douglas is 32, will be 33 by time the season starts.
|
Looks like Hugh is ready to put last year behind him

Hugh Douglas would be all right. What about Joe Johnson ... does he have anything left?
|
if Hugh Douglas is released and isnt expensive he would be an upgrade over Wynn, and we could get rid of Wynns big contract. I dont see him being an elite player anymore, he was probably the biggest free agent bust last year. If hes not in shape now though then theres not much of a point.
Whats up with Tony Brackens. or mabye A.O. (the dolphins end). Not like we could offer a second round pick for him, and I dont know if id want up to get up a first. The Fins do need a good tackle. |
I've heard Chidi Ahanotu might be available this summer as well. What do we think of that?
I think Raymer should be the starter at center. Let Friedman back up Raymer and the guards |
Hugh Douglas. Come on. Ex Eagles never do squat anywhere else. I hate the Eagles as much as the rest of you, but give them credit, it seems like they know when to get rid of a guy.
|
yea Ramer should start. Its weird that they released Moore without saying anything. Where Ahanotu play again? I only know about him because of Madden and I do lots of fantasy drafts and forget where peopel are from. Cinci comes to mind but that doesnt mean much.
Anyone know how much cap space we will save if we cut Fiore, or he retires? |
Chidi was with San Fran last year. But the year before that he was with Gregg Williams in Buffalo
|
Well San Fran is going to be the Arizona in their division next year. They arent even in a rebuilding phase, they are just in a getting rid of phase. I hope their starting QB gets injured and they throw Ken Dorsey in their so he can prove to the world how grat of a QB he is. THey think he doesnt have a strong enough arm...well, im sure its not the strongest but that guy is a leader and all he knows how to do is win.
Chidi could be a good pick up for us, im sure Williams will look into him, or atleast know whether or not they should go after him. |

i wonder what took so long to cut moore and also why didn't they announce it sooner?
|
They couldn't cut Moore before because he was physically unable to play and you can't release a player who isn't healthy supposedly. So I guess he's been given a clearance to play now
|
I meant it said they cut him last week but didnt announce it. He was cleared to be cut last week, they just didnt tell anyone other than the league office that they cut him.

oh ok, thanks. i wasn't aware of him being hurt. relating to injury news, i was glad to read that most of the new players signed who didn't participate in the last mini camp due to injuries will be giving it a go this weekend. ramsey will also be taking part in more than just throwing drills this weekend. |
I had not heard anything about Ramsey, Im glad he will get more reps this time. Is he 100% yet? And is this minicamp with pads or just drills again?
|

the report i'd read only said he'd be able to test his foot in scrimmages and not just passing drills. i'm not sure if this is a full contact camp or not though. |
Thought they'd cut Moore all along with the addition or Raymer and Lennie for backup. Or maybe Lennie will start and Cory is going to backup. As for Hugh, maybe not. Depends on what kind of money he'll, be asking. That's why Philly wouldn't go there.
|
So what are we at with the cap, like 1.8 under? I thought we had 500k left before this cut, so that would make it 1.8 ( If I'm right ). Now, we will just assume we dont make any other cuts ( which I doubt ), do we have enough to sign Taylor and someone like Hugh Douglass with 1.8 million?
|
I'm guessing even if it is a full contact camp they'll make Ramsy two hand touch, or something of the sort. It would be crazy to possibly re-aggrivate his injury in a mini-camp.
|
I think we are at 2.5 under now if I remember correctly. Of course I dont know what the deal is with all the undrafted guys and how those contracts work.

i think that's about right and i think the undrafted rookies don't actually have contracts that count against the cap just yet. I'm probably wrong about this, but i think they pretty much just r getting a bit of money to come try out at camp. and we'll be freeing up a bit more money with the release of trotter, candidate, and possibly wynn if we do sign a passrushing de. |
yeah, i doubt any full contact on any of our QBs in mini camp

Those three names will help us out with cap space more next year than this year. Well, it depends when they cut them. I think we would be smart to take as much of the hits as we can afford this year, we're going to need the money next year. |
i just looked it up, we saved 1.3 million by cutting moore since he was in his last year of the contract.
|
is it just me or have the browns and bengals acquired quite a released redskins over the past few years? and not just players but coaches 2.

From the Cincinnati Enquirer: http://bengals.enquirer.com/2004/04/30/bengals30box.html
Center Larry Moore will be the ninth member of the 2002 Redskins brought to Cincinnati by coach Marvin Lewis, the former defensive coordinator for Washington. The first eight also played for the Redskins in 2002 and are currently on the Bengals roster: LaDairis Jackson, DT; Patrick Johnson, WR; Ricot Joseph, S; Shane Matthews, QB; Moore; Carl Powell, DE; Greg Scott, DE; Alex Sulfsted, OL; and Kenny Watson, RB. Matthews is unsigned as an unrestricted free agent. The Bengals also are expected to have a deal in place to sign 2002 Redskins starting defensive tackle Daryl Gardener once he is released June 1 by Denver. |

The contracts of the the highest (I think) 58 players count against the cap regardless of their rookie/veteran status. I think its the top 58 but I just don't remember. Can someone help me out on this? |
