Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....

He will likely visit the 49ers team facility on Sunday. Bryant spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns and was drafted in 2002 by the Dallas Cowboys. Known throughout his career as a troubled player, Nolan and the team may be willing to take a risk on him. Statistically, last season was his best year when he amassed 1009 yards receiving on 69 catches with 4 touchdowns. Bryant may be able to improve a weak 49ers receiving group. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the team is interested in Antwaan Randle El. Randle El has spent the past 4 seasons in Pittsburgh and has 2012 total career yards and 7 touchdowns on 162 catches. The team is also interested in acquiring another Pittsburgh Steeler, safety Chris Hope. According to the Boston Herald, the San Francisco 49ers have spoken with wide receiver David Givens' agent regarding the possible signing of the former New England Patriot. Givens is also in Santa Clara and may visit the team Sunday. Givens' best statistical year was 2004 where he amassed 874 yards on 56 catches (15.6 YPC) and 3 touchdowns. Last season he had 738 yards on 59 catches (12.5 YPC) and 2 touchdowns. This would help the team since they traded wide receiver Brandon Lloyd today to the Washington Redskins. The 49ers received a 3rd round pick in 2006 and a 4th round pick in 2007. Lloyd has angered many players on the 49ers. The following is from the San Francisco Chronicle: Defensive players particularly found him unsavory and a few of the defensive leaders, during a meeting between Nolan and selected veterans, told Nolan the locker room would be better off without Lloyd. Lloyd also alienated teammates when he refused to take any blame after backing off a pass at the goal line in the 17-9 loss to the Bears in Chicago in November. Lloyd repeatedly said quarterback Cody Pickett "threw the ball too early." The 49ers had also hoped to sign former Seattle Seahawks receiver Joe Jurevicius. However, he signed with Cleveland today. The Redskins are also pursuing 49ers linebacker Andre Carter and he visited with the team today. Word is that the Redskins may be close to a deal with Carter and that he spent today with the team owner and other available free agents. While the Redskins have admitted to be interested in linebacker Julian Peterson as well, according to the Washington Post, they have stated that they will not be a major player in the race to sign the free agent. Re: Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....
NO 9erman. You already have done enough damage for the day by making me doubt our new boy Lloyd. Now your scaring me into thinking maybe our backup option (Givens) if the Randle El deal doesn't fall through won't work.

Re: Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....
We could be replacing Lloyd with Givens and Bryant......:)

NOOO!!! Only if we don't get Randle El. Then you can have them. As a matter of fact you can have Bryant. I started a 5 page thread on him and I got the impression the rest of the forum didn't like him. Who the hell is Cody Picket?
49ers QB is Cody Pickett and they call their WR corp weak? 9erman, your QB is even weaker! |

Alex Smith Ken Dorsey |
Re: Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....
Not much experience there. Maybe an experienced #3 is what you guys need to show your young guys the ropes. Who is the mentor out of those two? Mike Nolan?

We are supposed to be looking for a experienced backup to Smith. We would have a major upgrade at WR if these guys sign. I read earlier that the only players Nolan would visit were those that already agreed to terms. |

Hey man you gotta be more understanding. Remember the 90's (AFTER 92). Now how much fun was it watching Heath Schuler get trampled and Westbrook droping passes. The 49ers are going through the same thing and we should be able to relate. I did not lose a leg in Vietnam to watch us fight each other |
Re: Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....
both could help you, but there's a lot of guys that could help the 49ers right now. this really isn't the year to go for WRs though. bryants the best bet as far as talent, he's a bit of a twat though.

Texans | Givens cancels visit; reports say he re-signed with New England
Sat, 11 Mar 2006 23:12:28 -0800 John McClain, of the Houston Chronicle, reports free agent WR David Givens (Patriots) has canceled his visit with the Houston Texans Sunday, March 12. Reports out of New England late Saturday evening, March 11, were that Givens had decided to re-sign with the New England Patriots. striking early was good for us, looks like the WR market is down two already with only 2 noteables (and TO) left. |

Good point, That Guy. Hey, maybe SF can pick up TO, he'd be a good fit out there, right?:) |

Patriots | Givens has not re-signed
Sun, 12 Mar 2006 06:43:47 -0800 <A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/164">Mike Reiss, of the Boston Globe, reports agent Brad Blank said a Houston Chronicle report saying free agent WR David Givens (Patriots) has re-signed with the New England Patriots was erroneous. Blank said "anything is possible" at this stage. This is the second erroneous report this weekend involving a Givens signing. |
Re: Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....
The Niners chasing free agent wide recievers is like rearranging deck chairs on the titanic there are far more pressing needs for them right now than wideouts. Like offensive linemen, running backs, and maybe a secondary.
In the unlikely even that you get Givens to go to san fran what would have changed other than an upgrade at wide out. San fran should be looking at offensive linemen and secondary positions right now and a running back in the draft. Wideouts are a luxury. |

