Where Will Alfonso Go?
Less than an hour to go before the non-waiver trading deadline. And, of course, the biggest name out there is Alfonso Soriano. Will he stay in DC or will he go?
If he goes I really hope it's to the Twins (formerly the Washington Senators). I like the Twins-I've incorrectly picked them to win the World Series the past three years. Plus now I live just a few minutes away from their AA affiliate-the New Britain Rock Cats. They've got a lot of great young talent, some of which the Nats could definitely use. And Soriano would instantly make them a strong favorite for the AL wild card. Of course, I'm more a Nats fan than a Twins fan so I hope he stays. Actually, the dream scenario is he's traded for prospects then re-signs in the offseason. |
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
I want the Tigers to get him if anyone is. It would be nice to see a crappy team have a chance this year.
They're MY Cleveland Browns. :( |

That would be the best thing that could happen, but I don't know if he would even want to come back. |
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
You like Cleveland, TMC?
Changed my mind, he stays. |
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
It makes the most amount of sense for the team to trade him, but i'd like to see him stay and resign for a few more seasons. I was at the game a few months ago when he hit 3 HRs against the Braves. I was really hammered and I threw my hat onto the field after the third as I screamed "HAT TRICK, HAT TRICK!" I really liked that hat though...

It could be worse. You could have thrown it after the second HR. |

Maybe they should call back George Brett? |
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
I'm leaving work now, so when I get home in a half hour I'm expecting him to be on the Marlins.

Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
Latest word that I heard is that Florida, yes Florida, is a possible candidate. His salary will equal the rest of the teams (not really).
TAFKAS, until the Nationals came, I was a Texas Rangers fan (still am) due to their historical ties with the Washington Senators. |

People used to laugh at me that I said I was a Grizzlies fan....Well, who's laughing now? Well, everyone else still. But my day will come |

That's my second favorite NL team. Nationals, Orioles (though seriously reconsidering that), Marlins/Twins or Twins/Marlins-those would be my teams |
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
Soriano stayed put, but Greg Maddux is going to LA...
|
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
TAFKAS, do you have every team ranked in terms of how much you like them? That's a interesting way to watch sports.

And Julio Lugo also to the Dodgers. Still a possibility Soriano has been dealt, just not announced yet |
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
Wait, now they're saying they're working on a long-term deal to keep Soriano in DC

Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
Nice move by the Royals picking up Ryan Shealy. He's supposedly can't miss
|
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
if AS doesn't resign, it's a waste... it means we lost wilkerson for draft picks. signing him would be huge though. he's someone everyone wants to see.
|
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
Wilkerson hasn't done much in Texas, so it's not a total loss, and when you're striving to rebuild a very depleted farm system, 2 draft picks are like gold.
But, Soriano has said he wants to stay, and he's happy here. So the Nats should do what they can to resign him and make him the face of the franchise. |
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
Anybody want to buy a Nats Wilkerson jersey? (I'll make it a package deal with the Coles/Ramsey jerseys)
|
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
Keep the Wilkerson jersey. In today's baseball world he'll be back in DC before too long.
|
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
Good call. I bought it half way through last season because it was only like $40 at the mall. The funny thing was that my mom said that I better hope he won't get traded and I just laughed her off. Oh well, Alfonso's the man.
|
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
if you want a nats jersey, get zimmerman. he's the only safe bet.
|
Re: Where Will Alfonso Go?
I bought the red version (with no name on the back) earlier this year. I can't find a picture anywhere but it's one of the few jerseys that I own that I would wear like a normal shirt.

I don't think they did earlier in the season. |
