Mortensen on ESPN radio

Hey guys just a heads up. Mort will be on the Dan Patrick show today talking about CP's injury. Once I hear it I'll try to recap what he said.:thumb:

my guess is that he will play week one against minnesota

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

he will play week one I am sure. I just hope they dont try to push back and play again in preseason.

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

In a nutshell...

The ligaments around the shoulder have stretched and they have to get them to tighten up to keep the shoulder stable. Should ready in three weeks. Mort said Skins were 'nervous' about the injury.

I doubt he will even dress for the remaining preseason games.

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

They'll just rehab the hell out of him the next 3 weeks and rest him. I don't think his status for week 1 will be in doubt.

While we're at it I wouldn't let Betts see much meaningless action either.

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

I've had that injury before. It gets a little sore and swollen up, the main problem is the joint is prone to separation again over the next few days and weeks. He'll be totally ready to go by opening day.

bridaman51 08-14-2006 01:53 PM

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

lets hope not. I listened to Mike Golic this morning describe the injury ( he did the same thing) and he played through it and had surgery in the offseason. he said bing a running back (as opposed to D-Line) it should not affect him as much as it did him so he should be fine.

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

I won't say it's a blessing in disguise, because it's not, but let's look at the silver lining. At least he won't (SHOULDN'T) be playing in any more preseason games this year where he could have gotten hurt worse.

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

All this Portis talk is overshadowing the fact that Chris Clemons sprained his knee. I don't know how serious the injury is, and I realize he's no CP. However, he's a pretty key contributor on passing downs and I'd hate to see him go down

bridaman51 08-14-2006 01:56 PM

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

They say clemons sprain was a third degree sprain which is the worst. he is out for several weeks from what I read. I will try to locate the link.

I hope he gets a series in the last preseason game. Get him back in the flow of things.

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

This is not an injury to be rushed back in. If it does not heal it will require surgery and then he is done for the year. If he comes back for that last preseason game he better be way past 100%

That's impossible!

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

sorry, what I mean is past 100% in the fact that he has been there for a little while. He wont be there until atleast week 1.

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

Is he going to have to wear one of those goofy looking shoulder braces?

My main concern at this point is that he may be hesitant to take on a hit or throw a stiff arm with the left. That could mean less break aways, and it could hurt him when it comes to picking up the blitz.

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

there is absolutley no reason for portis to play at all again in the preseason. i wouldnt play betts a whole lot either. lets see some of the no names and see if any can contribute on special teams

amorentz 08-14-2006 04:03 PM

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

I agree...no more portis until the regular season when he starts piling up the yards. One thing that will be interesting is to see Betts in the offense. Now he's no Portis, but Saunders was looking to get him more involved and it will be interesting to see if he fits well.

Aside to Matty: Love the new white background...loads so much faster here at work for me...plus it looks less like Im on a Skins fansite!

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

Got an idea... can you do different profiles for different backgrounds? Like one that doesn't even have the banner so it's VERY DL at work?

Yep, keep both of them out. We know what Betts and Portis can do. Lumsden, Broughton and Cartwright can carry us through the preseason.

By the way, would Manuel White be more of a blocking/catching fullback in this offense or will he get about the same number of carries as a tailback would?

TheMalcolmConnection 08-14-2006 04:13 PM

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

I liked that one catch he had. Made a nice move.

I think white played decent at FB and caught well

Re: Mortensen on ESPN radio

i think the only way you get in shape for the regular season is by playing some in the preseason!i do'nt portis will play anymore this preseason, but every player needs to play some in the preseason,no matter who it is!

Mort also reported that Taylor Jacobs dislocated an ovary while trying to to paint his toe nails
