Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
Hey all,
Did anyone else hear the Brian Mitchell Show today on 980? Brian Mitchell said, and I quote: "Even last year, there were more Dallas Cowboy jerseys than Redskin jerseys at FedEx field." This was part of a larger coversation between BMitch and Bram Weinstein about whether or not Washington DC was a true sports town (Brian cited Philadelphia as being one). Bram - who I actually like a lot - was shocked, and disagreed vehemently, but BMitch stuck to his guns. What do people think about this, primarily the comment regarding the Redskins? I wasn't at the game, but I refuse to believe that this is even close to true. |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I think there were a significant amount of cowboys jerseys at the game, but not a majority. I think his point is there are alot of ppl in this area that are NOT skins fans, mainly alot of dallas fans. Why that is, I do not know. Another good thing one can draw from this, is that we may not be a solid football town in the recent past bc the team had not been doing well. Thats why last year we saw so many "bandwagon" fans come out of nowhere. It is a simple fact that when a team does better in one area, that area has more fans for that team. I mean how many serious texans fans are out there? Most people in Texas will pick Dallas, bc they are successful. I can support the facts brought up by BMitch, I was at the skins vs. eagles game at FedEX two years ago, and there were ALOT of philly jerseys, not a majority, but almost pushing over 25-30 percent, which is not good. Hopefully our teams recent success will make those numbers go down, by increasing Skins fan attendence. Now saying that bc there are alot of other jerseys in the stadium, means this is a bad football town or whatever, might be streching it. I think alot of that has to do with the fact our team hasnt been playing well in the past.

This was part of his point, but he was adamant about the quote I posted at the beginning of the thread. He made the comment, Bram stopped him and repeated what he had just said sarcastically, and Brian Mitchell reaffirmed. Again, I'm in no position to judge since I wasn't at the game, but I can't believe its accurate. When was the last time we didn't sell out? I'm pretty sure we were selling out even during the lean 2000-2004 seasons. |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I was at that game, It was 90% Redskins fans as opposed to the past when it was only 75%. I love B-mitch be he is on crack on this one. That was th loudest event I have ever been to. Listen the highlights and the you suck chants. The crowd was brilliant!

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I was at that game no way there was that many cowgirl fans, Fans have been commin back since gibbs came back.

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans

That's an ignorant statement. |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
Saying something like that leads me to believe that Mitchell wasn't in attendance.
The crowd was electric that night. Anyone that was there can tell you that! |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
B Mitch can suck it!
|
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I wasent at the game so i cant say that i saw more cowboy jerseys than skins, I was just going by what that guy said in that interview, but as for being ignorant, the comment was only meant as a suggestion, not to be taken litearlly. Sounds like arrogance from your part must be a george bush fan haha.

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans

Screw him sseriously......was he at thegame?? then what was he going o n ? Sorry guys, i've bbbeen drinking.....as you can dsee by the slurred wwritingl, Bottomg line, screw BMitch! |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
He was incorrect. Dallas (and Philly) fans make the trip, and show up better than any other visitors in recent years, but last year it was nuts. Certainly 80+% Skins fans, and it was so loud you could actually see the yelling lines coming out of people's mouths, much like this:

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
without a doubt that was the loudest game i have been to in like 7 years. And it was cheers for the skins which would only come from skins fans not dallas fans. esp. the one sleeping when betts had the td run.

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
DC is a destination spot for people. There are many out-of-towners who have moved to work in DC. I would guess the ratio of native DCers to imports is probably WAY higher than in Dallas. Also Dallas was at one point a national team like the Yankee.s They have retreated a bit from that but some of that stills remains. That is the reason why there are many Dallas jrseys at Fedex. There are probably lots at every game the Cowboys play. As for Philly. It is like 3 hours away. Of ocurse there are a lot of diehards who come down just like there are many Skins fans who go there.
I was at the Dallas game. Skins fans outnumbered Dallas fans 20-1 |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I don't know, I was there and my section was basically all redskins fans. There were three cowboy fans in a group behind me and 1 fan all by himself in the first row. In the first 15 rows of my section I would say there were no more than 6 cowboy fans. Our fans sell out a 90,000 seat stadium at about $100 a ticket and next year it will be a lot more.
And by the way, Dallas is always full of opposing team jerseys. |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I was there and that is a downright falsehood. There were some Cowboys fans there and one tried to fight me. But way less than I've seen in the last 10 years. Crowd was crazy crazy loud as it was 28-0 at the half. At that time we wished em all merry christmas as almost all of them were gone by 3rd quarter kickoff.
Simply untrue statement by BMitch. Maybe under Spurrier, Marty or Norv, but since Gibbs return simply not true! |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
The stadium was rocking that night. That was such a fun game to be at. You would think a blowout would be boring but really that was more fun than a close game. It was a party the entire night. Our fans were great last year with the exception of raiders and chargers and guess what, those are the two we lost.

