Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
I was in my car and listening to sports talk 980, the local station for sports in dc. On there Lavar was getting interviewed by John Thompson. He said that he is going to pursue a contract with a team in the NFC east so that he can play in Washington once a year, because he loves it here so much. Ugh!!! Does this mean Lavar will be the NFL's version of Johny Damon switching from the skins to the boys? Where do you guy's think he will go and if it is a NFC East team who would you rather it be: Dallas, NY, or Philly?

I think the Eagles are probably the best fit. They need some LBs and he could be a playmaker in that D. I have no idea where I would prefer he go. I would rather he just stayed in Washington, but it's a little late to think like that. As for comparing him to Johnny Damon, I guess it's close, but Johnny Damon was a free agent. LaVar got cut. No matter the terms, LaVar got cut. I don't know if it's really the same situation. Whatever the case, it'll be interesting to see what he does to us if he goes to the NFC East. |
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
This guy is going to go anywhere that gives him money... He could care less about the color jersey he wears... If he's not with me... He's against me!

Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
I'd love to just see him go to SD. Get him out of the NFC.
|
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
It will be Lavar's 7th year in the league. He will probably get overpaid and then get hurt and we will never face him, no matter what teams he ends up on.
That's my prediction, and I love the guy! |

That makes me sick! I don't buy that BS that he wants to be in the NFC so that he can play in DC because he loves it here; he wants to play in the NFCE so that he can (try to) stick it to the team for "not wanting him" anymore. Pierce basically said the same thing last year. I know the team asked a lot of LaVar lately, but I've lost a great deal of respect for him. He claims to love it here, well he could have worked something else out besides this. I hope he goes and plays for the AFC west or something so that he hardly have to hear from or about him. As far as him playing within the division, I hope goes to philly so that he can see what a fickle franchise is really like. The fans will spit on him the first time he misses a tackle because he was going for the KO. ps - I'm not bitter or anything... |
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
they shouldn't take shawne's number away if he goes to diego.
I see him going to the eagles, giants, San diego, minni, browns, pittsburg, or miami. |
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
One Giants player said yesterday that middle linebacker Antonio Pierce has begun making a big push for the team to sign Arrington, his former teammate with the Redskins.

I doubt that, in a perfect world LA would still be a Redskin. And I also doubt it's all about the money for him. But what's done is done, and he's gone. |
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
I hate antonio pierce and champ. They both never shut the **** up. I know antonio has done nothing wrong... yet involving lavar but if Lavar ever ends up talking shit about the skins like bailey and antonio i will be more hurt than pissed.

Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
I think the leading candidates will be (in no particular order)-Giants, Eagles, Vikings, Browns
But when all is said and done I'm predicting he goes to the Ravens I'm not sure I'd compare him to Johnny Damon though if he went to the Cowboys. I don't think it would have been as big a deal if not for the fact that, just two years ago, Damon was instrumental in getting the Yankees monkey off the Red Sox nation back and getting them their first WS title in 88 years. LaVar is not in the same situation |
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
I think its kind of strang that we have not heard any comments from any Skins players. I know they are at home but it would seem that someone would have been asked something by now.

Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
Yeah right he just loves it so much here. If he loved it so much why wouldnt he want to play at Fed Ex 8++ times a year. The truth is he is scared that he would not play much next year. We had a top 5 defense without him for 2 years. We will continue to to do it without him. In the past 2 years he only had about one good game for us in his game at Tampa. Go to Dallas it would make me hate the Cowgirls even more.

Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
I love Lavar to death. I have a feeling no one in the NFC East is gonna give him the money he wants.
MAybe the Eagles but they are fiscally conservative and there troubles lie more on the offensive side of the ball. The Giants aren't a great fit. I just don't think Coughlin will want an injury prone mega million dollar contract hanging around. Lavar playing for Dallas is sacriledge. I hope he goes out to pasture in the AFC somewhere. |

Actually we had a top 5 defense and then a top 10 defense, however, our D really started to step it up after LaVar and Griffin got back into the lineup. They were horrid against KC and Denver when they were out of the lineup. This team was much better in the lineup last year. So I don't think that it was all necessarily without him. |
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
But also where did the Giants get all this cap room all-of-a-sudden? They have loads of Pro Bowlers and you'd think their salaries would be a tad on the high side.

