Third QB For 2006
If Ramsey for whatever reason is not with the team in 06 we will be in need of a # 3 QB as Campbell will be the back-up to Brunell. Do we add a young QB or do we seek a veteran? If we seek a veteran player, any suggestions as to who it may be?

I say draft a rookie in the 5th round or something. |
Re: Third QB For 2006
I think with the QB musical chairs this year, FA available, and draft options, I don't think we'll have a tough time filling the spot.
Does anyone know if Sage Rosenfels signed a long-term deal with Miami? If they get, let's say a Culpepper, he could become available again. |
Re: Third QB For 2006
vick, lol. Seneca Wallace, Anthony Wright, Tim Hasselbeck. a few names come to mind

I would like to see my favorite 0.0 passer rating QB of all time in a skins uni again. But Seneca Wallace could be our number 3 receiver too!! :hitfan: He is better than TJ. Did anyone see that catch?:spank: . |
Re: Third QB For 2006
Most 3rds in the league are young guys that the team hopes they don't have to play. I'm not sure that Campbell is the 2 next year. If they bring in a vet he will be the short term backup and Campbell would probably draw long term duty unless we are in the thick of it and need someone to keep us above water until Brunell gets back.
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
I'm almost positive that Ramsey will not be in a Redskins Uniform in 2006. I think that we should be set with Brunell starting and Campbell as a backup for one more year, but if it comes down to both Brunell and Campbell getting hurt which I doubt will happen, but if we pick up Randle El I think he could step in as a #3 QB his passing stats for Pittsburgh are 14-16, 316yds, and 2tds.

Randl El isn't a viable option at quarterback. The guy hasn't played the position in years. Personally, I'd like to see Tim Hasselbeck back in a Redskins uniform. He has one year under Gibbs and I think it was pretty clear that Gibbs liked his approach. He is a mobile guy who won't make glaring mistakes. |
Re: Third QB For 2006
well antwaan is the steeler's number 3.

With Randle El serving as our #3 it would save us some money instead of having to sign a #3 QB that probably will never see the field. But I do believe If Randle El was called upon to serve as a #3 QB he would do a serviceable job. |
Re: Third QB For 2006
If we follow Gibbs' habits from the 80's, we'll more than likely try to sign a cheap veteran to be the #3 guy.

Kurt Warner.... ha sike!

how about Josh McCown I should start a poll: Which Free Agent/Former Redskin QB would you like to see back: 1. Tim Hasselbeck 2. Shane Matthews 3. Sage Rosenfels |

Re: Third QB For 2006
I like the idea of Randal...but lets be real. Gibbs loves being deep at QB, and there's no way he will go into the season with him as our #3, and i would be REALLY surprised if he didn't pick up some kind of Vet to compete with Jason as our #2.

Flutie, Flutie, Flutie
Flutie, Flutie, Flutie
Yeah, cut John Hall, sign Flutie to kick....but he makes Brunell look virgin.... How about Omar Jacobs from Bowling Green for the 3rd QB? Great numbers, consistency, knack for making plays....... |
Re: Third QB For 2006
I think we have greater needs to fill with our 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks to use it on Jacobs...but if he falls to 5th, i'm all for it.

