F... Smokers Driving in Front of You
 

So awful. Lovely spring day, sun is out, not a cloud in sight. I think I'll roll my windows down on my way home from work, some fresh air would be great.

Oh, wait. The jerk in front of me is smoking and I'm catching nothing but his nasty, stinky-ass second hand smoke. So much for enjoying my ride home!

F That!

And F the jerks that throw the used butts on the ground when they're done. It's like littering is ok if it's "only" a cigarette butt. It especially pisses me off when they toss the lit butt on the road when I'm driving behind them.......that's when the road rage kicks in and I blind them with the high beams.

I hate seeing that glowing cigarette butt flying at me as I am driving at night. Sometimes I think those things have to bounce off of the front of my car.

Same here man. I can't stand it, it kind of freaks me out at night. I bet you this too, a smoker has NEVER been pulled over for littering.

I bet you're right. And I really don't get that. I mean, if I pulled out a used tissue and tossed it out the car window, would that be considered ok? Or even walking down the sidewalk, should I just throw it on the ground like people do with cigarettes? Totally pisses me off.

I agree...but you just know the posts are coming saying "why can't I smoke in my car? You don't like it, ride the train or take a different route. The only reason I have to smoke in my car is because you won't let me smoke in the restaurant. Schneed, you pinko commie you"

I wouldn't ever argue that they can't smoke in their cars. Definitely wouldn't want a policy stipulating that. But it still pisses me off to smell it!

And the cigarette butts thing gets to me too. I live on a pretty quiet suburban street, not a major thoroughfare by any means. And yet I still find butts on my lawn by the curb on a weekly basis. No respect!

I think the only convincing argument you could come up for that is to really enforce people who throw their damn butts out the window. Because if you go to the end of saying the smell is hurting your legs, you could also say that the exhaust from cars hurts it too. :(

The way I see it, if they have the right to smoke in ANY area in which I HAVE TO breath, then I have the right to cough unnecessarily loud at them or say something to them. Want to smoke? Fine, do it in a way that doesn't bother me. If not, don't get pissed when I call you rude.

True enough. These smoker's rights groups are the ones who piss me off. PLEASE give me a convincing argument about the rights smokers should have. I'd LOVE to hear it.

I smoked for at least 10+ years, but quit 2 years ago. I think that smokers should be able to smoke outside or in their cars ONLY if they extinguish and then throw away the butts.

You can smell the smoke from a cigarette from the car in front of you? I guess you guys dont have smog...
We( people in So.Cal) cant smell a diesal fueled semi driving by, hell, half the time the smog is so thick, we cant even see it!

But yeah, F... the drivers that toss out lit butts. 10's of thousands of acres are burned down because of that shit every year. We have a brush fire season :( .

This sums up my feelings on smoking pretty well.

I recognize that smokers should have the freedom to smoke in open air places where non-smokers are able to get away from it. But I also reserve the right to be disgusted at smokers, no matter where they are smoking, because it's just flat out gross. There are no laws governing social derision.

In California there pretty strict about cig butts. If you throw your butt out the window and a cop sees you. 95% of the time your going to get a littering ticket. And not only do you pay a fine. You spend a weekend wearing an orange jacket picking up trash on the freeway.
You can't even smoke on most of the beaches now. Forget about inside a bar or restaurant. That's a big no no. And it has been for about 10 yrs.
It's really not that big of a deal. If you want to.Just go out front and smoke.
It's fun when my friends and I go back east they all trip out that you can still smoke in restraunts and bars. It just doesn't feel right to them anymore.
Just wait the laws will work there way back east.
But then again Virgina grows there share of tabbacco. So you guys might be screwd for a while.:Smoker:

Philly has tried passing the no smoking in bars and restaurant ordinance fairly recently, but it continuously gets shot down by the Mayor because he doesn't like the councilman that proposes the ordinance because of a completely unrelated matter. So, they've smartened up a little. Now a different concilmember is going to propose the same exact ordinance and everyone expects that the Mayor will not veto it. I wish I was kidding, but that's seriously how this city operates. I truly believe Philadelphia is the poorest run city in the entire United States.

I tried my best to help out with the Katz campaign. At one point I had over 20 angry "Street supporters" surrounding me and two of my colleagues, yelling at me and spitting on me. Not pretty. This last election was no election, it was a street fight. Cops got there in time to do nothing.

Here in Austin, TX you can't smoke in a restaurant within the city limits. I think that is becoming the norm in most places.

I drive with my windows down 99% of the time I drive cuz I love the fresh air and only use my ac when it's raining and I even drive with the windows down during the winter ( I used to live in Iceland so winter here is nothing) so I definitely agree how much it sucks to be stuck behind a smoker on the road. I used to absolutely hate coming out of certain buildings on my old college campus cuz u would walk right into a huddle of people right outside the door smoking. and sooner or later one of those cig tossers is gonna start a Final Destination type of accident and it ain't gonna be pretty.
