Who would you pick in the 2nd round?

since u guys dont think we should move up to get a guy like vernon davis, i want to know if u would rather get a WR or a DE in the 2nd and precise the name of the pick.
DE: stanley mcdougle,auburn
victor adeyanju,indiana
daryll Tapp,virginia tech
Wr: sinorice moss, miami
maurice stovall, notre dame
martin nance, miami of ohio
derek hagan, arizona state
chad jackson, florida

those guys are probably guys that will still be on the board come the 2nd round.Which one would u get or, would u rather take a pick on an other position like OT,S,TE? HAIL.

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

This draft is all about trying to give the Redskins depth in the future. I don't think we really need another WR with Patten around, and if we get one get a big boy. Rod Gardner minus drops.

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

although he probably will not be available when we pick, but I really like Jackson the WR from florida.

I never want to see another Florida WR in a Redskins uniform. Taylor Jacobs and Jacquez Green were stellar enough. It's time we gave another school a chance.

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

I think we should take Daryll Tapp in the second. Martin Nance I was told may slip to the third and if he does,I want him to be our second pick

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

I would pick S Greg Blue...most of our problems should be addressed in free agency and mid round draft picks.

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

Drafting UF players scares me but I have been watching alot of Jackson and really like him. I still think we should draft McClover with our ends getting old and he could make a big time impact. If both Jackson and McClover were there I would take McClover because I am a defense guy but I wouldn't be mad if we took Jackson. After the combine both of them might be gone by the time we pick.

ummmm, so you want to keep jacobs and antonio?, we need to compliment moss, its just that simple. but on the other hand i do like defense and i would love for us to go DE with our 1st pick.

DE- Edwards (purdue)
Wimbley (Fla St.)
Tapp (VT)
McGlover (Auburn)

WR-Stovall (ND)
Baskett (New Mexico)
Avant (Michigan)
Wilson (OK)

moss won't be there, and i think you mean mcclover not mcdougle ;)
for DE, either lawson or mcclover would be good, both are hybrid OLB/DE types though, but look promising. I'd prefer we take the best guard available though (spencer is very althletic and isn't a first rounder because he spent 2 years at DT before switching, we got coaching to help his technique and it seems like a good fit). Good Olinemen in FA are super expensive and if you look at who came in at OL and did well, only 1 of about 15 were drafted below the 3rd round.

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

CBs depend a lot on what the teams ahead of the skins need (size, speed, upside etc)... if we're lucky and jonathan joseph falls, he'd be a good pick... in the 3rd will blackmon would be good (his technique is off, but we don't need a starter right away and he's a good WR to boot). In the 5th i think gerrick mcphearson (MD) would be a steal, he's easily the fastest CB in the draft (JJ and hill are 2nd and 3rd fastest).

best pass rushers are both OLB/DE 260lb guys in lawson and mcclover (I don't think we'll have a shot at hali or williams which are easily the most well rounded DEs).

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

Heres my draft board (in no particular order. Based on who might slip to the Redskins spot. Obviously a guy like Michael Huff or D'B Fergusion would be near the top if all prospects were included. Not all of these are guys I'd consider with our first pick)

(How hes falling to the 3rd round is beyond me. This is the type of guy that should be a Redskin. (one word. Playmaker. Reminds me of Rascoe Paris except for the fact that he will play defense. Plus we might have to stick with Redskin tradition. Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

spencer actually needs some technique work since he's only played OG for two years (spent 2 years at DT), but probably the most althetic guard in the draft AND i think he's close to 340lbs (making him one of the biggest). Jean-Gilles is a better player right now, but doesn't have the speed (ie upside) of spencer... and gibbs LOVES pulling guards.

I don't think we'll have a shsot at moss, i wouldn't touch hagan (50/50 waiting to happen) and i'm not big on green... nance and lee would be alright, but don't ever expect a WR to come in and do anything his first year. moss might, hass or orr have an outside shot i guess...

