Bold Predictions:
 

1) Campbell becomes the Redskins starter this year. He will surpass Brunell. If Brunell goes down with an injury, or should I say, when Brunell goes down with an injury; he won't be able to pry the starting job from Jason Campbell.

2) Taylor Jacobs makes the squad and makes 25+ catches this year. Im still standing by my boy. Goodbye Mr. Patten.

patten's sickness may allow jacobs to make the team again. He better start showing something though.

If brunell goes down, i see collins finishing the game and campbell starting the next one.

He showed it today. Made the best catch and run of camp, made nice catches, crisp routes, and hes the only player that stayed after to keep working.

I have been less than impressed with Collins thus far.

they both started a bunch of games last year, but patten looked like a real receiver and TJ looked like a douche, and a crappy one at that. he's also hasn't even been as good as jimmy farris thus far.

Daseal if you say jacobs looked good today that is great. I don't have anything personally against him and may the best guy get the job and that is the way it is going to be. Gibbs has made very good decisions when it comes to player evaluation since his return. I love how jacobs stayed after to workout. That is great. That is exactly what he needs to be doing. We will all see how our boy does at the scrimmage tommorrow. Last year, he got hurt. I was devistated when he got hurt because at that time we were all worried about the WR position as it was. I don't even remember how serious it was but i do remember him going in early.

From what I've heard, Mike Espy is the talk of camp. Sounds to me like TJ needs to worry about him rather than Patten.

Thus my title, Bold Predictions. I doubt Espy makes it personally, he's shown flashes, but once you get to 4th (maybe even 3rd) receiver it comes down to major special teams contributions. Which Jacobs and Thrash give them. I see Moss, Lloyd, Randel El, Jacobs and Thrash making the squad. We'll be WR and RB heavy.

The guy has had his chances. He's staying late after practice because he has to.

Patten should be back on Monday, and Jacobs will move one step closer to the cut list.

Now you throw CFL in that sentence and you might be on to something. Here's one for you...this team will only go as far as Brunell takes us PERIOD. I just dont think collins is the answer and as far as campbell right now I dont think anyone knows what he is capable of. Only time will tell. Let me clear something up right now. What has Taylor Jacobs done since he was drafted? the only answer I can come up with is collect a paycheck.

1) I agree with your prediction about Campbell. It's like having a new car in the garage for a year but never have taken it out on the road. He will play some role in the regular season even if Brunnell stays healthy.

My prediction about our QB's: The Redskins fans will be very short with Brunnel this year due to raised expectation. When he has a rough patch this season as every QB does, the fans will be demanding for Campbell. Brunnell is in tough situation, near perfection is expected from him this year.

2) Jacobs prediciton: when the real hitting starts either in the Ravens scrimage or in preseasons games, Jacobs will tail off or get hurt. I hope and wish that Jacobs becomes great, I just don't think he has the toughness to be an every down WR in the NFL.

Daseal - I think people are impatient with Jacobs because so much has been talked about his potential, but he has been weak.

He's a 4th year WR. How long does it take the average WR to develop. At least four years. Brunell is a first option (moss), second option (cooley), 3rd option (portis) type of QB. He throws it away quick. At games I've watched Jacobs get good seperation down field and never get thrown to, something you can't watch and evaluate from home sitting on your couch.

That all may be true Daseal, but the simple fact is he's running out of chances here. Yes it takes WRs a while to develop sometimes, but he hasn't shown [U]anything[/U] at all in game situations. Being a training camp hero doesn't get you anywhere in this league, sooner or later he needs to step on the field and make a difference when the bullets are live. All we've heard from him is excuses. The DBs are too fast, he's always hurt, the gameplan doesn't come his way... enough already.

Unless he really impresses the rest of the way he's a likely cut. It's really a simple decision, him or Patten. If Patten is 100% there's no way Jacobs beats him out.

My prediction regarding Brunell is as long as he's healthy and playing well, Campbell won't get a sniff of playing time.

I do however have a lot of confidence in Campbell. Yes he's a complete unknown, but I have a feeling if he's pressed into duty we'll be alright.

Matty while I agree with you and others about Jacobs and his lack of productivity thus far, I think the decision about who to cut between him and Patten comes down to the importance of that roster spot. The 4th, 5th, and 6th receivers (if we keep six) have to play ST. Patten is not a ST player, so I beg to ask the question again; What is Patten going to do on Sunday's if he's on the team? Will we use that roster spot for a guy who will only catch a pass or two here and there, and make no other contribution or use the spot for a more serviceable player? Patten was signed as a free agent, Jacobs a 2nd round DC, which player has the most up-side long term for the position and salry?

some players just can't play in the nfl. we'll see what happens, but my money is on TJ being cut. If campbell can play, it wouldn't be surprising to see him starting some games. Injuries happen quite frequently in the NFL.

I agree about the 4th WR needing to play teams. Patten has done that before and I think they were planning on working him into the special teams mix before he got sick.

upside is probably patten (proven he can have 800 yards and he's relatively cheap, and willing to be a #4 without complaining, i'm sure he'd play ST if he had too). He's fast enough that he could play teams, but putting him there might be risking injury for no good reason. We have lots of good ST player though (shawn springs, sean taylor, etc etc) and our other depth (mccune, doughty, havner) will probably have more than enough guys that keeping 1 non-ST spot on the depth chart won't matter.

and randle el will play special teams...so our 3rd receiver will play it instead of our 4th
