Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
http://football.about.com/od/playerprofiles/p/ahmadbrooks.htm
Ive heard this guy is a beast, and he sounds like a good middle LB. Given our history of poor picks in Rounds 4,5,6 do we take a shot in the supplemental draft if he is available? My first impression is yes, but there have been some off the field issues. I think the biggest issue was a possession of less than 15 grams of pot, which could have been as little as a joint, I don't know. Thoughts? |

Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
I'd want to make sure those issues were addressed, but I think it would be worth a shot.
I love that his dad played under Gibbs during the first era. Maybe that would give Gibbs a better chance at reaching Ahmad. |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
Bob Marley would have been proud of a joint filled with 15 grams of weed.
That's about a half ounce. That's alot of weed. |

He coulda had a joint, an 1/8th, a pipe with residue, anything really. I had a client charged with that when they found 2 marijuana seeds in his ashtray, there's just no way to know without seeing the police report. Maybe there are some articles out there. Anything less than 15 grams is presumed, in my State at least, to be for personal use and its automatic probation 1st offense, and can later be expunged off his record. Now before anyone jumps all over me, let me say again that's just where I practice, probably not everywhere. |

Ahhhh, college memories.....Im getting really hungry. |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
what happened in college?
i forget! |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
I thought he had a lot more problems than just one joint. Didn't he get kicked off his team as well?
Since character is important for gibbs, I highly doubt we even waste any time with this. Just seems like inviting distraction. |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
He would fit in well with other recent Bengal draft pics ! I think he had more than a few problems with coaches and law enforcement ?

I misread it, I thought he got caught with 15 grams. My bad. |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
He has had lots of problems over the last few years. Heck he didn't even actually get into UVa when he got a scolarship and had to go to prep school for a year. The guy has been one issue after another. Groh is a tough guy but to boot someone with the caliber of talent Brooks has you have to have been burned pretty badly and numerous times. I'd pass.

Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
I'd easily spend a 3rd on this guy. He's made his share of mistakes, but when you look at the Risk vs Reward I'd take him in a heart beat. Coming out of high school he was the #1 overall defensive recruit in the country. Some of the thigns the Sirius NFL guys said about this guy were great. Many had talked to him and said he didn't sound like a troubled kid in their eyes.
He could be the best player ever taken in the Supplimental draft. |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
I say spend a ninth rounder on that guy.
|
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
I wouldn't bother with a guy like this.
Doesn't sound like a high character guy that this staff generally looks for. |

Lawerence Phillips proved that talent isn't enough and that its easy to get burned by ignoring the inherent problems a guy might have. and being the #1 HIGH SCHOOL player means nearly nothing in the NFL. lots of players rise and fall in college, and he would have had that chance too, if he hadn't blown it. |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
I went to a UVA - UNC game last year. What caught my eye was Brooks just looked lathargic. It was like he didn't want to be there. I was right behind the bench and he didn't show any fire at all. He is a real talent and has shown that at times but needs to get his head together.

Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
no way. if my memory serves me well i think the old man had some drug issues as well. as long as coach gibbs is here, character means something. and like i said at the beginning, no way

I don't know man. Everyone seems to say that Sean Taylor is a good guy but he is too easily influenced by the dumb stuff his friends do. This guy could turn Taylor into a crackhead before we know it. |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
I think if we get him for a 6th or a 7th, then go for it, although I really think someone is gonna burn a 3rd rounder on this kid. We never draft anyone worth a crap in the 6th or 7th anyway, may as well roll the dice.

You damn right !!!!! It also leads to Junk food, a whole shit load of juice ( NOT WATER ) or drink (see Chappelle's last stand up to get the joke), sleep, more juice, Chipotle (cause that's the only time you have the balls to eat it knowing that you'll pay for it later), juice, chocolate, a sandwich, PS3, any music that get's you "there" like the new Tool or Chilli Peppers or even a brand new or classic Junkyard Band CD can do the trick. I know that was a run on if there ever was one but I'm still recovering from lunch time !!!!!!! |

Our LB core is amazing, i expect more will be coming from Khary Campbell and the young rookie simon, Id be more focused on finding a solid solid backup for our O line. Everyday Im believing this team is gonna rock it out this year. |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
I just read this on profootballtalk.com
POSTED 5:38 p.m. EDT; UPDATED 9:13 p.m. EDT, June 22, 2006 31 TEAMS ATTEND BROOKS WORKOUT A league source has given us the lowdown on the Pro Day workout of former Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks. Per the source, every team was represented at the session, with the sole exception of the Chicago Bears. Another source tells us that the Bears weren't present because they've got no interest in Brooks, due to his baggage. But despite the presence of 31 teams, only one head coach attended -- Mike Nolan of the 49ers. G.M. Randy Mueller was present on behalf of the Miami Dolphins, which is one of the teams presumed to be most interested in Brooks. Brooks weighed in at 260 pounds, a number that many scouts considered to be ideal for him. But to get down to 260, Brooks gave up some strength. As a result, he managed only 19 reps in the 225-pound bench press exercise. In the 40-yard dash, Brooks posted times of 4.68 and 4.72 seconds. In the three-cone drill and the short shuttle, Brooks' form was regarded as poor. Despite a supposed ten weeks of training for the workout, we're told that he had to be shown how to run the three-cone test. All things considered, the thinking is that Brooks helped himself in advance of the upcoming Supplemental Draft, and there's a belief that someone will select him in round two. Indeed, we continue to hear glowing accounts from scouts and other league insiders regarding Brooks' performance in 2004 with the Cavs. Still, there are rumors swirling that his former coaching staff at Virginia hasn't gone out of its way to pimp him at the next level. In this regard, the fact that Brooks was kicked off of the Virginia team by coach Al Groh likely speaks volumes; absent a strong pitch from Groh or his staff, turd-averse teams are likely to pass. But all it takes is one team to pull the trigger. And in the chess match that is the Supplemental Draft all it takes are two teams with an interest in the player to get him taken a round or two earlier than he'd be selected if lumped in with the full draft pool. |
Re: Do we burn a mid to late rounder on Ahmad Brooks?
Why does PFT always have to work "turd" into their articles?

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that right away.
