For once, Redskins could live up to hype
Here is a link to the article in The Washington Post by Michael Wilbon.
For once, Redskins could live up to hype - washingtonpost.com Highlights - MSNBC.com Here is a sampler, "But optimism doesn't begin to describe what's happening here, in Washington, where the Redskins appear to be positively loaded. The players sense it. Close observers sense it. Mark Brunell, probably never given to a word of overstatement in his life, said yesterday that anything short of a championship run this season would be a disappointment." I don't know about all Skins fans, but In think every year is going to be the year. |
Re: For once, Redskins could live up to hype
all i need is kornheiser say he is ready to load up the bandwagon because once the skins start winning, we will probably see alot of new faces around here

Re: For once, Redskins could live up to hype
Jeez, the expectations this year are astronomical. If the Skins don't trounce their opponent in the Super Bowl, some of us might need to be put on suicide watch.

Re: For once, Redskins could live up to hype
This year on paper we look very strong and should make a strong push to the SB. We have the players and coaches that we have not had in a very long time but I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm going to sit back and let the season unfold. Yes, I will be jumping up and down yelling and all that stuff.

Re: For once, Redskins could live up to hype
Is it odd that I'm already losing sleep thinking about the upcoming season? I've always hated having high expectations for anything because I am a huge pessimist, but I really can't help it this year. I finally feel like it could all come together like it did when I was a kid.
Looking back at some of the recent Super Bowl winning teams I see no reason why this can't be the Skins year. We obviously have the defense, we have the weapons on offense, and he have the coaching staff to gain the advantage. God damnit, I just want the actual season to start! |

Tony K needs a lot more than a preseason to fire up the bandwagon...he's getting cranky in his old age and might refuse until we're like 10-0! Speaking of which, I occasionally love to go back and read all the Bandwagon columns, which are archived on the Post's website. Figured you all might enjoy a little trip down memory lane... Re: For once, Redskins could live up to hype
Maybe it is too much to ask, but I wish there could be one season where the Skins roster was settled at the QB position. I know Brunnell is the clear starter, and just maybe we will end the season with the same QB we start with. However my mental well being is thrown into question every time someone hits Brunell. The guy is going to be 36 in September and has been taking a beating behind the line for years. I just wish we had a proven, reliable backup.

Wait. was that a PRO-Redskin article from Wilbon? Wha?

I just wish we had a proven, reliable backup.
I'm kinda tired of hearing how our QB situation is unsettled. And this has virtually nothing to do with what Ric-va-redskins just said. Yeah, some teams in the NFL have it better. Yeah, our backups are a guy who hasnt started in 7 years and a guy who has never taken a snap. Yeah, the starter is going to be 36 years old. So what. If you look at the negatives, you can find a problem with any team in the league. The Colts and Pats have backups worse than ours. Ditto with the Seahawks. Completely unproven.
But looking at the positives: -Brunell is a really, really accurate passer. -Brunell still has good legs in his old age and they have kept us in games many a time. -Brunell has had great success in the playoffs, and finally has the weapons to take the next step. -Gibbs has never, ever let poor QB play get in the way of a playoff run. -Neither has Al Saunders. -Gregg Williams did once, but thats why hes a defensive mastermind. -Jason Campbell to many reports, is exceeding expectations -Jason Campbell could be the most physically gifted QB that Gibbs has ever coached. -Todd Collins isn't expected to do anything, but plans to contribute. I'm a little worried about the D-Ends, but if Carter can dominate on the pass rush, it will make up for any shortcomings he has in the run game. Philip Daniels is closer to the end than Brunell is. I'm worried about the O-line depth, but if we sign Lincoln Kennedy, I'm no longer worried. But yeah, I'd say the QB situation in Washington is pretty solid. |

Injuries, turmoil, trades etc. Too many elements to count can de-rail our SB plans. I prefer to take it one game at a time, starting with preseason and hope for a relatively injury free season. Last year, losing Patten and R. Thomas hurt us in the playoffs. Sure the WR depth is better but what about the O Line? God forbid we lose Jansen, Samuels, Rabach etc. Who do we have to fill their shoes? Ray Brown is gone. Maybe we can convince him to re-sign. He's only 64 years old. |
Re: For once, Redskins could live up to hype
Lets just hope we can get through the preseason without any devastating injuries. Once that is over, we can sit back and take it week by week. There will be ups and downs, but this team is gonna roll! Dammit, is August over yet?

Re: For once, Redskins could live up to hype
Does the OL really concern people??
If we want to talk depth, sure, that's always a concern. What team doesn't have depth concerns along the OL, especially if one of their stars goes down. But if we're talking about our starting five, I have no worries with this group whatsoever. |

We have the be very careful. If we are thinking this God only knows that the players are thinking. We need to keep are heads in check and make sure we champion the small things that bothered us last year. Traditionally, Gibbs teams improve each year. This should be no exception, but most of the teams that we should challenge, improved in weak areas as well. |

But if we're talking about our starting five, I have no worries with this group whatsoever.
Let me tell you why the OL concerns me. Initially, I cannot remember a successful Redskin season that did not have dominant offensive line play. Band-aids held the OL together last year due to injuries. I think Casey Rabach, and Ray Brown proved to be the move valuable thoughout the year. I cannot remember seeing a guy at Ray's age play the line at the level he did. Hell this guy was a former Scab player. His back up sucks, that is why we signed Rabach. I am not looking for Grimm, Bostic and Jacoby. I just want to feel that we can pass protect and run block at a high level in this new offense. Brunell might not have 5 good licks left in that leg. Is is true that Jensen look smaller than last year? |
