Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
Here's the link to the Article, which is more about workout in general than FA stuff:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/03/29/AR2006032902258.html The club still is roughly $4.4 million under the salary cap, but could also still look for a linebacker. Representatives for former Philadelphia linebacker Keith Adams and former Detroit linebacker Nate Wayne were contacted in recent weeks, but little movement appears to have taken place concerning either. |
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
Personally I'm more for drafting some young talent. Quite a few of the young linebackers in last year's draft worked out well.
|
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
How about both a vet and a young guy?
|
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
I'm down with that, but I'd REALLY like to see the Skins pursue some young linebackers and honestly I'd love to see us use our first pick on that this year. Maybe trade down some picks and take CBs.
|
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
I say just let Chris Clemons, Robert McCune, and Khary Campbell fight it out in camp. May the best man win.
If we can sign a vet on the cheap though, that's not a bad way to go. I still think we need to use our 2nd rounder on a CB. |
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
All of those players are good options for the first month or so. I myself, am personally a McCune fan, and would like to see Clemons as a situational pass rusher.
Either way, they should have a contingency plan in case the three of them can't get it done. That's where a talented rookie comes in. |
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
With the depth in the draft of CB, I'd really like to see us go LB or even OL. I'd also like to see us package a couple 6th rounders and maybe move up in the 5th and grab some of that great CB depth.
|
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
I think they will go get a nickelback in FA after the draft. I don't think Ade Jimoh would be the worst possible thing there, as he has the potential to be better than Walt Harris. They could use some help.
|
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
what about peter sirmon... he is going to be a backup next year in tennessee and is requesting to be released or traded he had 68 tackles and 2.5 sacks last year.
|
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
As far as the draft, I wouldn't rule out DT or TE. But ONLY if the right guy falls.

I don't know the most about the NFL draft pool this year, but is the CB depth that good that we think we could land a potential stud replacement for Springs? When I think of getting a CB, I'm thinking it would be wise to find the guy that could pair up with Rogers for the next 5 years once Springs has to head over the hill. The Gregg Williams defense needs great CB play to function, and I think it would be wise to shore it up with the 2nd rounder. From what I understand, there are a few real good corners available in the 2nd round. There's more than one way to skin a cat though. We could just try to sign a temporary nickel this year, draft a LB with our 2nd rounder, and then worry about Springs' replacement later. I guess I'm just thinking it would be nice to take advantage of the CB depth now while it's there. Our 2nd rounder could yield a stud at CB. |

I would personally rule those positions out. I think Fauria represents the blocking TE we need, plus there's Sellers, Cooley, Robert Johnson, and Manny White playing at the TE and H-Back positions. I think DT is very settled with Griffin, Salavea'a, and Wynn comprising a 3-man rotation. Plus we still have young'ns there. I don't think these positions are priorities to address with our 2nd rounder, not when we have holes at Nickel and outside LB. |

We went high at that position last year with Carlos Rogers, so IMO it's not a good idea to use another high pick on a CB. |

I think it is when you have Ade Jimoh as your nickel and your #1 CB is getting old. What you did last year in the draft has nothing to do with what you should do this year. You draft based on best fit for your team, and it just so happens we need another CB. Again, if we fill the nickel role in free agency, and then worry about Springs' replacement later, that's fine with me. Then we can draft a linebacker and I'll feel good. But I think nickel corner is a bigger priority for us than LB, given that I think Clemons is more capable at his position than Jimoh is at his. |
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
Cromartie might drop to us, and he's a stud. He would be a nice CB pickup in the draft.
Nobody thought much of Lemar Marshall or Antonio Pierce when they were promoted to starter, and they're stars now, so hopefully, we have more buried treasure in our depth chart at the LB position. |
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
Malcolm, I think I mentioned it in another thread, but I am with you on packaging some later round picks and moving up. How many of our 6th or 7th rounders ever make the team? Trade the whole draft and get a 1st rounder and then take the second day of the draft off!

Okay, he has good numbers. What happened to him during his first two years? He had zero tackles. |

Packaging the 6th and 7th round picks doesn't even work in Madden, but if some team's willing to trade for them, I'm all for it. |

I am just hopeful! I guess those 6th and 7th round picks are where the scouting department earns their paychecks. Maybe we can find that backup safety that we need in case Sean Taylor is in a jail somewhere next Fall. I shudder to think about it. |

What theJBexperience said. No one wants the whole damn package. |

I saw it as a possibility until Florida State had their Pro Day where I understand he showed his a$$, well that's what ESPN reported. When they said that I got pissed because I thought with his injury he would drop to us. If he does then great but I don't see that happening. As far as linebacker, I say use the guys we have. Unless something special comes along at a great bargain. |
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
We need a starter. I don't feel comfortable about finding a guaranteed starting LB in the 2nd round. I think Adams would be a great pickup.

if wayne and adams are the choices, lets go young because both of those guys are scrubs

DT & DE though are both areas of need. Daniels is old & If Evans leaves, we'll need some depth. |

I would assume he didn't start but that was in 2000 and 2001 I don't see why that would matter. Lemar only had 19 tackles in 2000 2001 and 2002 and he seems to be doing pretty good for himself. |

I agree for the right price, however I think we have enough homegrown talent and there's enough in the draft. |

I like Wayne for two years or so! Also get a good vet CB as well! You say why? Two reasons first if both are good players they will fit in nice with a already strong D! Second we can go into Aprils draft looking to draft the best player and not just for need! It's a win win thing!!! But the money has to be right to get those kind of player and we don't have a lot left. Still if there is a way to get it done Danny and Joe can! |

packaging every pick we have will let us move up a whopping 7-8 spots in the second round, to pick #45 overall. |
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
I like wayne too, he's not great, but pretty solid.
as far as the draft, best available... if a stud falls, pick him up, if not take the best value at a need position. CB makes a lot of sense with a current lack of DB depth and an old springs, and i'd be happy with an OL pick too since doc doesn't have a long term deal and a 6th starter is necessary (pucillo might be that 6th guy, but maybe not). LB depth is young right now, so getting a young guy for the long term isn't as important as gettign someone who can play right now. |
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
what if we just sit in nickel the entire game (2 LBs, washington/marshall, with 3 safeties, Taylor, Pearson, and Archuleta)? it'd be like have 4 LBs or 3 safeties on the field at all times.

Yeah, but the stats show he appeared in 12 games his first year and 16 his second year, but had no solos and no assists? Something screwy about this. Was he on the practice squad? Were there injuries? I'm just curious about his beginning. He seemed to surge from 0-60 in one offseason. |

Dang ESPN! Let the cat out of the bag, huh? |
Re: Redskins could be interested in Adams, Wayne
Just wanted to dig this thread back up now that we seem to have signed our nickel in CB Wright.
This move should work out for us pretty well. It seems to free us up to take a shot at the OLB to replace Arrington in the draft. Perhaps Gregg has someone he really loves in mind for that 2nd rounder to plug in at OLB? Should get interesting, I'm excited to see what happens. |

On draft day, it could seem like a reach, but I'll guarentee you he's done more homework on that one draft choice then I've done all of high school.:cheeky-sm |
