Lady in the water

Hmmm, still not sure what I think of this one. Not M. Night's best work for sure.

M Night has only made one movie that can unequivocally be described as a great movie and that movie the Sixth Sense. Everything else he has put out since leans to the garbage side of the spectrum.

I though "Unbreakable" - if it isn't viewed through the "Sixth Sense" prism - is a great movie. Since everyone was waiting for the reveal, it lacked the impact of 6th Sense.

Re: Lady in the water

Before he did Sixth Sense he did a small movie called Praying with Anger that I thought was really good.

Re: Lady in the water

I liked The Village too.

I think he set the bar so high with the sixth sense it's awfully hard to repeat that success. It's hard to watch one of his movies now and not expect a twist.

lady in the water, hmmm. I heard many people saying "that sucked" while walking out. If you take it as a fantasy movie its alright. It wasn't good though because they just were going over the same thing over and over and kept on messing up in the process so they had to do it again. It was different than anyother movie i have seen. I guess the story line was kind of interesting but nothing great at all. B- for the BSB.

M.Night has best work ?? There was almost a riot during the Village when at the end we found it they were trying to live tax free on a wildlife reserve.
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo MNight.

Your mindset heading into this film definitely makes a difference. If you're waiting for the twist, don't because there isn't one. If you're expecting a horror film, don't because it isn't one.

I wish I knew a little more about it before seeing it, I might have enjoyed it more.

Re: Lady in the water

The whole movie critic to public understanding is full of it. 2 Thumbs or this and that is a wretched and horrible way to tell people what a movie is about. Id expect for these critics to get paid as much as they do, to expand on their professional standing and vocabulary beyond raising an extremity.

I liked 6th sense, but basically nothing else he's ever done.

he's a good guy though.

Re: Lady in the water

yeah this is by no means a horror movie. Its more a comedy than a horror movie. it is a fantasy movie and it is different than most movies i have seen.

"The Descent" is the best horror movie I've seen this decade... opens wide release next weekend- i'd highly suggest everyone see it if they're into that kinda stuff.

I thought it was ok, not great but I didn't hate it.

I liked it more than I thought I would but I agree with the general consensus that 6th Sense is his only great movie. I hated unbreakable personally and the village was a huge let down that was pretty to figure out.

and I too can't wait to see descent this weekend and pulse next weekend now that pulse is R rated. I refuse to go see pg-13 horror movies anymore.

Apparently you've all forgotten M. Night's seminal work writing the literary prose that would become the screenplay for Stuart Little.

signs was awful... i recommend reading this article before considering signs...

Some of you might recognize this guys webpage... he's quite possibly the biggest a**hole on the planet, but also one of the funniest

Re: Lady in the water

I think the Descent looks pretty decent and I'd actually pay to go see it.

However, I think Pulse looks terrible. It's another Japanese horror remake and the problem with those is that what we find scarey isn't always the same as what they do. I've read that in Japanese culture ghosts and spirits inhabiting things like houses or electronics are much more frieghtening than they are here (for most people).
I do think ghosts (in movies) can be scarey if they are done right, but i just feel like none have been in an American remake.
I just want to watch a movie that scares the hell out of me and won't allow me to sleep for a few nights like they used to when I was a kid.

Back on topic, I actually have to say that I've liked all of M Nights movies up until this point, but obviously none were as good as the Sixth Sense. I think the biggest problem with his movies is the way they are marketed to the public. If you remember, The Village was billed as the scariest movie in years but it really wasn't a horror movie at all. So most people went in thinking they were going to be all freaked out like they were watching The Shining in a snowbound hotel, but they ended up being disappointed by what the movie turned out to be.
Ok, good times...

pg-13 = 5-10x the money.
