Who's the guy with the 8?
|
Kozlowski
|
To hell with 8, look at 11. He's the man!!
|
Forgive my ignorance, but who the hell is Kozlowski?
|
We picked him up from Atlanta
|
It's great to see Ramsey back out there again. I wonder if his foot is totally pain free now??

From what I've read he's 100%, I'm sure Joe will get the scoop for us |

Second Mini-Camp is Underway
By Gary Fitzgerald Redskins.com April 30, 2004 With veterans and rookies side by side, the Redskins held their first practice of their post-draft mini-camp Friday afternoon. It wasn't always the most efficient of practices, but football was back at Redskins Park. "It was good to get everybody together-that's the good news," head coach Joe Gibbs said. "The bad news is: It was rough out there. Obviously we got quite a bit in and some of the young first-year guys had a tough time today. We had a good attitude-it just seemed we were off on a bunch of stuff." Mark Brunell confers with QB coach Jack Burns during passing drills. (Photo by Gary Fitzgerald) Added quarterback Mark Brunell: "What you want right now is a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm, great attitude and hard work. We've got that in place." It was the first NFL mini-camp for about 15 rookies, including first-round draft pick Sean Taylor and third-round draft pick Chris Cooley. Late-round picks Mark Wilson and Jim Molinaro, a pair of offensive tackles, made a quick first impression with their 6-6, 300-pound frames, not to mention their long hair. Most of the players arrived at Redskins Park for the mini-camp on Thursday evening for a team dinner. On Friday morning, the team held a walk-through practice. After a series of position meetings, the team held a full-scale practice in the late afternoon. Some other observations on the first day of Redskins mini-camp: -- With Derrick Dockery, Randy Thomas and Kenyatta Jones each sitting out the scrimmages, Molinaro, Wilson and Bill Ferrario seemed to get a lot of work. At one point, Wilson lined up at left tackle and Molinaro lined up at left guard. -- Veterans were already instructing the newcomers on the way of the NFL. After Cooley hauled in a pass, he turned upfield and sprinted five yards before stopping in his tracks. On the sidelines, a group of veterans led by Rock Cartwright chided Cooley, telling him to continue running upfield and finish the play. -- Speaking of Cartwright, the third-year player was lining up at tailback. There was some speculation early on that Cartwright might fit in as an H-back, but with Cooley, Mike Sellers and Brian Kozlowski in that role, it appears Gibbs prefers his H-backs to have more size. -- Running back Clinton Portis crossed everyone up with his uniform number. He was expected to wear jersey No. 35, albeit temporarily, but instead he wore No. 6. At the last mini-camp, he wore No. 3. -- Defensive line coach Greg Blache is experimenting with several defensive line combinations. Renaldo Wynn and Regan Upshaw were at end mostly, while Cornelius Griffin and Phillip Daniels were at tackle. Later, Wynn moved inside--a position he has played often in the past--and LaVar Arrington lined up at end. -- Taylor saw most of his action on the third team defense. He did not get as many reps during the scrimmage, instead working closely with defensive backs coaches DeWayne Walker and Steve Jackson. Said Gibbs: "It's hard for the rookies because right now we have quite a bit in place. They were thrown into the fire." Regarding Cooley, Gibbs said: "I know he's extremely bright. First impressions are, he's going to get thrown into the mix and he's going to have to fight. I think from what we know about him, he's going to do well with that. He's quick. He's got good hands. But from the first workout, it's hard to tell." |
According to one of the local sports reports (NBC 4), Cooley said that getting tackled by Lavar was his "highlight" of the day. One of the anchor's laughed and wanted to know why that would be his personal highlight.

