Bring back Stephen Davis
Just a thought but with our RB injuries why not take a shot at Stephen Davis. He was recently given a physical and passed so he is at least healthy enough to make a roster. It looks like he will be visiting Philly tomorrow which I really hate to see. WHEN HEALTHY he is still a very good power runner. He would be a great change of pace to Portis when he is back and should be able to stay healthy since he wouldn't be rushing 20 times a game. If we could get him cheap I would love to see him back on the roster.

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
I kinda agree, it would be nice to use him kinda how pittsburgh used Bettis, short yards and goal line. And let Portis handle the bulk of the work, I am not saying to only use Portis between the 20's, I mean use him in the red zone but when it is like 1st and goal at the 3yard line the use Davis... Imagine trying to shed a block from Sellers only to have Davis run you over!!!

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
too old, too injured, and too much money. i think that about covers it
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
if wants to play bad enough, he will play for vet min...
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
Does he even have knees?
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
I'm happy with Betts.
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
Davis is done.
We have a younger and more capable backup already on the roster. Ladell Betts. |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
betts was drafted to be the next stephen davis, at this point i prefer him because of davis' age, and health

Money talks. |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
We should put up a schedule, so we know who will start this topic next week.
Even if Davis had another 100 carries left in him - which is seriously in doubt - would bringing him back be a good thing for a young team? Knee surgery last year, microfracture surgery on the knees the year before - these are bad things. I would suggest that it says more about the desperation of the Eagles than it does the eroding skill level of a once very good player. |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
Why even consider?
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
i say bring him back for the vet minimum. He started here so why not let him finish here. The philadelphia daily new report reports him there for a physical but also said the skins are in contact with him as well. Davis may not have much left in the tank but he spell betts and portis better than rock could and especially davis and sellars on the goaline. Davis is and will always be a skin in my book. Spurrier screwed us by replacing him with Trung canidate. That was the answer!!!!

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
If we bring SD back we will be assured of having fumbles at critical times in critical games.
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
Stephen Davis? What year is this?
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
stephen davis got his ass kicked by michael westbrook
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
According to RedskinRadio, the only contact between Davis and the Redskins was initiated by Davis. The Redskins "like" Davis, but are happy with the RBs on the roster.

Haha that really pissed me off at the time, thankfully we dont have that chemistry and drama. Lack of focus like that lead to teams like the Jets smashing us. |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
At least give Davis a tryout. Who knows he could be a short yardage goal line masher like Gerald Riggs was.
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
screw it, bring him in for vet minimum and let him retire a skin
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
If this were 5 years ago, I'd say sure. Davis has been more of a liability to the Panthers than an asset and he wouldn't make a miracle comeback with us.
We have RB depth. We could use the roster spot better in SO many other ways. |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
Lets not forget that until last year he held our rushing record, and the last time we made the playoffs it was pretty much on his back. Like others have said I would let him on for the VET min, get one more year and let him get a piece of that SB dream.

I live in NC know, Davis will tell anyone with a mic that he preferred NC and had his best years there. |

12 Rushing TDs last year and zero fumbles lost? A liabillity? 1444 yards rushing; 14 TDs; and zero fumbles lost in 2003? A liability? Not sure I see any support for that statement. |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
I think the answer is fairly simple ... he does not want to play here.

Except he (allegedly) approached our FO about a meeting. I'm not sure the offensive philosophy of Al Saunders requires a bruising back who has gotten progressively slower in the past few years. |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
It's the secret gagdet play!
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
From what I saw Saturday, we already have a great short yardage alternative in Mike Sellars. Much as I love Davis, this is not an area of need.
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
Just no need. Too many other options that can bring the same or better to the table. Sellers can bang. Nemo can bang. Hell Rock can bang probably as good as Davis at this point. He doesn't catch the ball very well out of the backfield and he'd probably break a hip if he tried.
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
hell no
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
This idea has absolutely no merit.
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
I have always loved Stephen. I was sorry to see him go but rationalized it as being necessary to Spurrier's scheme. Now, he is a bit beat up and would cost us a roster spot - a spot for which we have young talent available (who do you cut? Rock? Broughton (okay maybe)? Lumsden? Sellers?
My wife (btw) says "SIGN HIM NOW!!! DAMN YOU SPURRIER!!!!" (Davis was her favorite). Of course, if he signs with Philly, he will be dead to me. Of course, |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
Davis did meet with the Eagles on Monday, but I heard the physical (I think it was the physical, not the workout) didn't meet Philly's expectations
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
i'd like to see it happen, but put davis and snyder in same state together and
remember what happened to davis at the hands of westbrook a few years back?that's what will happen to snyder if he and davis meet again!i do'nt blame davis for being pissed, snyder and numnuts spurrier did him shitty i thought! |

seems he's been contacted by the Skins. If he comes back, I can pull his old Jersey out of the closet. |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
I still sport my Davis jersey. Hes a class act, and I would love to see him back in the B&G. And its hard for me not to be excited about the idea of him being a limited option in the backfield. But we do have to many young guns that have a spot here, and deserve to be. I hate spunkmaster spurrier for alot of different reasons, but letting Davis go is on top of the list. But I guess Davis got the better end of it in the long run. He will find a spot somewhere and do what they need him to do. We need to pass on this one.
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
Davis always been a class act and I've always been a FAN. Even when he played for Carolina. Saw him break the Redskins season rushing record on a cold rainy day at Fed Ex. Same day people cheered in the stadium when Tony Banks got injured. Those were such sad times at Fed Ex while Stephen Davis quietly with noone watching made Redskins history atleast til last season. I'd say give him a tryout if he wants and sign him for vet min. He ain't Maurice Claurette and Denver or Kansas City never seems to have a lack of 'featured backs'. FUGGIT. Bring him in if he can still run. Won't be starting, but he'd be a legend if he came back. Both the Redskins and Davis know this and Portis is pissed. HAHHAHAHHAHAHA. GO SKINS!!!!
|
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
davis is probably better than nemo or manny white or any other non contributer, but it'd basically be a 1 year deal with almost no playing time.
so far i've seen nothing from nemo that'd lead me to believe he'll make the team, much less become our dedicated short yardage guy. maybe sellers could though.. |
Re: Bring back Stephen Davis
Get real. Carolina is going to cut him. Too old, bad knees. Remember Mike Barrow?

Carolina is GOING to cut him?!?! Where have you ben? He was let go at the end of last season, why do you think he is trying to get a job with the eagles? |