News articles say the Giants don't have the cap room to sign him now, but with an extension they would have the room to sign him. The Iggles have plenty of room to sign him and then some. |
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
If the Giants got him, that would basically end their free agent shopping for the year. They're going to need to find a replacement for Will "Powdered Toast Man" Allen as well.
Eagles are cheap asses, even though I did see they'd have plenty of money. |

Gibbs + Williams are Hall of fame coaches but they do what they want because they can. He barely started in front of Holdman which is a red flag right there. The two sides just couldn't co-exist and as I recall Lavar, minus one outburst, was calm despite extreme frustration (imagine you are the redskins fans' idol... 3 time probowler, back to health and ready to take the team to a super bowl and Warrick Holdman starts over you). He wanted to give cap room to help the team he loves, yet still start and prolong his career in the NFL, and he knew this was the only way. Godspeed Lavar... shame on the redskins. |
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
I wouldn't go so far as to say shame on the Redskins. Let's all remember the team made the playoffs and finished the season 11-7. I'll cheer LaVar on (unless he goes to Dallas in which case he'll be my most hated athlete of any sport of all time). Williams and Gibbs know what they are doing.
Are they infallible? No, but the LaVar situation was one of those things that if he stayed would just be a lose-lose, just as you mentioned, like the Ramsey situation. |

Things that I think when they leave. I start to think that maybe it's not the players, but the organization who does people wrong. Like I said the LaVar situation happened the same way as the Brad Johnson and Stephen Davis situations did before, so I don't think that much has changed. |

They made the situation personal as the drama started suspiciously after the whole contract dispute incident (if theres a problem w/ buisness... it should stay buisness). It seems to me that a player of his caliber should be on the field more frequently then he was...regardless.... I just find it hard to believe it was ever about his talent or his contributions to the team on the field. I blame the redskins for making it the lose/lose situation that eventually resulted. If it was a legitimate talent issue... then I'll shut up, but I simply don't believe it was. If he puts on silver and blue... god help him |

I recall when B.Mitch left here, he was saddled with the same desire, went to the Eagles, Giants, and came back here to retire. We did a good job on him with both teams. So all this talk about LaVar in the NFC east doing this and that is CRAP. Personally I hope he does go to an NFC east team so we can use him up at least twice a year. |
Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
But you have to know there is more to it than that. There's personality types, there's the message you send to the rest of the team. Someone had to have an example made of them and unfortunately he was the one.

Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
The one thing Gibbs has stressed, both now and in the past, is that NO ONE is above the team. Come on, folks--who was the one guy guaranteed to say something negative and embarrasing during the season, for the last two years. I know he's been hurt, and that he has been (and may well still be) a probowl player, but he was never on the same page as everyone else. His comments when Gibbs arrived were "Well, I'll wait and see..." And that nonesense with the Postons? This guy has been a headache for Gibbs. And he has the biggest salary at a time when we are facing serious troubles with the CBA and all. 11-12 players volunteered to restructure. What did Lavar do?
I loved the guy when he stormed into the backfield and when he created TOs, but this is Gibbs' team, not Lavar's. He had become a distraction, a non-team guy, and we despreately needed the cap help. Too many factors came together on this one. And, in the end, Gibbs gave him a choice--restructre or go. It's not like they said, "Hit the road, punk." I realize that I don't know what the skins were offering, but the opition at least was there to stay. He didn't take it. He's gone. Hope he doesn't end up in the East, but if he does, we'll be ready for him. Lots of teams end up with situations like this--it happens in today's sports. |

"The 27-year old recently agreed to a buyout of his contract with the Redskins, instead of waiting until June to be released. In a radio interview in Washington yesterday, Arrington said he wants to stay in the NFC East, but would prefer not to play for the Cowboys, leaving the Eagles and Giants as potential destinations."- Scouts Inc, ESPN Insider...
That says something. Any guy who ever considered himself a "true Redskin" would still have that "anyone but Dallas" mindset. I wish him the best... |

Re: Lavar's Statement (cut so deep)
I think the best thing that could happen would be him going to a team in the east but it won't be Philly. Philly runs a defense like Williams, the sum is much greater than the parts. Also, the Philly D is based on discipline and Lavar showed this year that he can function in a disciplined system but he cannot thrive. I would just line up Cooley on his side and watch Cooley score touchdowns on Lavar like Shockey (and any other pro bowl tight end). How come it was the Grim Reaper who had all of the big plays against the tight ends and not Lavar?

That's what i've noticed as well about him being classy. I think the media made it worse by making it an issue like they always do. I hate how skins fans are so quick to so good riddance. HE KILLED TROY AIKMAN. It was in the film room i watched it so many times i still see aikman w/ his head down getting patted on the back and he looks up as if to say i'm dying.
