Larry Michael really sucks
 

I do not know if this has been a thread before(I am sure it has), but Larry Michael really sucks. He is very boring to listen to, and honestly quite annoying. His questions suck as well, they are stupid ones like "How does it feel to be a Redskins", "How is coach Gibbs", basically stuff that we already know, and he never really asks good questions. I am sure someone from above in the organization tells him not to be controversial, but still he needs to atleast keep me awake. At one point, he said that he had been getting complaints that he doesn't push it, so he tried to be more pushing, but he didn't do shit. Seriously he really sucks, and needs to head out.

I used to listen to Sonny, Sam, and Frank every single game. I haven't listened to the radio broadcast since Larry Michael replaced Frank with himself. I won't listen to them ever again until Larry has been replaced. I hate the guy.

I agree. Hearing Larry Michael shout "Touchdown Washington Redskins" isn't the same as when Frank did it. Larry Michael gets excited about the littlest things. "OMG THE REDSKINS JUST GOT A FIRST DOWN. YEAHHHHHH!!!!" and his weekly grass updates.

I think he's alright. Then again I didn't grow up with Sonny, Sam and Frank, so obviously you local guys have more of a connection with that broadcast team.

It could be either he doesn't realize he's being boring or that he's ego driven and thinks he is secure in his job, that he can get by just trying to come across as a fan favorite. I'm glad somebody said it.

I may take some heat over this but Sam Huff may be the worst announcer in sports. I typically correct him at least once a game and that is while I am listening to the radio in the car and he is watching the game. He really should hang them up. He hasn't made any sense for at least two years.

Larry is Snyder's chosen one. What do you expect?

I was real excited about the Redskins radio show with Larry until it actually started. I think he's a terrific interviewer, but when he's not interviewing, I was getting bored. If he would keep to the interivews it would be fine. Honestly, I'm a die hard Skins fan, and record Larry's show daily (and Riggo's), but I can't stand to listen to Larry's show.

btw, Bram, adds nothing . . . just IMHO. He spent the first week being combative with Riggo - go figure?

Huff is awful. I used to work with Frank Herzog and he'd tell me how he and Sonny would take bets on how soon into the broadcast Huff would just doze off.

Larry is just a really smarmy smug guy. I don't care much for him.

I couldnt agree more that larry has to go and Frank Herzog should be back.Last year i turned on comcast to see what was on and there was Frank working a batton twrilling contest.I tell you it just broke my heart.

I cant imagine getting any good questions on redskins radio since the dan snyder owns the radio station and the redskins control the content. Look forward to lots of "How does it feel to be a redskin?" questions because redskins radio will not be critical of the team. DS wont allow it.

Larry Michael was an executive within the company/station/whatever that owned the Redskins broadcast rights. He was the boss to the boss of Sonny, Sam, & Frank. He basically weaseled his way into the play by play role. The whole deal was pretty shady.

Who was the TV announcer that kept calling Mark Brunell 'Steve Brunell' at the beginning of last season?
That became a running joke between my friends and I for the entire season. Everyone became Steve, we even called into one of the radio shows and refered to Brunell as Steve on the air about 5 times only to have Larry Michael say "sounds like someone had too much to drink." It may have been the only time he made me laugh all season.

i haven't really noticed how bad the radio crew has been. i used to listen to SS&F and turn the sound off on the tv when i had regular cable but now that i have Directv there is a couple of second delay. If I listen to the radio I know what happens before the play even starts on the tv. For those that have satelite radio, does the timing match up with satelite tv?

Larry Michael is a snake. He got to where he is by backstabbing. I've heard that he forced his way into Snyder's inner circle, even. The relationship between Snyder and Michael isn't what everyone expects it to be.

Okay, now we got something payne, if that is the case then there is a lot more to the story, but I think a lot of people are crushing him for the stuff on the surface, his reporting and not his past.

I think the deal with the Redskins radio team was this:

Sonny, Sam, and Frank had an aggregate age of about 230 years. While that meant they had spent (a whole lot of ) years building a passionate fan base, having three senior citizens as the voice of the franchise isn't a long term solution. And while Frank Herzog was hardly the weakest link in the booth (I won't argue with the case against Sam Huff at all), he also has the smallest fan base because of his role in the booth. So, by replacing the play-by-play voice, there will be a transitional voice for when Sam and/or Sonny need to be replaced due to age or infirmity.

Sucks to be Frank, sucks to be a listener. But a wise long term solution.

It is not only the fact that he asks shitty questions, I understand a part of that is due to Snyder(who I like most of the time too). Regardless he is sleazy and very boring, and he could still improve on that without pushing buttons. And I can dislike whoever I want, I really hate people who bend over and take it. Or in this case, people who see the money, run towards it, bend over, and willingly stick it up their ass.

I have to disagree. Having listened to SS&F since the early 80's they were the voice of the Dynasty years of Gibbs v1.0. They were an aural connection to the glory days of yesteryear. They never were very good to be honest. Huff is and always has been a total doofus on the air, and Sonny is a woeful homer, but that was part of the charm. All the while, Frank was the rock, the voice of reason, the stability of the team while Sonny and Sam would bicker over the mundane. Frank, as the pbp guy was the engine that drove the show.

IMHO, the smart thing to do if the team needed new blood would have been to bring in a younger voice in the booth by bringing along a younger ex-player type gradually, starting with a year or two on the sideline, then later bump Huff from the booth. This could have happened over a period of two or three years lessening the eventual back-lash from fans. If and when Hertz needed replacing (he's far from washed out, and nowhere near where Summerall was during his last couple years), you have to bring in an outsider with true pbp calling skills. This would likely be someone who has been calling college games for a while who has developed the skill to do play-by-play.

Also, it takes a LOT of skill to be able to call a football game, and you can't just take any bum off the street and plug him in the booth and say go like you can with baseball. Kicking a quality guy like Frank to the street without a legit game-caller was a poor management decision (I'll confess my ignorance of whatever conniving or politicing L.M. used to get into the position). It is even worse when you consider Frank's history with the team and community. No conceivable excuse can justify that.

He is what he is......OK!!! I say give the guy some room to get better. After the season is over then lets do this again.