Re: Third QB For 2006
I saw Timmy's wife on Letterman earlier. That lucky SOB. I think Timmy's happy in New York with his little buddy Eli. I don't think Timmy's coming back. I think the Redskins should have their scouts find the best Arena League QB available. I believe thats the best training there is for NFL qb. If not there then Europe. Also I would throw out the name of Aaron Brooks. I think he's got a game or two left in him.
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
I can't imagine Gibbs going with only two quarterbacks. I think he feels more than anything, that this is a position where you need security.
If we get Randle-El, it will be to play him at receiver. |
Re: Third QB For 2006
None of you have mentioned a guy who was with saunders for years and would come very cheap: Todd Collins
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
Over at theHogs.net they report the Skins have signed (and lost) the following players since Brown reitred and among them is a quarterback. Will any of these players survive training camp?
Jan/22/2006 Riley, Karon The Redskins Signed Defensive End Karon Riley. Jan/21/2006 Lumsden, Jesse The Redskins Signed Running Back Jesse Lumsden. Jan/21/2006 Bramlet, Casey The Redskins Signed Quarterback Casey Bramlet. Jan/20/2006 Jones, Jim The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Signed Offensive Lineman Jim Jones From The Redskins Practice Squad. Jan/20/2006 Ellick, Dwight The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Signed Cornerback Dwight Ellick From The Redskins Practice Squad. Jan/20/2006 Powel, Calen The Redskins Signed Tight End Calen Powell For 2006. Jan/20/2006 Alston, Jonathan The Redskins Signed Offensive Lineman Jonathan Alston For 2006. Jan/20/2006 Burns, Curry The Redskins Signed Safety Curry Burns For 2006. Jan/20/2006 Harris, Steven The Redskins Signed Wide Receiver Steven Harris For 2006. Jan/20/2006 Smith, Richard The Redskins Signed Wide Receiver Richard Smith For 2006. Jan/15/2006 Brown, Ray Redskins Offensive Lineman Ray Brown Retires After 20 Years In The NFL. |
Re: Third QB For 2006
Ellick might...TB has been know to back stock solid CB's...And i think we will give Harris a chance to earn a spot on the roster that Jacobs might leave...Curry for depth at safety, just because we might lose Stoudimire to FA....Other then that, i think the signing are more of a finding bodies for camp/offseason
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
Charlie Batch is the #3 in Pittsburgh...Randle-El is the extreme emergency option. Not sure he's the possession guy the Skins should look to, as they already have speed in Moss and Patten.
The catch Seneca Wallace made was incredible...he plays a lot bigger than his listed 5'11". Names on the list of FAs I found that I think could compete for the #2/#3 job in DC: Anthony Wright Charlie Batch Jon Kitna Tim Hasselbeck There should be a late round guy that can be picked up as well... |

Yeah I won't be surprised if we bring someone in who's got direct experience with Saunders, to be a mentor of sorts to Brunell and Campbell. |

He was only there to give the CBs some practice intercepting balls. |

Hey, if they are signing guys for that, I'll be there tomorrow! I could live with Hasselbeck coming back, but I'd prefer Rosenfels - more upside |
Re: Third QB For 2006
I think the Skins should look at one of the Huard brothers or a Detmer, they've pretty much taken over the #3 spot on QB depth charts for their entire careers...lol. Honestly, though, who really cares who the number 3 quarterback is? What effect will they have on anything? I don't really remember seeing much of Campbell this year. Hopefully it doesn't make a difference who the #3 quarterback is.
If you're gonna make me pick one though, I say Anthony Wright if he wouldn't mind being the #3. |

I kinda just threw the Huards out there cause I know they're in the NFL, but I don't know if either have ever seen the field. I think it's kinda funny that he was on the Chiefs.
Tell that to the Jets!
I said hopefully. |
Re: Third QB For 2006
how bout Mike McMahon, Sage Rosenfels, or AJ Feely? Before you grill me remember we're discussing third string clipboard holders
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
I'd say we just draft someone out of the woodwork. After his season last year, Chris Leak could drop to the 3rd or 4th round I would think, I've always been a huge fan of him. I could be way off with that 3rd/4th statmenet though.
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
I think Leak said he was returning to Florida. And I'd be against drafting someone, that would give us essentially 2 QBs (along with Campbell) with no playing experience. Too much of a risk I think
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
I'd prefer someone with experience in Saunders' system. I don't know if Huard or Collins are real possibilities, but it's something to look into.
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
I'm leaning towards drafting someone or grabbing someone from Europe, the Arena league, or the best QB training ground around - the CFL.
The only vet I would really want to see here would be Flutie. I love the guy and I thinks he brings a lot of intangibles wherever he goes. The last thing I want to do is spend a lot of money on a vet that will ride the bench anyways (assuming Campbell is indeed ready). If we're looking for a vet QB who is cheap - well we already have that - his name is Patrick Ramsey. |
Re: Third QB For 2006
How bout Charlie Whitehurst from Clemson. I played high school ball with him and he was pretty good. His only problem was he wasn't very mobile at the college level (high school made him look like a dual threat QB).
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
i don't care who our third quarterback is, as long as he never sees the playing field. That would be a good thing for us next year.
|
Re: Third QB For 2006
kitna wants to start and will cost too much for a #3, wright might not be a bad pick, but he's really not a passer in any way. S wallace would be better if he's available... he has real speed.