Re: Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....
I think those two guys would be a great pick up for the 9ers.
Lindell White will most likely be a their guy at 6. And that is a helluva back for Norval to work with. Everywhere Norv goes he makes a RB the star of his offense. I'm sure they have some olineman on their radar. |

If we were to pick a HB it would be DeAngelo Williams who is both Norv and Nolan's favorite. But we have Frank Gore/Hicks/Barlow at HB and thus have no need to spend that high of a pick at HB. I project Vernon Davis at #6 to SF 1. HOU Bush 2. NO Leinart (BAD PICK) 3. TEN Young 4. NYJ Ferguson 5. GB Hawk 6. SF Davis 7. OAK M.Williams 8. BUF Ngata 9. DET Cutler 10. ARI D.Williams PS any o-lineman brought on would be purely in a backup role...our starters for the record will be LT Jennings LG Smiley(2nd rd 04)/Heitman C Heitman/Newberry (injury ?) RG Baas(2nd rd 05) RT Snyder(3rd rd05) |

Re: Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....
White is soooooo far off the 9ers radar that is not even funny. I guess you guys know more about the skins need then me too......
|
Re: Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....
I agree you have a ton of running backs.
I guess Norv has turned some no names backs into stars, but I think White would be the second coming of Stephen Davis, only faster and more complete. He would be a perfict fit over 5'9" midget Williams. LenDale is a tank, and both run a 4.5, this just seems like a no brainer. |

So who are the niners going after? Norv needs a running back or his offense serves as a punting machine. |

Barlow is 240lbs easy and ran a 4.3 at the combine a few years ago. We also have another 1,000 capable back in Gore. There is no way we invest that much $$ into the HB spot...That and I think that White is the #5 RB in the draft. 1. Williams 2. Bush 3. Addai 4. Maroney 5. White |
Re: Givens and Bryant in Santa Clara....
I don't believe Lindale White is the 5th best running back in the draft and there is no way he will be drafted in that order. Absolutely wrong.

The ranking I have supplied are what I think will be the level of production at the next level. NOT THE EXPECTED DRAFT ORDER. You are right about the draft order........Keep in mind that I have seen 100's of more hours of film of these guys than you have. White is higher on some teams board than others...Some have him at #2 and some like speed and have him at #5. White ran behing the best o-line in the country by far and is not nearly as quick as stephen davis was coming out. Bush is #2 because IMO he will not be the type of back that carries a team without talent. He could be an amazing talent in the right fit. DeAngelo Williams ran behind a terrible line in college and was the 3rd most productive back IN NCAA HISTORY. His team had no qb, no wr, no defense either. He alone managed to carry that squad to 4 bowl games. He has better football speed than all but Bush and has the ability to make YAC consistantly. He is in the mold of LaDanian Tomlinson and should produce at that level in the NFL. All 4 other backs in the draft have questions that need to be answered IMO. |

1. Williams 2. Bush 3. Addai 4. Maroney 5. White
I think White will be the second back taken, and he will be taken top ten. As for all of your running backs and worry about investing in a high draft choice for a running back I agree with you. Norv has had good luck with running backs no matter their size, I just think he wants a bulldozer. Emmitt Smith - Height: 5' 9'' Weight: 212 Terry Allen - Height: 5' 11'' Weight: 208 Stephen Davis - Height: 6' 0" Weight: 230 LaDainian Tomlinson - Height: 5' 10" Weight: 221 Ricky Williams - Height: 5' 10" Weight: 230 LaMont Jordan - Height: 5' 10" Weight 230 ---- Kevan Barlow Height: 6' 1" Weight: 238 If your offensive line is as set as you say it is, Barlow could be an awesome back in Norv's system. Be prepared for a lot of 3 - 4 yard boring running plays. |

He's the best all around back, but i don't think he'll ever be an elite back. I think SF would be stupid to take an RB 6 though. the current rbs you got don't seem to be amazing, but anyone thinking that's your most pressing needs to watch the 49ers play ;) I think the best FA move you could make is getting a QB like culpepper (cause he's cheap) and in case alex is still amazingly awful next year, there's a chance daunte will be able to get his old form back. (the vikings overplayed their hand and are now going to get nearly nothing for him) in the 2nd round both m drew and l washington will be available and both would still be upgrades (i believe they're vastly under rated). I don't think leinhart is a mistake, he's probably closer to a drew brees than a tom brady though. he's clearly the best pick to come in and make a difference now. If anything Young is the mistake cause he's never worked out of a 3 step drop, he runs too fast and he only checks two routes. He's not as fast as vick, though he fumbles less and he'll probably be a better passer, but he has the chance to be good or flame out and be another NFL QB curiosity. davis would be a great pick for you there. he's the best WR on the board :P a lot of pundits think since you have johnson you don't need a TE, BUT, this is a 6'3" guy running a 4.38, and for a WR those are GREAT numbers, so it'd be crazy to not have him at the top of both the TE and WR depth chart this year. |
