Lumsden and Patterson Cut
Punters Galore - Training Camp Insider
"Jason just called from the practice field, where the team is working on more stuff it won't use in preseason, to say that they've signed Johnson and defensive back Vernon Fox. They've cut Jesse Lumsden and Dimitri Patterson." |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
Looks like someone already beat me to the comment about Johnson being drafted in 1993 but only being 25 years old.
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
Man, I was really pulling for Lumsden. He has been around the block quite a bit, is he even eligible to be on the practice squad?
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
I think as soon as Duckett signed Lumsden was as good as gone.
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
for the record
Eddi Johnson Draft: 2003 - 6th round (7th pick) by the Minnesota Vikings |

I don't think he was even that close to making the team. He was already buried behind Betts and Cartwright. |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
lumsden was just another example of the coaching staff overhyping a player (like todd collins, taylor jacobs, ladell "i'm so good they got duckett" betts, karon riley, zak keasey, etc etc etc).
he was big and ran fast, but they only gave him 2 carries in 4 games, so that's about as serious as they were about him. I believe he's probably eligible for the practice squad... but he won't end up there - we already have 5 RBs (portis, betts, rock, sellers, duckett) and if that was their plan, he wouldn't have been cut until the last deadline. |

Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
we also signed vernon fox, who i believe played for the lions last year... don't know much about him.
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
i wouldnt take jl over any of the backs we have left. have the redskins ever had a practice squad player on the active roster?
|

very much a part time player. that's all i got. madden has him as a very average backup FS :P |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
i can answer that question myself. patterson played against dallas last year and i believe he was on the practice squad

any of what backs we have left? portis? lumsden runs a 4.4, but he didn't exactly show much outside of a couple days of training camp. when i went he didn't do anything special, but reports from other days said that he looked better then. and yeah, i believe farris was signed off the PS last year, among others. |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
lumsden I would say has been our best back of the preseason thus far that has played. Cartright is no good at RB, but he is a good special teams back. I think we should have kept lumsden
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
yea nobody should know about him....4 years in the league 2 with the chargers 2 with the lions....1 career INT with 25 yard return No TD...and in four years....grand total of 65 tackles....2 pass def.....AWESOME!
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
Never mind Lumsden. I think the bigger story is Dmitri getting cut. With him, Antuan Edwards, and Aric Williams that's three DBs being released. None of them are all-pros. Still, considering our lack of secondary depth it's a bit surprising
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
I'm not even going to check ES, but do you think there is a memorial service going on for the cutting of Lumsden?
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
no real suprise there was it?
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
lumsden had like 4 carries for 14 yards. i don't see how everyone thinks he's better than rock or betts or whatever, unless they're buying all the coaches pre-season hype. If that's the case though, i've got a taylor jacobs jersey to sell you ;) or todd collins, your choice.

All I can hope is that people will stop freaking talking about him now that he's gone. When I'm reading Skins news, it's like I have to wade through pages of "Lumsden rocks my nuts off!" and "Lumsden is the father of my child!" threads. |

we got rumph, fox, and battle still. DBs have been turn-stiling in and out. I guess they just have a limited number of spots for DBs and they're maxed out looking for guys that can sorta play. dimitri is just another #5 corner... battle and rumph are both better, even though their tour with the skins may also be somewhat limited. |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
I guess we'll be going DB with our pick this year.

they'll just be replaced with "look at lumsden now" and "he never got a chance" threads. you'll never win. that means you lost. you're a loser, dude, a ****ing loser. ;) |

1st, 5th, 6th, 7th baby! our low picks are typically worthless though :( they did a bit better this year. |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
Let's just call it the Sultan McCullough crush syndrome.
Lumsden is just the latest version of it. |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
Only problem is, we're trading the Lumsden hype for the Novak hype.
At least the Novak hype is more warranted. |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
Now come on fellas, don't hate on Lumsden. He ran hard and to tell you the truth he probably would still be on the roster if it were for him being a) injured and b) on a team loaded in the RB department.
I liked what I saw from him and I'm not ashamed to admit it. :Smoker: |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
lumsden would be at BEST the 6th best RB on the team. Novak could easily be the #1 kicker AND punter.
Sad but true. |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
saden, you forgot c) he is not an nfl caliber running back. and i wonder what the coaching staff thinks of mike rumph so far? it seems like he is doing an ok job so far. but what the hell do i know?
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
so far i like rumph. he's not a starter though, at least not from what i've seen. seems like he could be a competent tackler though.
|
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
No way Lumsden was going to crack this roster, IMO. As for hyping players, the ONLY players you ever hear about are long-shots (at least from Gibbs--he almost never singles out players, unless it's the top couple of obvious guys, or James Thrash and Super-Smart Mark Brunnell ;)).
Hopefully, we'll find a punter better than Frost! How hard can that be??? |
Re: Lumsden and Patterson Cut
apparently pretty hard :(
