I like that he agrees with the overall assessment. We already had the ground attack covered. Now we have the arial attack not only covered but blanketed. Pick your poison!

Re: Portis Optimism

I might be biased and ignorant or I might be crazy hopeful and desperate but I truly believe that we are going to be something spectacular this year. I have already had reoccurring dreams about Vikings vs skins monday night and the score is like 50+ to 0, our defense is owning and our offense is scoring ever which way. Maybe my hopes will come true someday. Our WRs are all going to be good enough to be a number 2 or better somewhere, moss, lloyd, patten, thrash, and ARE. I am so happy to hear good things about patten from camp and who knows if he could pull up to that number 2 or 3 spot. Lots of rotation and variation will be the key this year and we have the depth to do it. Betts is great and saunders is REALLY impressed by him. I think the mix of a heavy man betts with a new, quicker, and sleeker portis will be magic.

Its pick your poison and either way it ends with us and 7 points. I don't see how we can fail. I pray for a healthy season for all because that is the wildcard in all this. If we are healthy, as I felt we were blessed last year compared to the year before, I don't see anything short of top 10 for this offense and that is a bad year for Saunders. Our defense will hold and I am looking at Super bowl. The LEAGUE is weak right now. The AFC is becoming weak and the NFC has been weak. We play in a division with 4 of the top 10 teams in it; in my opinion and getting out will be a bitch. If we get out we know at least 2 others will not. The playoffs will be a cake walk compared to our division games. If we come out on top of the division we know we won't have to go away for the playoffs to a division rival's house.

Portis, betts, and the running game are going to be huge in this. Portis is a confident son of a bitch. He really is starting to believe he will be picking up 10 yards a play, and I like that. I got his autograph a few months ago and told him to get 1700 yards this year and the way he answered it seemed like he thought he was going to get more and I believe that. 1700 all purpose yards for portis. He is going to be busting out of the hole like he did 3 years ago with denver. He was in shape to do that when he first arrived (Evidence: http://youtube.com/watch?v=x9ycN75syh0&search=portis ). He couldn't do it all year because our O sucked horse balls and the 9 in the box was impossible to penetrate. Last year he was forced to put on weight to break that box wide open regardless if there were 7 or 11 in there. Now he and the coaches know, with the receivers we have, he won't have that problem. He is going to lose weight and be CRAZY fast and nimble again. UGGGSGHg I can't fucking wait for the season.

bsb, let me condense that for you. the redskins will at least play in the nfc championship game and the redskins offense will lead the league in scoring(how was that?)

Re: Portis Optimism

I really like what we have at our skill positions. At this point, our season rests on Brunells shoulders. I'm just hoping if he gets knicked up and starts playing poorly, Saunders doesnt sacrifice three or four games so we can save his ego.

BigSKINBauer 06-20-2006 07:24 AM

Re: Portis Optimism

I think brunells job is going to be easy this year but he is the only ? mark. I am all completely on board the brunell wagon but if he does slip up, I agree with daseal, we need to bench him asap because we can't afford to drop a quarter of the season in this division. I know campbell will be good but now isn't the time. Brunell is going to do a good job though. He had a high passer rating the entire year and was efficient. He had a good TD/INT ratio and didn't have any effect from pressure. He got injured and his play dropped. Same thing happened the year before and we kept him in there. This year, I hope we sit him down whenever there is a problem.

Re: Portis Optimism

Is it a coincidence, or is it on purpose that Portis , when talking about his offensive performance next year , he mentions sean taylor, ahead of Santana and Cooley, who lined up at WR a few times last year in the bears game, is he goign to get some offensive reps this year from Al Saunders?

No, I really can't see 21 lining up on offense at all this year. I think Portis was talking about the team in general when he mentioned him.

Sean Taylor would make a great blocking back on offense. He could clear the way for Portis very well. :)

except for the fact that he's had 0 reps as a FB in his career. he's 230, sellers is 270+, guess which one blocks better.

I'd never want him to play FB, it's an injury risk and Sellars is a great blocker...

But he'll never get in as WR and if he's going to play offense, putting him out there as a "hitman" would be fun to watch.

I know it'll never happen. We have enough offensive firepower now that we won't need to experiment with our DBs on offense. :)

Re: Portis Optimism

Buster I can sit and watch that clip all day long. I think that's during the replay when John Madden said, ... "and Sean Taylor the safety comes up and just unloads on him."

Now if you can convince me that that wasn't a fumble I'd believe Tom Brady didn't fumble against Oakland.

yeah, its too bad they frown on offensive tackling. Otherwise, he chumps the #1 CB out of the game and that lets moss go on a rampage.

awesome clip ! We need our O-Linemen to hit some Lb's like that , if we stay healthy on the OL , pound the ball , play action ,,,,,,,, sounds good !!!!

Re: Portis Optimism

Our offensive line play last year has me boosted. Derrick Dockery started to get his game up and with the O-line having another year TOGETHER, let me repeat this TOGETHER, also help my optimism. We are returning mostly our CORE positions. Not skill but CORE. Everyone used to talk about how the Skins recycled players each year but our core (i.e. O-line, quarterback) are the same. There is alot more continuity with our organization then their has been in the past 10 years or so. I try to hold my confidence back but I really feel that we have a strong chance of making if not winning the ,.... I can
t say it because I don't want to jinx it. You guys know what I mean though.

HAIL !

MOTHER FUCKIN HAIL !!!!!!

Re: Portis Optimism

Personally, I think we'll see Sean Taylor in the lineup at offense. One thing we didn't get with Randel El, and don't have with Patten or Moss (kinda) is a leaper. Lloyd can really go up, but if we put Sean Taylor in it seems like teams were doubling him up in the Red Zone. That opens a lot of people up. I'd like to see him catch a couple balls though!

As far as earlier on Brunell not having a job to do. I don't buy that one bit. His timing and balls better be pretty to use these receivers to their full potential. If hes putting a lot of balls behind them or delivering too slow it's not good. This teams success rests squarely on whoever is under center, in my opinion.

Sean should give it a go in goal line situations. At worst his freakish vertical jump ability will draw attention and at best he will use it. We might look to him for the height we need every once in a while. It would distract the hell out of the defense if in the middle of a drive we put sean out there and then ran a draw or something.

Portis will probably catch more balls this year. I can Saunders sending all the receivers deep and letting Ports work his magic against LBs. I wouldn't be surprised if he catches 50+ balls this year.

That was DEFINATELY a fumble, he caught it then turned and ran at least 2-3 steps before getting hammered.

Maybe the refs thought it was his head. :)

Taylor can leap to catch the ball...or leap over the line on a goalline run. :)

We know he can take the hits on a play like that...