Uhhh, the rookie needs to pick better things to say than that. |

I seriously hope he wins the starting job. |

Sean Taylor |
No C Walking On The Field Sean!
I agree Cpayne. I hope Ramsey get's the job, as much as I doubt he will. I think Cooley is just impressed to be hit by LaVar. He sounds like a fan! |
Where is joecrisp with his report? I want to know how the team really looks on the field this time around.
|
it was funny reading the post's report on the minicamp and saying how on almost every play taylor had to keep pulling his shorts up. i hope he doesn't get hurt because of something stupid like that.
|
Hey guys. Sorry I haven't checked in till now. I can tell you that aside from his imposing size as a safety and his oversized shorts, Sean Taylor looked very human in Friday's practice. But that's to be expected-- all the new guys seemed really overwhelmed.
To be truthful, the tone and performance of the practice was a little disappointing overall-- but maybe it's just because Sean Taylor didn't really do anything spectacular. That's what everyone came to practice hoping to see, but it just didn't happen. It's unfair and unrealistic to expect the kid to set the world on fire in his first practice, though. The runningbacks looked really good, but I hate saying that, because any runningback is going to look good when nobody's wearing pads and the live bullets aren't flying. But Rock Cartwright seems to be playing with a little more pep than the other guys. I'm not sure if it's because he knows he's got a real uphill battle against Betts, Canidate, Morton, Simon and McCullough, or simply the fact that Runningbacks Coach Earnest Byner seems to be giving him a lot of attention in drills-- probably a combination of the two-- but Rock seems to realize he's really going to have to fight for a roster spot, and he's trying hard to impress Byner and the other coaches. |

C Walking? What's that? |
what number was Taylor wearing, i could only make out the 3.
It must be hard for the rookies to just jump in, its not like they know any of the plays yet. |
what number was Taylor wearing, i could only make out the 3.
It must be hard for the rookies to just jump in, its not like they know any of the plays yet.
Taylor was wearing #36. Gibbs is definitely not cutting the new guys much slack. It's basically a case of Gibbs knowing that he's got a lot of ground to cover to get the team on somewhat equal footing with other teams that aren't going through a coaching transition, and he's not going to back off the throttle-- guys are going to have to catch up quick, or they won't be playing until they have. So it's doubly tough for the rookies-- not only are they making the transition from college to the pros, but they're doing so in a very unfavorable situation where the learning curve has been ramped up by a coaching staff that is trying to accelerate their own transition. Though the coaches are making some effort to bring the new guys up to speed, they certainly aren't overextending themselves in doing so. When I asked one of the rookie offensive linemen how much extra attention the rookies got after the morning coaching sessions, he chuckled and replied, "Maybe 15 minutes... not much." The rookies are being thrown into the fire, and the coaches know that if these guys truly have what it takes to be a pro, they will be able to overcome such adversity. It's the age-old Darwinian approach to coaching-- only the fittest of mind and body will survive the summer's roster cuts. |
C Walking is some sorta dance that I can't really explain. All I know is schools ban it from school dances because of it's possible "gang related" connotations. It's basicly a dude hopping around, but it's interesting to watch!
|
yeah C walking stands for "Cryp walking". Its a small dance (like) manuver done by members of the cryps and white boys who dont know any better.
|
Not really verm. Name one White Boy with enough rhythm for that!
|
That's what Ray Lewis does all the time isn't it?
|
Nah, C walk you kinda hop in the same basic area. Get out Kazaa and DL it. Or wait till mini-camp and Cpayne will be glad to demonstrate for you!
|
Hey Joe. How did my man Pat Ramsey do? I'm really rooting for him bigtime?

Ramsey looks like he never had a problem with that foot. You wouldn't know he had surgery at all. His velocity is certainly there, and his accuracy seems to be coming around. I think he'll do just fine this summer. As for whether he really has an honest shot at being the starter-- we'll just have to wait and see. I think he'll be given every bit as much opportunity to showcase his skills in training camp as Brunell will-- at least for appearance's sake-- but whether that translates to equal consideration from the coaches will probably remain a mystery, unless Ramsey completely outshines Brunell in camp and still doesn't win the starting job. |

Funny. |

Brent Barry busted out a little c-walking last year in the three point contest. He was even wearing Chuck Taylors, the shoe of choice for c-walkers everywhere. |
is there another minicamp before training camp?
|
