Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
Even though we probably will not be able to dip our hands into the free agent pool, I thought people might want to know who is being released by other teams due to salary cap considerations. They are as follows:
OFFENSE QB Jay Fiedler QB Tommy Maddox QB Tony Banks RB Mike Anderson RB Stephen Davis RB Tony Hollings OG Ron Stone C Kevin Mawae OT Jason Fabini OT Damion McIntosh OT Mike Williams OT Brad Hopkins WR Issac Bruce TE Jeb Putzier TE Boo Williams TE Mark Campbell DEFENSE DT La'Roi Glover DT Sam Adams DT Brentson Buckner DT Ted Washington DE Trevor Pryce DE Brady Smith DE/LB Kenard Lang DE/LB Peter Boulware LB Shawn Barber LB Brandon Short LB Junior Seau LB Jamie Sharper LB Na'il Diggs LB LaVar Arrington LB Chris Claiborne CB Ty Law CB Sam Madison CB Duane Starks CB Ahmad Plummer CB Eric Warfield CB Dexter McCleon CB Reggie Howard CB Andre Dyson CB Willie Williams S Lawyer Milloy S Marcus Coleman S Tebucky Jones Please add names to this thread as more players are cut. |
Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
I was picking up my kid from school out here on the left coast and on the raido a 49er FO person [don't know who it was..came in the middle] said it is not if this is going to happen but there will be no CBA come thursday midnight! He said PA and owers are to far apart on money! The cuts Thursday will be nothing that the lagues will have ever seen before! So what should we call it Black Thurday?

Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
All the players worth looking at (Boulware, Madison, Law) are all 32 going or heading towards it. I wouldn't sign a single player on this list to more than the veteran minimum.

Thanks, I added it to the list (as I will do with every new cut) so people can look at one post to see all of the significant cap cuts. |

If we somehow had the money to sign free agents, I'd give a long hard look at TEs Putzier and Williams. I'd also closely look at Plummer; he was good until he (like Springs) got the injury bug. Those guys are all pretty young. |
Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
I'm already preparing myself for the "Cut Portis, Sign Stephen Davis" threads.

Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
I love Mike Anderson,I wished we would have signed him instead of Portis when we did, nothing against portis,we would have a lot more money and champ and a draft pick.Exmarine, team player, and i thought he was a very good running back,he might be 32 but he doesnt have a lot of wear and tear, only 865 carries for his career,Portis has 1258 already
|
Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
he means Marcus Coleman-safety, not Marco Coleman-DE
I think Jeb could be a potential bargain upgrade. Does anyone know if he can block? |

I really don't think Champ would have been here even if we had Anderson. Champ didn't wanted to stay! |

Do we really need TEs? I for one like our current group. |
Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
Do we really need TEs? I for one like our current group.
I think a good tight end could do wonders for our offense and compensate for our lack of depth at WR. What I particularly love about tight ends is their versatility. Tight ends can help in the running game, pass protection, red zone, and receiving in general. They are particularly valuable in a run-first offense, give coordinators more permutations in the playbook to work with than receivers, and increase an offense's unpredictability. As you can see, I'm a little biased. But I am particularly emphatic about getting tight-ends right now; they're cheap and we need cap room and they're available in this deep TE draft pool (whereas a starting-caliber WR will not be). Plus, our current group isn't all that deep. Sellers is more of a fullback than tight end. Royal is decent, but not a quality starter. Johnson is an unknown quantity. And I can't really speak to Kozlowski. So, what would happen if Cooley went down? Our offense would be struggling big time. |
Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
ill have mike williams, offensive tackle. 26 years old, former 4th overall pick or something top 5. he is a solid player already, bugel could take him to the next level
|
Take A LOOK At WHo COULD BE CUT TODAY!!!
Wow take a look at this.....[foxsports] http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5372466 [/foxsports]. You get a Idea what might happen thursday. Or maybe I should say to who the cap will hit!!!

Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
Does anyone know what T. Prices status is. Like are the Broncos expecting him to return?

What? Williams was relegated to second string after two years. Man, if a top 5 pick is getting cut before his first contract expires he has got some serious problems. |

we run a lot of two TE sets and right now we have cooley and johnson (who in his firt year had one catch for 4 yards). royal isn't under contract and probably won't be back without a new cba. |

yeah. i'm surpried charles rodgers hasn't been shown the door yet. his contract is absolutely awful and he's worthless. sometimes you just get a bust though i guess. |

he's been cut and the broncos are still over the cap right now, so without a new cba, i doubt it. |

u dont think he has talent that bugel could work with? |
Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
u dont think he has talent that bugel could work with?
bugel isn't superman, he's a good OL coach. Some players just flat out suck. otherwise i'd be first in line to give it a shot. cross-sports example: Kwame Brown was taken #1 overall. But his stats indicate he should be bounced from the league immediately. just causse a guy is taken high doesn't mean he'll be any good. Ryan Leaf et al. |
Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
We once drafted a dude named Wally Kleine out of Notre Dame back in the late '80s. He was an offensive tackle taken in the second round and was 6'9" 320 lbs (a real monster back in those days). But he never started and he ended up staying with us for only a few years before getting out of football altogether. I think Bugel was the o-line coach back in those days, but he couldn't get Kleine to measure up to his potential. I'm not saying Bugel isn't a good coach, but a player must have the motivation, character, and work ethic to improve before a coach can fix his problems. That might be the problem with Mike Williams from the Bills.

Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
Sportscenter just threw up a list of potential salary cap casualties. At the tope of the list were Derrick Brooks and Simeon Rice. Also, Billy Volek and a couple other names I recognized, but can't remember right now.

Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
yeah but mike williams is a character guy that gibbs would probably like, he is a personality to say the least. if the contract was cheap id love to have him here for depth

i remember kleine well... you could also add andre johnson to the list. lasted barely 2 season with the skins despite being a first round pick.. you need feet to be a good lineman, not just size |

Re: Recent League Salary Cap Cuts
I don't know if this has been brought up, but are teams being perhaps too hasty in cutting players? I mean you cut a guy like Will Shields thinking you have to because there's no CBA in place. But then what if a deal is reached?
