The AP reported that this morning that after a 57 minute metting the Owners vote to turn down the players and union last offer. The League will have a news conference in a few hours to let the teams know what the Cap will be for 06 season. It was said to be between 10 and 15 million over last years! Well it over boys!!! If you need to see it yourself go to Yahoo sports!

We are cooked...if they need to cut the 10 to 15 players as is being reported then next season is over already.

we need info on the restructures. brunell saves 1.8mill, which is good, but that only keeps a total of 16 current players on the team. I don't think we'll know about that info until after cut are announced though.

AP is reporting that NFL commis Paul [I am out of here]Tegliabue is expected to have a news conference in a hour!

If we're cooked, it's because Snyder is a dolt.

I am not so sure about being cooked! Gibbs has a plan and we just don't know it! Look at the Burnell thing of a day ago! I believe if we keep our heads like Gibbs seems to be we will come out of this better off in the end!

It might be just "phrasing", but the reports suggest Brunell "AND OTHERS" have re-structured. I hope it's a whole S...load of others!

Lets keep our heads up!!! If you had to pick a coaching staff to handle something like this, it would be ours. Thank God no cap on staff.

Well at least we will not be in cap hell in 07!!!! That is the bright side!

Re: Owners Break Off Talks!!!!!

I saw Jon Jansen and Randy Thomas listed in one of the WP articles as possible cuts. If the skins are forced to rip apart their OL then this is going to have a long term affect on the team....more than just 2006. It takes a long time to gel a line together...

BigSKINBauer 03-02-2006 12:24 PM

Randy thomas is my favorite player :( . My friend brought in the post article to show me that he might be gone.

One thing we can all say......there is going to be a lot going on at Redskins park till 7pm Est!!!

That Guy 03-02-2006 12:43 PM

Re: Owners Break Off Talks!!!!!

right now there are only 13 players gauranteed to be here tomorrow. Thomas is one of them:

Chris Cooley
Taylor Jacobs
Manuel White Jr.
Mark Brunell
Cornelius Griffin
Randy Thomas
LaVar Arrington
Shawn Springs
Clinton Portis
Jason Campbell
Sean Taylor
Santana Moss
Carlos Rogers

jansen has a high base salary and samuels has a big bonus and a very low number (300k vs 500k+ so replacing him with a rookie only saves 65k). the bonus and high base mean they're prime candidates to restructure and stay/keep the skins from dumping others.

While brunell would have to give back 650k next year to give back 500k this year, jansen has a much lower 2007 salary (well under the max of 2006 pay + 30%), so he has to give up less total money and therefore his savings from salary -> bonus conversions would be greater than brunells, and he'd have to give up far less actually money to give the skins similar cap relief.

Re: Owners Break Off Talks!!!!!

The owners voted unanamously to reject the union proposal, so I don't think it's just Snyder who's a dolt here.

As for the "plan" I figure we restructure what we can, cut who we have to, and buy a new team in 07. Don't know what else we can really do here.

But will there be a strike down the road? Isn't that implied? If the owners set the cap and profit sharing wherever they please, the players will feel thaty have no recourse but to strike. On the bright side, we are the best team in history in strike years ;).

the owners would lock the players out to force them to take a new cap system, not the other way around. the players would decertify to prevent a lockout and immediately go to anti-trust court.

The union has said there is no way they will ever accept a salary cap again. Its going to be really interesting to see how this shakes out.

i still not sure this is over yet.the owners are now forcing the union to make the call.the sticking point is the revenue sharing at 60% to the players(the unions stance)compared to 56%(the owners stance)i think if that number moved to 58%,the deal gets done.ill guess we wil see.it seems like it would be in the best interest of the union ,long term,to agree to this

Hey, I'm no subway farter!

Is there anyway Danny Boy could pay off Gene Upshaw to get this thing worked out tonight? I'm sure the man could use a new house or two.

Upshaw's response to the owners' decision to reject the NFLPA's agreement isn't comforting. Upshaw basically said there isn't going to be an extension. He didn't appear to leave open even a small possibility that a deal will be reached. It could be posturing, but that would be strange given we are hours away from the start of the 2006 NFL season.

Re: Owners Break Off Talks!!!!!

The owners want the players to take a pay-cut of roughly 9 percent. I wouldn't do it, and one shouldn't honestly expect them to. Going from 65% of the revenue to 56% is total horse shit.

Greedy is a sin for a reason.

But the thing to remember is that the players are asking for the definition of revenue be broadly expanded. I'm not saying I disagree with your position that the owners are being greedy, but there are two sides to the story.

Re: Owners Break Off Talks!!!!!

I think you need to check your facts.

The 56.2%/60%+ discussion involved a major increase in the formula that would be used to calculate total revenues. So much so that the impact on the cap would actually be an astronomical increase.

Upshaw actually turned down a gigantic pay raise for all of his players.

Make no mistake about it, Upshaw has seriously screwed large numbers of players. Those players include:

Players eligible for FA in 2K6
Players released on "Bloody Thursday"
Players that would have been eligible as FA's in 2K7 and 2K8 who will not be.
Rookies in 2K6
Then there is this quote from Jay Glazer (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5374588):
Several players have called FOXSports.com today to voice concern over not having enough information as to why they are stalemated. While the players may agree with Upshaw's stance, several have claimed they simply do not feel in the loop, including several player reps. Upshaw's executive committee has been kept in the fold with regards to the dealings.

56% of 2000 is more than 65% of 1000

the general premise was that more revenue was going into the pot, and even at a smaller %, much more would be going straight to the players.

he thinks they'll be better in the long run, but he's left a lot of reps out of the loop and a whole bunch of guys are about to get super pissed.

if i were a draftee this year, a player that gets dumped, or a player that didn't get resigned because of this, I'd be out for his head tonight.

The problem is this unions memberss don't work for 30 or 40 years. They're temporary, and a 1 year flux can totally screw up 100 careers permenantly.

dmek25 03-02-2006 04:52 PM

Re: Owners Break Off Talks!!!!!

the bottom line here is that gene upshaw is actually employed by the PLAYERS and any major decisions should be left up to a vote.he,right now,is basically a dictator with all the players caught up in his trance.if the players want an extension, all the rank and file has to do is call for a vote

Upshaw is playing a game he CAN NOT WIN!!! He should have taken the deal. It was a big gain for the PA. Now here is what is going to happen. He Must disband the union so the owners can't lock them out at some point. He lose that war if he dosen't because the owners will get replacement players all over again. My question if he decertifys what dose that do to the PA good or bad?
