do the skins always get their man?

do the washington redskins(in the dan snyder era)always get the free agents and other players they want?it seems like the players earmarked by the skins as "must haves" always end up in washington.can anyone remember a player that was coveted by the skins that ended up elsewhere?

We seem better at signing then at re-signing--Pierce and Smoot would be the ones that leap to mind...

But when we really target someone, we are pretty good.

We wanted Jevon Kearse a couple years back as well.

No, but you might try Dog, The Bounty Hunter!

We don't get every single one, but enough to look as if we are making an effort.

This was all up in the air two weeks ago. We could not get under the Old Cap very easily, and we had no wiggle room to acquire new FAs. The new CBA has helped us tremendously this year in making strides in the FA market.

you would have thought holdman would be better than worthless after all those 80 tackles seasons.

I might be the only one here, but I'm pretty satisfied with getting Carter. Yeah, Kearse would have been nice, but his sacks and tackles have tailed off a bit the past couple of seasons in Philly (plus he's been nicked up). But Courtney Brown? The dude is nothing but hurt all the time and his best season was 2003 with 6 sacks (4 FF and 30 tackles). That's neither big money nor big interest talent in my book. At least Carter has had a double digit (13) sack season from a LB position.

that was from the DE position. he only played LB last year and wasn't very good at it (just not fast enough) where he only had 2.5 sacks.

Okay. That sounds right. I was thinking that 13 from a LB sounded awfully good.

They inquired about Kearse but they did not want to pay him what Philly paid.

Bruce was signed before free agency.

They didn't offer him a lot of money.

They chose to let them go. Looking back it was a good move. Smoot is almost as overrated as Lavar and Pierce isn't that much better than Marshall.

he was released and on the open market though and the skins made a serious bid for him.

arrington has gotten 11 (though he was a sub rusher of sorts) and peter boulware (ravens) averaged 10 a year as a LB for his first 7 years (including years with 11.5, 10, and 15 sacks). It's possible.

Looks like Detroit was the most interested and Bruce is exactly the type of guy that Washington ignored this year.

they didn't ignore bruce though, i think they might have even thought they had him with larry micheals "big announcement tomorrow" statement on his show (that never actually happened... it was a day or two before FA started).

turns out bruce got tons of money and it was a decent non signing.

Yeah, but can you imagine Pierce, Marshall, and Washington all playing at the same time?

Oh wait...that was 2004.

They played better together than our core of LB'S last year but keep in mind that opponents had a whole offseason to prepare and find weakness's in GW scheme and not to mention we played far better offenses in 05 than 04. Our D is still a beast no matter what anyone says though. Lets just get a capable ROLB inked or drafted.
