Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Well I found out who the cover athlete yesterday for Madden 2007. It is none other than number 26 for the Washington Redskins Clinton Portis. I'm praying to the gods on the no madden curse I swear.
|
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
At least Portis is getting some props. I don't believe in that curse. It's one of those "thousand qualifications" things. Like if he misses a game due to injury people will say it's the curse. However, if he breaks a leg (God forbid) or anything season-ending then I WILL believe it.

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Yeah it is nice to see him getting and the skins gettimg some respect. I never thought I would see a Redskins anytime soon at least on the cover. Now I've been trying to find confirmation online, but can't. I was in EB Games yesterday and they have him on the cover and best buy is advertising him also, so I'm pretty sure it is him, just not 100%

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
woah... alexander posts nfl records and gets the MVP and portis gets the cover? I can't complain, but it does seem a bit strange.
|
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Portis is tough as hell. All the times I've seen Alexander run, I'm like "DAMN he goes down like a ton of bricks when someone hits him." Portis has moves, has personality (which I'm sure if what gave him a leg up) and breaks tackles. Alexander had the benefit of running behind Hutchinson and Jones the entire season, with the addition of a Pro Bowl quarterback and fullback to take some pressure off of him.
Sure, Portis had a great line as well, but he actually broke some tackles and made some people miss unlike Alexander. |
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Of course if you're going strictly with stats, Alexander would have been the clear choice, but when people think of running backs I bet Portis comes to mind before Alexander. It might be just because we are Skins fans but honestly even when he broke the record, I was like, "Oh yeah, that RB from Seattle is above average. I forgot about him."

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
By the way, you got a link for this? I haven't seen it anywhere.
|
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
I've heard this rumor too but I haven't heard anything official.
I would prefer he not be on the cover simply because of the dreaded curse. Has anyone actually had a good or healthy season when on the cover? |
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
none that i can think of. i guess you can say ray lewis individual wise, but his team had a bad year after they went to the playoffs.

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
well, we're going to suck without a new cba, madden cover or not ;)
|
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Got that right. Why can't they just draft something temporary to extend the cap? Save revenue sharing arguments for later.

Because that would be the right thing to do, and why do the right thing when you can be wrong. |
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
Check this out. Gamblers have found new ways to screw their kids out of their college tuition.
Bets open on Madden cover star Online gambling house WagerWeb is taking money on next year's cover athlete for Madden 2007. We may only be through week 13 of the 17-week regular season of the NFL, but one online gambling site, WagerWeb, is already looking at next year's football games. The site is taking real-money bets on who will grace the cover of next year's Madden NFL game. The odds-on favorite is Colts QB Peyton Manning, at -200 ($200 down to win $100), followed by Bengals chucker Carson Palmer (+200--$100 down to win $200) and Seahawks touchdown machine Shaun Alexander (+400--$100 down to win $400). If that weren't enough, further money can be placed on whether the 2007 cover athlete will fall victim to the Madden cover curse and miss consecutive games due to injury next season. |
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
thats horrible, but funny at the same time.
|
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
This is just a rumor. There was a thread over at ES about it too. Basically there has been some promotional advertisements for it with Portis on the cover, but also some with Steve Smith & others. They did the same thing last year with Tom Brady during the pre-order times, then officially announced it to be D. McNabb later. I'd be very surprised if CP is actually the cover.

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
I couldn't believe in the curse but year after year... WTF the eagles sucked after the post superbowl thing and mcnabb on the cover. I like the respect but i don't like the curse
Its just a rumor any way. When was the last time we were given any respect |

I would prefer he not be on the cover simply because of the dreaded curse. Has anyone actually had a good or healthy season when on the cover?
Ray Lewis had a pretty decent season, but that's about it. It pretty much started the end of the good part of Eddie George's career. Culpepper was terrible. Faulk got hurt. Vick broke his leg. Then, Ray had a decent season, but he got hurt at the end of the year and they missed the playoffs. Most recently, there was Donovan...we all know how that turned out. |
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
I thought they might go with Steve Smith, alexander, or palmer so I know I'm really suprised with the pick of Portis if it winds up being true, but it also makes a bit of sense because of how much the media was talking about him the last month and a half of the league because of his media day personas.

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
I vote for CP on the cover, but only as Southeast Jerome!!! (He's already dead anyway, right?)

its a mock up, they have them with 5-10 players and i guess use focus groups to figure out who should be there. Brady should have been the 2006 cover guy. Alexander should probably make the 2007 cover, but lots of people hate him because of how soft he is. |
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
I think they should go back to using Madden's fat head on the cover. Maybe kids will look at it and decide to play outside instead of sitting in front of the Playstation all day and turning in that lard-ass; then it will be easier for the rest of us to get the game when it first comes out!

Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
if this is true, we're screwed
|
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
I honestly don't believe in the "Madden Curse". Everything that happened to these guys happen to other guys all of the time. Now IF they pick Clinton or whoever they pick end up getting injured in a freak Final Destination way then and only then will I believe in it. Marshall Faulk got hurt, he plays on astroturf and he's a running back it happens. Daunte had a bad season, I mean it's not like he had the All Madden team or something, plus he wasn't actually Joe Montana anyway. Vick, how many times did you think he would get hurt when he's taken down on his runs ? Ray Lewis, he was okay until the end of the season, he was gettin old too so he may twist an ankle or two ? Donovan, that was no curse, that team was doomed the second T.O. signed with them. That was no curse my friends, just bad management.
I don't care who is on the cover as long as it isn't a Cowboy, it would be hard to look at my game after that. |
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
i think it ended up being bill cowher.is this true?
i think it ended up being bill cowher.is this true?
no, that's for a new spin off called NFL Head Coach. Its a different (and seperate) game. |
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
i would hope that he actually isn't on the cover. Honestly, i don't ever want to see a redskin on the cover, just out of fear of the madden curse. Look what it did to mcnabb last year.
|
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
what about jon jansen in 2004 or culpepper tanking and shredding his leg last year? Or C palmer, or D Brees? horrible injuries happen to great/elite players all the time :(
out of the 10-15 best QBs last year, 4 had terrible injuries... those are REALLY bad odds for anyone, not just the guy on the cover. |
Re: Madden 2007 cover athlete!
TO should get the cover

I'd love to see Portis on the cover. Madden curse...that's dumb! McNabb's curse was wearing #81. Ray Lewis is getting old and plays on a bad team. Culpepper wasn't really that good. Now he's junk. John Madden used to be on the cover of the Madden games and he has done very well in his career afterwards. :) I'm still playing 2005 (updated rosters) but if CP is on 2007, I'll upgrade! |
