New Monday Night Football Team?
 

Have you guys heard the rumors that ABC will let Al Michaels out of his contract so he can join John Madden on Sunday Night Football on NBC, then the new MNF team on ESPN will be Mike Tirico doing play-by-play with Joe Theismann and Tony Kornheiser doing color.

If this is the case, what do you think of this line-up for ESPN?

I'd love to see Kornheiser do some announcing! Personally, I really don't like Theisman as an announcer that much.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea. I wonder what TK thinks about this. He's always saying that John Riggins should get a shot at the booth, but he has never mentioned himself as someone to do color commentary.

I will say this, TK is a funny ass dude.

I hate to love TK. But i do. I do so much.

And i dislike Joe. I think he's a dumb, self-hyped, idiot. I would rather sonny and sam. And i don't like them very much either. But atleast they are not self important.

Interesting... I think Tony K. in the booth would be a good move. I used to hate the guy but he's one of those people that grows on you with time, I think he's hilarious now.

Yeah I love Tony K. I hope this one comes true. He could be funnier than Dennis Miller, and yet still have some serious football insight to offer.

Anyone who listens to TK's show knows he likes to go to bed early (like around 8) so i'm not sure he is up for MNF

Kornheiser was one of the finalists when ABC hired Dennis Miller...and TK is still bitter about that. TK would be fine for the first few games, but then would get old really quick. And I like the guy...

I can't stand Joe Theismann, and Tirico does a decent job doing play by play, but would much rather see Al Michaels stay.

I KNOW tony has talked about this in a article or his show or on the radio(most likely) but i forget what he said. I THINK THINK THINK he was talking like it wasn't gonna happen and i think he didn't want to. BUt this was like 3-4 weeks ago when i heard it.

I think he had said he prefers college football so ESPN is assigning him college games.

i like joey t. in the booth, i think he does a great job. i absolutely hate macguire(sp) all he ever says is " hey folks look at his hands. will you just look at his hands? those are some great hands." i'm sick of hearing about players hands.:vomit:

You didn't honestly say Sam Huff for MNF did you? He may be the worst announcer in radio. He needs to hang it up. He was o.k. 5 - 10 years ago.

When you are listening to a game on the radio and you can not only tell that the announcer is referencing the wrong player but you know who the right player is, it is time for them to go...

Paul Maguire is horrible. I would rather listen to Siragusa or Baldinger.

TK would be good, miller was awful... he was there to be funny and he tried to be the football analyst instead... that and he was too busy proving his intelligence to be funny anyways.

I dont like JT, he talks too much (endless references to how great the current city is) its like he's afraid silence will make his head explode.

I miss the days of listening to Jack Buck and Hank Stram do MNF on the radio. They were the best in my opinion.

Jack Buck was in a class by himself on the wireless. On TV I always liked Tom Brookshirer. He and Sumerall were great fun together.

I think Theismann does a teriffic job, though that booth was weighted down terribly by Maguire. It is a tribute to Theismann's post leg-snap maturity that he tolerated Paul all those years. I would like to see Al Micheals stay but I think Tirico would be adequate. I don't hate Tirico. The danger with bringing in TK and saying "he's the comic relief", is that now Kornheiser has to sit there and try to work in his lines. And then the other two have to pretend to laugh. I thought they would have learned their lesson with Dennis. I think it would be better to put Tony Realli in the booth and have him correct Tirico's mistakes as "Stat Boy". " Actually Mike, it's Mark Brunell, not Scott Brunell..."

IMO, the only time that three man booth succeeded was with Howard Cosell. Even then, half the country would disagree. I think MNF should go with a two-man booth and emphasize the game over personalities. And PLEASE for God's sake. Let go of the Hank Jr. thing. They had the best, most recognizable theme in sports and they've made us listen to that awful country song for fifteen years now. Enough is enough. Make it about the game!

mike patrick and joey t together are a good crew.a 2 man booth is the way to go,no one tripping over each others words.as far as michaels and madden,in a class by themselves

summerall was great but the last thing they need in the booth is a guy who I think is 80 something, who during the last couple of years he was working on MNF, accidentally cussed a few times, got the players names wrong quite a few times, and just seemed to be repeating what Madden was saying.
with all of this talk of Mike Torrico, can someone help me out: Where have I heard that name?

Does Mike Torico do a lot of the Thursday college football games with Kirk Herbstreet or whatever his name is? If I'm thinking of the right guy, then I think he'd be a good choice in fact I like that broadcast duo over quite a few nfl broadcast teams.

When Maguire is yapping in my ear for 3 straight hours I always think - thank God for Theismann.

When clowns like Peter King keep Art Monk out of the HOF - thank God for Theismann.

When every media 'expert' predicts the Skins will go 4-12 - thank God for Theismann.

I think Joey T is a great announcer. He knows the game, speaks well and always handles himself with class. Plus he's always remained loyal towards the Skins. I'm really happy for him and can't wait to watch him on MNF.

I like JT as a homer and an analyst, but he's just not a good announcer. I rather listen to aikman.

Riggins is great on Sirius Radio's Afternoon Blitz. Adam Schein is pretty good too but sometimes over the top and still a bit too young
Kornheiser is great and would play off of John pretty well. Tirico, Kornheiser and Riggins is a team I would check out for sure.
I think Theisman is one of the worst all time. He is just way too obnoxious for me. Comes across as a know it all and acts like he never missed a pass or fumbled the ball in his career.

I doubt this will happen, but I'd like to see a former Redskin and a Washington Post guy on the MNF team, sure.