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
i agree with bsb.fed ex last season was probably the loudest its been since it opened(with the exception of the lions playoff game)that dallas game the joint was jumpin, and as they say, there was electricity in the air.but not enough to wake up the sleeping dallas fans
|
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I remember hearing when Gibbs first came back rumors of Brian Mitchell coming here. Was there ever any truth to that and if so maybe something went wrong and caused him to have some anger or bad feelings toward the team. Or maybe they were just rumors not sure just a thought

Considering the skins only win superbowls under republican presidents, you ought to be glad GW is in office. |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
this could just be a ploy by b-mitch. he's trying to get under our skin just a bit so that season ticket holders will stop selling to fans of the other teams and only sell to other skins fans. i heard b-mitch talk about that very thing more than once during those post game shows on comcast. b-mitch and nick csaben(sp) both talked about this subject quite frequently.

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
Good point, Wolf. Mitchell can't be that insanely ignorant unless he's trying some sort of reverse psychology. If he really did mean it then his statement ranks up there with "the earth is flat".

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I think he's just doing his usual thing. Just trying to ruffle some feathers or something. I wasn't at the game but the guy who was going to give me and my sister his tickets said he was taking his grandsons but HE NEVER F*CK*&G USED THEM ! Anyhoo, there was a sprinkle of Cowboy fans there but it wasn't like the game in Dallas. If you watch the clip from that game the crowd erupts when Santana Moss catches those TD passes. Oh yeah, the guy who was sleeping wasn't a fan it was actually Michael Barrow ! I remember when the game was on they showed the "fan" and then about 5 mins later they showed Barrow on the bench sleep ! I was going crazy that day, MAN did I get drunk ! I wish I could show you guys the picture I tool when I went to work looking for Cowboys fans. I wore 4 jerseys, my flag, 2 pennants, 2 hats, and carried around my Redskins snowman for all to enjoy !

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
What Brain should have said was that Cowboy fans were well represented and that simply shouldn't be the case. Yes, the Skins have lots of Corporate and Lobbyist/Politician ticket holders but that Majority of fans in the stands have been and will always be Redskins fans.

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I just wanted to mention one reason why there are so many cowboys fans in the reason. Many forget that until the late fifites(?) the redskins had no blacks on the team. I beleive they were the last team in the league to integrate. As such, many black area fans of the time rooted for whoever was playing the skins that week. Its only logical that many would become fans of hated rivals like the cowboys and eagles. I am not saying its the only reason, because i am sure there are alot of redskins fans in texas, but it is one that has been brought to my attention in the past.

Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
I was at that game and the stadium was full of rabid, raving, riotous, rightous Redskins fans and damned few cowboys fans. It was one of the very few times since 1999 that FedEx was as loud and as rocking as RFK. Vibrating stands are a beautiful feeling.
But, Mitchell has a point. Up to last season, there were a LOT of NFC East fans in the stands. But that's a function of money, not loyalty. FedEx sells out every game by season ticket holders who are either true fans or ticket brokers. In the Turner years, a true fan was faced with the prospect of using an $80 ticket to see a team with a less than 50% chance of winning, or selling the ticket and watching on TV. So a lot of Cowboy/Eagles/Giants fans scalped tickets. Brokers sell to anybody. My company had season tickets and a couple of times before 2005, couldn't get any customers to go to the games. So those tickets went back to brokers - who sold them to the other guys. In other cities I lived in, when the local team was bad for a long time, fans cancelled their season tickets. That doesn't happen here. People kept their tickets for the return to glory. I think that's next season. FedEx will be rocking from August to January. You watch & see. |

Thing is I was at th Giant -Cowgirl game last year in NY and it was the same there .So 90,000 and out of that 10,000 fans of the other team,as long as your team is kicking ass it's fine . |
Re: Brian Mitchell on Redskins fans
Mitchell will say just about anything to challenge the fans and the team to do better. Even if it's true.
