Kitna to visit the Jets next week. Patrick will visit Detroit.

Great idea collecting Ramsey stuff into one thread... I think I'll start four threads praising you for it.

He has Ramsey heading for a visit with the Dolphins next week.

I would think that the Dophins are under the gun to make a quick decision on expensive D. Brees in order to plan their FA strategy. If they pass on him, Ramsey not Culpepper is the safe bet.

Furthermore, Ramsey can sweeten the deal by signing an extension with a team that has some weapons.

A measley 7th rounder? He's worth less than Gardner? They've got to be joking.

To the Patriots, who weren't even going to spriing for the Pepsi. They were just going to give us leavings from "the machine".

Do you think the cost is higher then that 5th pick that is being reported? Along with a pick next season.

Rumors from a couple of different sources have Pat visiting Detroit and Miami next week.

Brees rumored to be pursued hard by the Saints and Dolphins. Speculation about $8 -10 mil a year for a soft-armed QB coming off a shoulder surgery doesn't sound realistic to me, but who knows?

Miami might be a trade partner for a one-year deal (the final year of Ramsey's contract) as insurance even if they sign Brees. If Brees can't go in 2006, Ramsey would have a chance to showcase his talent working with an offense that has some weapons.

All teams have become secretive and sometimes leak false rumors, so it's nearly impossible to know who they really want. Josh McCown and Ramsey are the only two bargain-priced with an upside if someone needs a starter and doesn't like their chances in the draft.

Ramsey may wanted to take another look at the Redskins for the 06 season. But I am sure he see that Campbell is a star rising. Have heard nothing about the Jets and Ramsey or Collins taking over his spot as well.

There's no telling what Ramsey thinks of Campbell's ability but he has a pretty good idea what Joe Gibbs thinks of Campbell's ability.

But there's no doubt that he'd like a fair shot at operating the Saunders' offense with a three-wide set. The best he ever got was Coles and Gardner.

he lead the league in passing with coles for 4 or 5 games, then coles lost a toe, refused surgery, ruined his fingers and started dropping balls,, and well... you know, he wasn't the amazing WR we signed anymore.

I was kind of hoping that P Ram would end up in New Orleans, as he's from the area and even his decision making would look like Einstein compared with Aaron Brooks. But it looks like it's going to be Brees in N.O.

Brees was in Miami today for a visit.

Do you think that Ramsey would want to be in New Orleans?

Looking at it purely from his point of view, he's looking for the best supporting cast he can find. Assuming Brees doesn't re-sign, I'm thinking San Diego, where he's up against a virtual rookie in Rivers and Feely who doesn't look like much.

Other possibilities are Arizona (Warner) and Minnesota (Brad Johnson) teams which are both improving in free agency and don't have their franchise QB.

Even with Rivers being a virtual rookie, they have so much money invested in him that it's set in stone that he will be starting this year. Warner also just signed a big contract and in Minnesota, the only talk of Ramsey was as a potential backup to Johnson. I agree that he'll want a supporting cast, but I think he's probably more interested in a guaranteed starting job.

You could be right but I think it depends on his confidence level and how much of a challenge he's willing to take on. The GM at San Diego doesn't have the same juice as Joe Gibbs. Marty won't give a rat's ass how much is invested in rivers. He'll play the guy who will give him the best chance to win a Super Bowl...something he's never done.

Warner and Johnson aren't big time QBs. If Patrick can't take the job, fine. But my bet is he wants a fair shot with a team that has a decent supporting cast to prove to himself and others that he has what it takes to be a top tier NFL QB.

With a trade for Ramsey to the Jets what to we get in return?
Abraham? and we give up a pick? Don't understand why they're interested with Pennington resigned. Any ideas what we receive in compensation?

Deal with Ramsey will be done soon with someone, just hope we get a good player outta it.

A persistent rumor had Denver offering a number one draft pick (the 29th) for Abraham. If true, the Jets will be comparing other offers to that one.

Ramsey is in the final year of his contract. Let's say that the Jets might be willing to part with a fourth round pick for him if Abraham was NOT involved. That means we'd have to somehow make up the difference between the 29th pick and their fourth.

This is a new Jets coaching regime. They have no history with Pennington nor can they count on his arm strength which was weak before two surgeries.

A trade like this would involve both Abraham and Ramsey signing new contracts.

Sure, Taylor Jacobs might be part of the deal.

Monday...QB Musical Chairs

Kitna and McCown visited the Lions over the weekend. No mention of a visit by Ramsey although he has Skins' permission for one.

ESPN rumors Jets interested in Kitna and Ramsey. Skins' signing of Andre Carter may mean that trade with Jets didn't work out (They wouldn't sign both Abraham and Carter...would they?).

ESPN rumors Dolphins and Jets interested in Patrick. Dolphins and Brees still negotiating. If they sign Brees, Gus is still on their roster as a backup. Ramsey hasn't visited Miami yet.

Why would we pay his 1.8 against the cap when he's going to be a third string for us?

Gibbs wants Patrick out. We clear needed room by losing him and picking up Todd Collins for our third stringer behind Mark and then Jason this year.

That Guy 03-13-2006 10:05 PM

Re: Ramsey Rumor Thread

jets, dolphins, lions, saints, raiders in that order of interest i guess.

dolphins are probably playing for brees or culpepper though, and the saints really made a good offer for brees. the raiders might go for culpepper too. so i think the dolphins make a choice and the leftover goes to one of the other two depending on who it is.
miami must like brees more though since he's the more likely of the two to be playing when the season starts.

that means jets and lions are better bets (unless the phins pull back and decide an injury question mark on QB isn't worth it).

Monksdown 03-13-2006 10:07 PM

Re: Ramsey Rumor Thread

I wanted to think that Patrick was knee deep in a JA trade. After Carter, Im fairly convinced that JA's compensation made that impossible, and that Patrick is being just traded for a late draft pick this year and maybe a slightly better one next year based on performance.