I absolutely wouldn't waste a pick on an RB though. betts is fine and rock/nemo should be fine. in the 3rd there's still situational pass rushers, CBs and TEs that could get significant first year playing time compared to a #4 RB (manny white is alo a natural RB).

a late cheap QB wouldn't be a bad idea either... I originally thought we could get whitehurst (when he was projected as a 5th round pick, seems like he could have c. frye type production), his good workouts may totally change that though.

Man if Charlie got drafted by the Skins that would be crazy. I went to the same high school as Whitehurst during his senior year (my sophmore) and got to play with him for half a season. He was actually pretty quiet, but I heard he got pretty loud after he got to Clemson.

i think whitehurst is the late round qb this year that could be a low tier starter. So many people are hyping up culter, but what i've seen of him hasn't been very impressive :/ I definately don't buy the he might be the best pro crap.

I didn't know that impression was floating around. Personally I think that Leinart and Young are going to have stellar careers. I also believe in Cutler but I can also easily see his career going down the drain.

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

Regarding the drafting of a wide receiver...i wouldnt be against it...in say the 3rd round for depth. I believe that we would be more likely to make out well by drafting a tight end...cause this draft is apparently really deep at the tight end position...however i guess a future prospect at wide receiver wouldnt be too bad.

With regard to what we have already, I dont understand why so many people think that we should cut Taylor Jacobs. I understand that he hasnt done shit yet for the skins. But he has also had injury problems etc... Frankly i think considering that the coaches have said he has enormous potential that we should hold on to him. I dont think we are paying him all that much, and we could even bring in others to compete. I mean if you keep him, and he continues to suck...fine you wasted a fourth or fifth wide receiver spot on a bust....big deal. Or if he's really bad you could even cut him in preseason. But if you cut him...and he finally gets healthy, and realizes his potential the skins could really lose out.

I say hold onto him...and let him compete for a job. I dont think we really have much to lose by keeping him. Even though we should still go out and look for someone else...a la koren robinson...who could give us production and would come relatviely cheap... I guess i feel this way cause its not like jacobs is a player like lavar who would eat up a huge amount of the skins cap space. He is getting paid a reasonable salary...still on his rookie contract. So hey...lets just see what the kid has before cutting him lose, since cutting him wouldnt do much for us anyway.

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

I think we could pick up a quality WR late.....Brandon Marshall from UCF is not getting much love and I don't even know if he was invited to the combine but this man could be a steal in the late rounds. He started playing WR and then was moved to saftey his Jr. year and lead the team in tackles, then moved back to WR his Sr. year and had a 1000 yard season. He has great size and could be nasty in the red zone.

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

i agree that wasting an early pick on a WR isn't a great idea since its a bad draft for them and 95% of WRs don't make immediate impacts (and that's what everyone seems to be expecting). you can get blackmon (CB/WR) in the 3rd and get one of the 200 6'6" 4.5 guys as low as undrafted.

NFLeurope, you're right that jacobs doesn't cost us much (cutting him pre june 1st doesn't save enough money to hire a replacement, and post june 1st its about 800k if a new cba is in place). He's just been so bad though, but from the cap numbers he's the most likely to stay. On his injury problems, he's taken himself out of a lot of plays for really stupid reason and Gibbs talks up underperforming players on a regular basis, so don't buy too much into that.

you can tell nfleurope is a newbie.if i had to divide this site into percentages,i would estimate 95% or more of everyone here wants jacobs gone.he has been given his chance over and over again and for some reason ends up hurt.cannot play in this league(maybe a star in arena league)

in his defense though, without a new cba it'd cost more to replace TJ than to keep him.

Ray Lewis - ProFoortballTalk reports that the Redskins tried to make a deal with the Ravens last week for Lewis per the follow excerpt:

"The problem is that, as we hear it, the team isn't interested in trading him, except for a blockbuster deal. We mentioned on Wednesday that the Ravens turned down an offer from the Redskins. As it turns out, the offer was made just last week."

ALL PURE SPECULATION.

I checked that earlier and decided not to post because of the whole "Rumor Mill" where the article is located. Not exactly the highest grade place to get sports news.

Re: who wuld u pick in the 2nd?

