Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Lavar agreed in principle ESPN reports, 7 years 49 million.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2417903 Wow he got his money... |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Wow, twice a year we will see him just really pissed off. It's Joe Gibbs modern era LT nightmare all over again! Ouch, was really hoping he would have left the division. Oh well, guess we will find ways to beat him when he is out of position.
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
This really sucks. I dont wish anything bad on the guy because i really like him but im sure he will have his injury issues and hopefully it will be when we are playing him. Although im sure he will want to play against us every chance he gets
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Now that's 2 Ex Skins LBs that have gone over to the Blue side. That sucks
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Not good. But if anyone will know how to exploit him it will be Gibbs / Williams. I am worried about him and Pierce and our signals, though.
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Eh, not concerned. Good for him that he got his money. I am more concerned with our players playing to their abilities than who anyone else has. If they do what they're capable of then I think it won't much matter who is on the other side of the ball.

Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Isn't good ? Why fear this guy. He's just like any other good player that we have to see. So the F*&K What if he wen't to New York ? Who here really didn't see this coming ? If you ACTUALLY thought he was going somewhere else then you did just what he wanted you to do. F - the Giants, I can't wait until that game comes up. Pierce knew the signals in the second game and did it help,... NO. The first game yeah it did, they will change things here and there to offset them gicing away the calls just like they did for the second meeting. I'm pissed he's there, yeah he's a "playmaker" that the Skins have to worry about but man, he's 1 guy out of 11 on the field for the Giants' D. He and his folks will have to line up against our Offense, I'm confident the offense will be fine. I wish he went somewhere else but it was plain to see that he was going to New York no matter what.
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Arrington and Pierce are not familiar with Al Saunders offense...so, I'm not too worried. 7 year 49 million....isn't that less money than what he would have made as a Redskin? Do you think we would have been able to keep him if he redid his contract for less money?

he would have made more under his old deal, but there was no way to really work the numbers to keep him and get everyone in FA we targetted. LBs and RBs are the most replaceable positions, we'll find someone. |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Remember when we got Jeremiah Trotter and it was all about how he'd be so fired up to play in the same division as the Eagles that we'd burn them twice a year? And we got Jessie Armstead and it was watch out NY Giants, JA is on a mission?....Yeah, exactly
Maybe LaVar will make some big plays against and win some personal battles. But the Washington Redskins team will still win the war. |

Giants | Team concerned about Arrington's first physical
Sat, 22 Apr 2006 08:51:12 -0700 Vinny DiTrani, of the Bergen Record, reports free agent LB LaVar Arrington (Redskins) refused to take a physical for the New York Giants during his previous visit in March. He instead had his agents send the team a copy of the physical he took with the Miami Dolphins. The results concerned the Giants, which appeared to show a bone-on-bone situation in his right knee. The Giants asked for Arrington to undergo a checkup with them, which one source said was "good enough" to allow talks to continue. |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
What number will Arrington wear I wonder? Surely the Ginats have retired the number 56 in honor of a certain other linebacker named Lawrence Taylor.
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
yeah, its too much money... a lot is contingent on him playing well though... at least that's what a NY paper was writing.
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
thatguy, what kind of signing bonus did he get?
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
pierce didnt play in the second game
...or half of the other LBer's |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
With the defensive ends that the Giants have I can see Lavar having a great year if he stays healthy. Tim Lewis will move him around so that he can avoid a lot of traffic and play to his strengths on stunts and blitzes. The Giants can afford to because of their great DEs. Though I thought the Skins ultimately did the right thing in letting him go--I can't help but feel nervous about one of those Lavar missile hits on Brunell.

Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
thatguy, what kind of signing bonus did he get?
no one's reported on that yet. he wanted up to $18mill, but i'm sure he didn't get that. might have been around $10-12 though... I have no idea how incentive based it is either. |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Good riddens. I oved the guy as a skin but do you think his selfishness isnt gonna go to NY with him? He had a chance to stay. He will regret it. The whole problem with him is that he couldnt run a defensive system, what they dont have a system in NY? wouldnt it have been nice to let him go a couple of years ago and keep Pierce? if we keep them indime defense by running 3 & 4 receiver sets then he wont even be on the field. Isnt that where he feals the most comfortable, on the sideline?
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Man this is some BS.....a least we get to expose him twice a year now
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
I think he's a great player when healthy, but it seems odd to mention that he wants to play against us twice a year. He wants to go 1 on 1 against Portis, one of the top backs in the league that knows his freelancing tendecies, or against Jansen and Samuels in pass rushing or against Cooley in pass defense. All guys who know him and are becoming or already are elite at their positions. He can be an elite LB, but if he comes into a game against Washington with a chip on his shoulder, he's gonna try and make something happen, which is what got him into trouble in the first place.

