Todd Collins who is this guy
Is it me or does this guy suck. I didnt see anything from this guy in the scrimmage or the game last night.
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
There is a very good reason that he hasn’t started a game since 97 and he showed why last night.
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I'd like to see him play with the first team offense before I write him off completely.
Our backup OL was horrible. But his overall decision making wasn't very good. He should have thrown 2 picks and the 2nd one would have been a TD. |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Yup, I was just going to say what Matty said. To his credit, he was about to get sacked almost every play.
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I said it last night, but I thought he looked okay when he wasnt't getting pressured. He seemed to make the right reads and got the ball to the open man.
However, I guess any NFL QB should be able to do that with no one rushing them. On the other hand, if a defender was within 2 yards of him it seemed like he was going to mess himself. |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I could almost hear the Homer Simpson shriek when he was being pressured.
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
he was behind what i consider as the worst back-up o-linemen in the league. He is like a coach. He knows the offense. Al Saunders knows the offense but probably can't QB it. Collins is important as he gives advice to brunell and campbell. Wouldn't be surprised if he coaches under saunders in the future. They are so high up on him and how he helps out. Like gibbs says, at the end of a segment at a meeting about a formation he and saunders ask collins to talk about what he knows, from a QB's perspective, in that formation.
If he is as good as he is said to be you can see him being a QB coach under saunders in the future. I mean, i don't know his skills as a coach but gibbs says he is crucial to campbell's development and i am sure he could do a hell of a job with the information he knows. |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
he appeared to be scared of his own shadow last night.
i guess it,s called preseason football when you play everybody inwhich joe did last night. cincy on the other hand wanted this game in the worst way but again it,s just preseason. |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Campbell played behind the same o-line or worse--he didn't look like a scared rabbit. Collins hit a few nice intermediate routes--the bread and butter of Saunders offense. But, come on. THat was weak.
He'll get a few more chances, so we'll see. |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Safety, INT, Center/QB exchange fumble.
It was a pretty bad performance. The excuses don't matter (and many can be made). What happens in the next 3 pre-season games does. He certainly left the door to the #2 slot on the depth chart pretty wide open. |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
almost 2 int to linemen. one of those was in the endzone which would of been a td
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I hope Collins never has to play in the regular season. That was one of the ugliest performances I've ever seen, next to Alex Smith's regular season game against the Colts last year where he was 9/23, 4 INTs, 2 fumbles (1 lost) for an 8.5 QB rating.
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
like BigSkin said, he's valuable as a resource for the offense. If he's as helpful & team oriented as they say he is, we're lucky he signed with us.
Campbell looked good, but keep in mind that during the regular season we won't be running a "vanilla" offense & his comfort level & poise may be quite different. They're expected to learn a lot in a short period. That's my only concern w/JC. I hope he looked so comfortable because he's been studying the offense like mad. We will need him to play this year. It would be a minor miracle if brunell played all 16+playoffs. |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
the only way he is valuable to the skins is if he never, and i mean never, sets foot on the field and has to take a couple of snaps. i didnt realize how horrible he was until he came to washington
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I've only heard that he KNOWS the offense. I've never heard anyone say he could PLAY in the offense. He obviously can't.
If we brought him in for an emergency QB (if Brunell, Campbell and Randel El are injured) and he's only meant to be someone who can give Campbell pop quizzes on the playbook, it was a good decision to bring him in. If anyone ever envisioned him playing...uh oh. |

what about the classic tim hasselbeck 0.0 QB rating in 2003 |

1. I didn't see that one. :) 2. He wasn't touted as the future of the franchise like Smith. 3. He wasn't even #1 on the depth chart. 4. The passing #s were close, but Timmy didn't fumble twice with his 4 INTs. I think Smith's game was worse since he's supposed to be the starter and star of the team. His whole rookie season was just embarassing. |

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Interesting I did not see todd there? maybe have not posted it yet
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Tim was a solid and dependable guy-- In the preseason that is. I felt confident in him- he's not terrible. I just liked the title of this thread" Who is this guy" what is this amateur night? Apparently so Todd.

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
The only purpose I see Collins serving is to show Jason Campbell precisely what NOT to do as a QB. I think Saunders brought him in to show everyone how to run the opposite of what he wants to run.
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
i mean its been said before...but it is kinda hard keeping your cool when 3 Dlinemen are rushing you....i mean i know campbell had the same line and all but colins had less than a second before he got owned....Horrible safety tho.....
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Yeah, the botched handoff set me into hysterics.
I wanted to tell him it would be okay, but that would have been a lie. |

if thats true, i'd says he did a pretty good job! |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy

I was thinking the same thing. This thread says serves as much to illustrate the deficiencies of Collins as it does the woeful performance of the backup O-linemen. About the only thing they did worse than pass block was run block. Carter, Cartwright and Broughton ran into a wall of surging defensive linemen. Atrocious. The top two vets who are expected to backup the starting five are Tyson Walter and Mike Pucillo. Those are the two to keep your eye on. God help us if there are more than two injuries at any given point in the season. |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
out of curiosity, did jason campbell run under the same back-up o-line?
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Campbell was probably behind the same line.
As far as th RBs getting stuffed, I thought Carter was dancing around too much, but I guess that won't be an issue. I feel bad for that guy. |

Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Collins giving up that safety 1st qtr 2:14 was really RG #56 , RT 78's fault. 56 has a slow step and hands made up butter.
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
I thought Collins had a GREAT performance. He ensured that Campbell is #2.
He can't even take a knee; he falls over! |

Yeah, but girls playing QB at family picnics usually toss the ball to the people running towards them. This is NOT a normal NFL QB reaction. It was like watching Ramsey all over again. |

Honestly I thought Ramsey was much better lol. |

Speaking of which, did Ramsey get any snaps during the Jets game? |
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
We will all get a good comparison of Ramsey and Collins, because they will basically face each other this Saturday. Once Pennington and Brunell step off the field.
|
Re: Todd Collins who is this guy
Having him come in after Brunell was to ease Campbell into the backing up Brunell. Before the preseason is over, Campbell will be taking snaps against opposing starting defenses.

Exoffender, I totally agree. Collins needs to be teaching and holding the clipboard, not taking snaps on the field. |
