No Respect from the Media, yet again!
A new Photo Gallery up on SI.com has the top 10 toughest places to play in the NFL. Of course FED-X field, the largest venue in the NFL with the loudest fans, did not make the list.

Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
Not only that but they didn't have Oakland on the list either. Skins and Oakland have to be the loudest fans in the game.
Whoever wrote this should be subjected to 96,000 screaming Redskins fans for three hours every Sundays. They should also be subjected to irrationally rabid Raiders fans wielding kitchen knives. |
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
In SI's defense, we've been pretty fickle in FedEx up until the past couple of years. Last year was great, but I've been to games there where we didn't bring it at all.
We'll just have to make sure that next year, they all know better. |
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
FedEx? Large yes. Loud (all the time) no.

Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
Oakland Colosium really isn't all that bad as far as noise and weather goes, it is the fans to have to look out for. In my experience of having watched a Redskins/Raiders game there (98?) was that as soon as we took over the game in the second half, all the fans started leaving! LMAO... in the beginning of the game, yes, they were all in my face. We were sitting around the corner from the Black Hole, my family was all decked out in our colors.. these fans had no issue attacking us, even though we had our son of 8 years old with us.
What I really enjoyed, more than the Raiders fans leaving in the 3rd quarter, was when we left, there was a car in the parking lot burning. 4 guys in silver and black standing around fighting about who put the habachi under the before going into the game. Idiots! |
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
I think they focused on the home teams record more than anything else. Our record at home over the past few years isn't as good as some of those guys on the list. We are 12-12 the last three years. I do agree though that our fans put out as much noise, if not more than other NFL teams.

Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
While i agree with most of these places, I take exception to a few. Minnesota? , Indy? I have been at Indy, and yeah its load but its indoors. They dont tailgate, party or anything. Minnesota, they might not even show up if they are bad in a given year. I actually cant believe they dont have Cleveland in there either, they are pretty rabit!! Seattle has just recently been one of the loadest, because they are winning. I dont feel they should put these places in there if they are "fair weather fans" New England, Philly, Cleveland, Washington, KC are probably the more loyal fans there are. When we were going 5-11, 6-10, the place was still sold out and load as hell. Oakland has some crazy fans, but its not packed to rim all the time like "the big Ugly!!" what a great name for our stadium, "the big ugly"

minnesota is the toughest place? id say arrowhead

Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
I guess I was thinking sold out every year and 96,000+, should make this list. I know the Skins have not always been winners, but that should not really factor in too much. I just laugh at how the media just continues to ignore that D.C. is even in the NFL world.

It's OK. Don't correct yourself. You had us at load. |
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
I have heard from unbiased sources that FEDEX is a tough place to play and opposing players are intimidated from the huge size and VOLUME. I have also heard that playing the Seahawks is a piece of cake as far stadium. very light and polite crowd noise.

Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
If you have a loosing record how can we say its a tough place to play. I know things are turning around but we still have to face the fact that we have lost more games at Fedex than we have won. The skins are sold out for ever but that does not make it a tough place to play. Someone comment that he heard that players were intimidated by the size and all the fans which could be true, but now we need to have them intimidated by our team. The time has come and I don't think teams are looking forward to playing in Fedex the way they may have in years past.

I would agree! |
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
Maybe the tough factor has something to do with the team on the field and until last season the skins were not exactly world beaters at fedex and the raiders have been nothing special for awhile now.
|
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
We won't make that list (and probably don't deserve to) until we revive the vibe of RFK, stop having so many fans of other teams come to FedEx and make sure we hold on to fourth-quarter leads against pretenders such as the Chargers.

Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
When we bring it as fans...there is NO harder place to play in the game....see: Bears, Chicago. It could be argued that the fans basically won that game for the Skins' with the 3 false start penalties...
But we don't bring it every week. We were awsome last season for the most part, but other than that, we were only good for a number of games in 2004. We still have some work to do, but if we keep up the way we were last year, there wont be a questoin. |
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
Fed Ex will be on the top ten list in a year or two I think. Just as soon as we come out with all those offensive weapons and run up the score on a few other teams
|
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
Cleveland isn't on there, huh? In my book, any place where the fans throw beer bottles at the officials as they exit the field has to be on any such list, otherwise, it's flawed.
And Green Bay? Come on, the mystique with that team is done. Their team stinks, and will be worse once that media darling Brett Farve is gone. Good riddance, I say. |

Every year in the past all the skins fans came to the game with the energy and optimistic this would be the year. For the first couple of home games the fans brought the house. After a couple of losses the fans start to fad and the interest starts to leave. Think for the past 6 or so years we make all of those off season moves and everyone gets realy excited then it fads as the losses pile up. The fans can only do but so much and the team has to give them something to cheer for which they have not been doing until last season. So were doing our part its time the team and coaches do theirs. |
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
I will have to give kudos to the Chiefs (the other tribe) very loyal fans,
very loud......and when all the fans wear their red jerseys.....very intimidating...... Dome teams shouldn't be included in the poll..noise is trapped. And Philly boos and makes noise at their own players and even Santa......just a totally disagreeable and disgruntled group.... At least they didn't include dallASS in the poll....in the past the Boyz fans were noted for poilitely applauding their team, and way back they wouldn't even allow their fans to bring signs into Texas Stadium........ |
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
I don't think that you can argue that Fed-Ex is a tough place to play. Besides the Dallas game last year, I can't think of many games where there was electricity.
Doc Walker on many occasions has pointed out that the stadium is focused on marketing instead of being a hostile enviornment. I believe that the home games are beginning to give them an edge but you don't lose games to teams like the 2005 Raiders and claim to have a true home field advantage. |
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
I do feel like we yeall our asses off but the open stadium and acoustics just doesn't seem that loud. I didn't go to a single game last year but on TV it seemed pretty loud.
|
Re: No Respect from the Media, yet again!
there were certain games last season where the joint was jumping.but i agree that the more we win,the better the home field becomes
