Should We Resign Dockery???

After this year, providing Dockery shows us the same thing he showed us last year, should we resign him??? I think he's ok (as do most people) but should we spend money for a free agent when we have a solid guy that knows the system at left guard??

Resign him! We need to make sure we keep our o-line together as long as we can. They did a solid job last year and I expect the same thing this year. Dock is a huge part of that and he definetly belongs here.

RESIGN HIM !!!! He's been here for a couple years and he HAS improved during that time. Continuity is a good thing on the O-Line. I say keep the Dirtbags together.

I would have said yeah until I saw he was only a 79 in Madden. Now I'm not so sure....

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

Derrick Dockery just keeps getting better. I don't think the Redskins need to put 5 Pro Bowl caliber guys on their o line. There isn't really a need for it. Derrick Dockery is a pretty good left guard. I think he deserves a spot on this team. I don't think the Skins could go out and try to sign a big name free agent to be the left guard and be positive that he can not only start, but pick up the offense and provide a significant upgrade to Derrick Dockery.

Dockery has a few things going for him. He's been here for a few years, he keeps getting better and he's a pretty young football player. All of those point to a guy this team needs to keep to me.

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

Depends on what he wants as compensation. He is not deserving of a big money contract. He is an adequate player up to now, he deserves an average pay rate.
In the mean time we need to keep drafting linemen on both side of the ball and try and develop cheap alternatives and quality backups. The only skill position we really need to address is CB since Springs is nearing the end of his useful career.

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

The team chemistry means more at this point than having another pro bowl type guy there. Dockery has been pretty good in the system, hussles all the time (See 1st Philadelphia game). The way the whole line gels together is far too important for that. On top of that...he's still young and improving. I say resign him x 100.

We have to resign him for consistancy's sake.
Plus, am I mistaken or did I once hear that Bugel loves him?

I'll bet even Portis lobbies for Dock to be signed long term.

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

Definitely, I was hoping that he'd get signed to a long-term deal before this season. You know he's gonna command some big $ on the market, always happens. He's lost weight this year & I bet he's gonna be a beast. Funny that happens when guys are in a contract year!
Dock is a good team guy & he's getting better each year.

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

I'd definitely resign him. He hasn't missed a game yet because of injury, he's young and he's been improving under Buges' tutelage.

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

Samuels is making big money. Jansen is making big money. Thomas is making ridiculous money. Rabach's contract is nothing to be scoffed at.

Dockery's season is one of three outcomes.

1. He improves on last year's performance, and has a great year.
2. He doesn't improve, or regresses.
3. He gets injured.

If # 1, I think he will want a big money long term deal. I'm not saying he won't get paid, but it ties up your cap bad to be paying 5 guys on the oline like probowlers.

If #2, it may be time for a change. If he ends up being a liability on a great offense, we'd be better off replacing him with a young guy who's been working with Bugel, or a first day draft pick.

If #3, he will probably want to resign cheaply to prove he deserves a big payday. I would certainly give him the chance. I would make sure I have starting caliber competition on the roster.

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

I just read somewhere that Dockery lost like 25 pounds and is much more agile. Bugel said something like this year Dockery is going to blow up in a good way for the skins...

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

as someone else said, your biggest friend on a football team is o line continuity. he needs resigned at reasonable money. i think the redskins biggest fear is if mr dockery has a monstorous season and goes to the probowl. then he might walk. you cant have your line eating up that much cap. anyone know how old randy thomas is?

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

Yeah...I think you have to sign him again. Must keep the consistency in the offensive line to make this all work!

Re: Should We Resign Dockery???

I agree with the other posters who mention O-Line consistency. As far as the cap goes, I don't know enough about it. I think the FO has done a pretty good job with the cap (although the media would have you think otherwise), and if they think the cap will work, then I say do it. It also seems to me that O-Linemen peak later than most other positions, and he has progressed steadily over the years.
