Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Redskins | Taylor's trial date likely pushed back again
Wed, 26 Apr 2006 21:52:46 -0700 Jason La Canfora, of the Washington Post, reports all scheduled hearings for Washington Redskins FS Sean Taylor's felony assault case have been postponed, according to members of the defense and prosecution. There will be a new judge and a new lead prosecutor, which will require additional time to prepare. Richard Sharpstein, one of Taylor's attorneys, and Ed Griffith, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, said they expected the trial to be delayed before May 8 as a procedural matter. As of now, there are no new dates set for hearing or the trial. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
can't this be considered a mistrial after a certain amount of time? I mean this kind of doesn't go along with a speedy trial
|
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
I would love to read next that "the new prosecuting attorney, after reviewing the facts, has decided that there is nothing there and has dropped the charges!"
Wouldn't that be nice! |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
MOD ALERT-------Merge in progress?
|
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
I think the judicial system in Miami-Dade is a joke.

Don't know if that has hurt or helped Taylor. Or will hurt or help him in the future. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Honestly, I don't think with all the time that's gone by, all the things that have changed, would they be able to give Taylor a fair trial. I don't see HOW this thing hasn't gotten dismissed yet.

I think the reason that it has gotten this far was because the former lead prosecutor was pushing so aggressively. But that same attorney has been involved in self-promoting activities that lacked good judgment, which, if I think about it, is lethal if you are in the legal profession (lacking good judgment). That's why I'm thinking that it may have hurt him or helped him. Because a lot of the good and the bad involves that one prosecutor. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Well, I knew about all that. I'm just thinking that the whole details of the case haven't even taken the secondary importance, more like the tertiary. It's all about this Grieco guy and due to this, it's constantly getting pushed back. How are people supposed to testify about an event that happened nearly a year ago?
|

Yeah hopefully the new lead prosecutor looks at it and throws it out. Or he just gets tired of all this crap and throws it out. It's like it's more trouble than it's worth. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Honestly, whoever is brave enough to become the lead prosecutor, just realizes that the only way for them to save face is to dismiss. It's become a public relations nightmare and if it goes to trial, it will almost certainly prove Taylor's innocence.
|
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Also, they're changing the JUDGE in the case. So it's not just the new prosecutor who has to get up to speed. Wonder how that will affect things? Man, I hope it doesn't drag out much longer!

no, since taylors already asked for a few extensions too. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
I think they keep postponing it because they dont want S.T. to tackle one of them.
|
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again

Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
In Coach Williams' interview, he mentions that he is aware of many things behind the scene that even reporters do not know and that at the end of the day, there will be a lot of apologies (to Taylor). He is 100 percent certain that Sean Taylor will be playing this fall. So whatever the situation is in Miami-Dade county, it doesn't seem to be bothering Gregg Williams.

The only way he can know anything for sure is if he was there ,I think all that will happen is 400 hours of talking to kids maybe pick up some trash on the road and pay 1 million to someone . |

How's that? If he's convicted of what he's been charged with there is a mandatory minimum of 3 years for each count. And this is a criminal case, not a civil case......so where does the 1 million come from? If he's innocent, he'll get off free and clear..........but if he's found guilty, there's nothing anyone can do about the sentence starting at 3 years and going up from there. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again

Pretty interesting read |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
My attorney told me one time, "In the legal system, the only people that pay, are those that cannot afford to". Sage wisdom! Maybe worse than that, the punishment these guys get is signifigantly better than my life.
I must admit however, dude raising a sack of cash for charity probably serves more good than kickin' cans down the road on a chain gang. |

Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
plea bargan.
From what I've heard Taylor has already rejected the plea bargain offered by the prosecutor that would have had him avoiding jail time. I think they've taken the stance that they are fighting this, all-or-nothing. And there's still no way $1 million gets worked into a criminal plea bargain. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
The plea bargain they rejected still had him pleading to a felony, I think. That's still WAY too much to plead to here, if things are as shaky for the state as they appear.
Misdemeanor suspended sentence is what they're waiting for, but they may feel they have a strong enough case to win it in court no matter what, and they want to vindicate Sean. We'll see. Man, I wish it would go away already. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Redskins | Police and courts: S. Taylor
Mon, 8 May 2006 12:27:17 -0700 The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins S Sean Taylor had his trial date delayed once again, this time until July 10. It's the seventh time the trial has been delayed. Taylor, who wasn't present at Monday's hearing, May 8, has pleaded not guilty and is free on bail. Taylor faces a faces a minimum of three years in prison on each of three aggravated assault charges. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Sean Taylor's trial = Our Cap Hell
|
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Never gonna happen?
|
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Damn right.
Honestly, I wish this thing would just get over because honestly, if it makes it to the season, they'll just postpone it until after the season. Maybe they're waiting on all key witnesses to die of old age. |
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again

Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
This thing will linger another year so it appears...and the saga continues.
|
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
The unfortunate thing for ST, is all of the lawyer fees he must be paying as this thing continues to drag out. The lawyers are always the only ones who really win in these things.

Except for DJ Dirty Sanchez.
|
Re: Taylor's trial likely to be postponed again
Who knows, maybe this thing will be delayed so long Taylor will have a long and fullfilling career in the NFL before this ever comes to court.