I must admit, I'm still a Jacobs supporter, I don't feel he played so poorly that he warrents getting attacked like he has. When I was at the Dallas game, I saw him get good seperation from defenders. I really think he's listed as a 4th or 5th option in our offense EVEN if he comes in as the 2nd WR. We have Moss, Cooley, Portis, Sellers, and Royal all ahead of him (depending on formation). He made some good catches, but didn't put up many stats.

I'd really like to see him have more balls thrown his way before I make a decesion on how awful he is. Everyone still talks about the extremely poorly thrown ball in his direction where he didn't play defense on it. While he should have tried to do... something, Brunell was hanging the little guy out to dry.

ahem,
"I think i have a concussion"

on the raiders amazing cbs:
"One guy runs a 4.4 and the other runs a 4.2, what do you expect me to do?"

leaving the game for flu like symptoms etc

he's been a real pansy thus far to the point that he needss to prove otherwise instead of getting unlimited benefit of doubt.

Daseal, I know Jacobs is a product of your boy Spurrier but it's time to admit he looks like a bust.

I was a supporter of him too but the guy just hasn't stepped up at all. He had a golden opportunity when Patten went down and he did absolutely nothing. The guy is soft and doesn't play the way he practices.

The playoff game against Seattle was my last straw with him, on the Skins' first offensive series of the game Brunell hit him right in the chest and he dropped it. Then he took himself out of the game with a mysterious injury.

I'd love to believe the guy is still a diamond in the rough, but right now I'm off his bandwagon until he proves me wrong and I won't be surprised to see him cut.

Yea I have defended him in the past as well but I am starting to agree with Matty on this one, I think Jacobs has one shot with us, and that's if Saunders can get him going, I do believe he hasen't been utilized in our offense, I have been under the belief that it was more to do with Brunell and the play calling rather than his ability, but I am starting to lean the other way in this matter. I don't believe the coaches have given up on him quite yet, but he's on thin ice with one last opportunity to step up under Saunders.

I would too, but I'm usually not a supporter of trading future picks to draft picks today. And we'd have to trade to get him since he simply won't fall to the bottom of the second round.

However, if the CBA doesn't get extended, it might make sense to toss out conventional wisdom and trade future picks for picks in this year's draft. In an uncapped league, we would be able to rely on free agents more to fill our ranks. Accordingly, draft picks would lose some of their value for free-spending franchises such as ours.

in the future i hope you're not going to depend on free agents, cause there will be less and they'll cost more (and be older and mainly crap players too).

the only reason to toss future draft picks is if you think the union will decertify and bring the NFL to court on anti-trust issues (the draft is an illegal business practice) and the draft isn't going to exist in the future.

Louisville DE/OLB Elvis Dumervil is considerably short at 5' 11" but, I'm interested in his workout at the combine. He seems like a good fit in Greg Williams scheme (at least what he was trying to do with Chris Clemons and Arrington).

yeah, but i think lawson and mcclover would be even better at that role. They're both super fast for DEs.

Re: Who would you pick in the 2nd round?

Hey how about some love for Derrick Hagan. I know we're not suppose to fall in love with combine numbers but the guy ran a 4.42. I always considered the guy a good football player but I had heard he was slow and the last thing I wanted was a big slow guy for the Redskins. However I was wrong. He's a big fast guy and thats something the Redskins could use. Plus with this whole CBA thing looming I think we should start thinking more about drafting talent than free agents (a la New England).

Yet the guy I would pick for the Redskins if they had a first round pick would be Florida Reciever Chad Jackson. I've had the oppurtunity to see him at the senior bowl, some workout at Dolphin Stadium, and the combine and he ceases to amaze me. Guy runs a 4.3 and I've rarely seen him drop a ball. Plus I know that all pro players have above average bodies (hell even John Hall looks muscular), but this guy has an insane amount of muscle on a 6'1 frame. Think about it he's 201 pounds, which gives him 2.8 pounds per inch (it takes about 10-12 pounds to change the index by a tenth of a point). Thats boardering on middle-weight competitive bodybuilder. On top of all this he's 20 years old which means he has huge upside. Man I'm telling you if the Redskins had a first round pick this guy would be their choice. Screw Free-Agency.