Maybe LaVar will make some big plays against and win some personal battles. But the Washington Redskins team will still win the war.
Yeah, I remember. And lets not forget about Mike Barrow, the Giant MLB stud who came here got injured and never played a down in a Redskins uniform. I like Lavar and hope he does well except when he plays the Skins. But this is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately game. In evaluating the impact, I think about Arrington's value in his last two seasons, not from his first two when he was out of this world. Fact is, he was not the best nor even the second best linebacker on the team last year. |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
sorry but this shows how much bs lavar was spitting at us earlier about loving the redskins. if he loved the redskins he never would have gone to giants

The only thing that matters is whats guaranteed. Also, dont forget to subtract the $4.4m from whatever he got that he paid back to the Skins... |

Thats an excellent point that I didnt think about. They really wont be able to help all that much since Saunders is running the show now... |

no...just take away the 4.4 million from the cap penalty he would get from us He was gonna get over 12 million from us, now hes getting less than 8 million |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
LaVar=Garbage....just another NFC East recycable player
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Lavar is an excellent LB when healthy. Why deny that? He didn't get along with Lindsey and Williams, and he bought out his contract for 4 mil, so that's that. I'd rather have him in some other division, and I don't like the giants getting better on D, which it's hard to deny that they have. But this is the NFL--every week you have to play good teams with good players.
The main issue is health--weird that he wouldn't take the physical and all, and then they said "good enough"... Wonder how that nasty field at giants stadium will affect his health? |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Maybe Portis can run for 200 yds against NY the way Emmitt did against us when Lavar was here. Besides , we should have no problem converting 3rd and short , lets face in Lavar NEVER made a stop on short yardage when he was in Burgandy and Gold . Never made a sack on 3rd down either .
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
no really subtract the 6 million that he thinks is in the contract but isn't
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
My opinion is i dont think Lavar is going to be all that in NY. Honesly i see he getting hurt again. I think hhe had his best years before he got hurt.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Lets not worry about this guy anymore, hes hurt and he never recovered from his injury. I could see it when he was running. He isnt nearly as fast anymore and he makes dumb mistakes. If he thought Dale Lindsay was bad wait til he plays for Tom "dont be late" Coughlin. But in the end though, dont you guys think we are creating history here. I mean TO to the boys and LA to the Giants. This is going to be one exciting story line filled season, and I cant wait. |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Lavar Arrington will be wearing number 55, check out the roster on the Giants website.

Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
It could have been worse--he might have gone to the Cowboys.
...but he wouldn't have gone to the Cowboys. So this is about as bad as this could have played out. |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Hopefully we can find something else to talk about around here now.
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Honestly, I really don't see Lavar finishing the year healthy as so many of you have mentioned. Due to the toughness of the schedule and weather conditions, his durability will diminish. This signing was an act of desperation and embarrassment. Joe Gibbs has more credibility than people are willing to admit and rumors soared about Arrington's attitude in the locker room. I won't be wearing his jersey again wishing he and Pierce good riddance.

Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Giants | More on Arrington deal
Sat, 22 Apr 2006 15:21:36 -0700 ESPN.com's John Clayton reports agent Kevin Poston didn't say how much was guaranteed in LB LaVar Arrington's contract, but New York Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi indicated that it includes performance bonuses. To get the $7 million-per-year, Arrington and the Giants agreed to load the deal with incentives. Arrington, who will get a $5.25 million signing bonus, will receive a base salary worth around $3.7 million a year. With reachable incentives, Arrington can make $5 million a year and with maximum performance, he can take the deal to $49 million if he completes the seven years of his contract. that's $9-10.25mill this year |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
How is he ever gonna make it with these higher gas prices?!?!?!
He gone. Out of sight out of mind for me. Good luck and all but...buh-bye |
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Can we stop arguing about the same old crap, about if LaVar is good in our eyes, bc he left, and whatnot. Its over ppl stop going on and on about how he didnt love the skins, sheez you guys are acting like you just got dumped by Kelly in the 6th grade, bringing up how she didnt love you ever living minute. The issue at hand right now is, LaVar's new deal, its terms, etc. He was a good player for us, tried hard, good guy for the fans and community, did LOVE the skins, had trouble with the handful of coaches over the years, and left bc of the conflicts that came up in his situation that were not all HIS fault. We all know what happened was for the best (damn now even I sound like your best bud conforting you after you got dumped), so just let it freaking go.
|
Re: Lavar and Giants agree on deal
Good Ridance. Some true Redskin! As much as he talked team, He always seemed to make statements at just the wrong time to disrupt things. All he really cared about was the money. Don't wine about him being gone. We'll be better without him. Let him get burned on the Gaints.
