Give the Bird to the Boo-Birds

I could stomach our offense and defense last night, but I could not stand the pathetic individuals booing our team at the stadium last night. People were booing in the first half at the red-zone offense. As bad as the red-zone offense was, there is simply no excuse for booing your team ... especially when they are in the lead and just scored 3 points.

If people want to complain about the team, do it here, to your friends, to your girlfriend, but do not boo your team during the game. What possible good is that going to do?

I find fickle fans disgusting, especially the fickle ones who boo our team in our house. In my mind, booing your team is borderline treason.

Re: Give the Bird to the Boo-Birds

I really hate the 350+ pound guy that was sitting next to me screaming at people to sit down when the vikings were facing 3rd and long. I said to him, "no one blocks my view when I watch the game at home," because I don't want to hear that crap. I was one of those people standing up and screaming my ass off, what's why I go to the games. I consider myself a smart fan: I sit and watch when we have the ball; I don't get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of a series; and I stand up and make noise when the other team has the ball. When did this become wrong?
And, the same thing happened to my sister in a different section5 minutes before kickoff!

We both paid $120 for upper level seats, so you can bet your ass we are going to be standing up and cheering when the other team has the ball!

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!?!?!?!

I can't say I heard much of boo our own team though, personally. But you're right, that crap is unacceptable.

I heard it twice. Even Kornheiser commented on it.

Get out of here...booing is the highest form of expressing your dissatisfaction. The Redskins should be booed, especially with the way they came out the second half. Hopefully it will motivate them to win at home.

Ask players about the effect of booing. I doubt that they tell you that booing inspires them to perform better. Believe it or not, players are smart enough to know when the fans are going to be unhappy and when they need to step it up. All booing does is to make the opponent happier and dampen your team's spirits.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say, "booing is the highest form of expressing your dissatisfaction." Booing is the equivalent of dropping a deuce on your team's face.

I agree with Saden -- as fans we have very few ways to vent our frustrations with team play. If I were a player, and my fans started booing, I'd be like damn -- we better step it up.

We have plenty of ways to vent our frustrations (e.g. thewarpath.net) and, in any event, we shouldn't vent TO our team. Complain to me, your brothers, your friends, your girlfriend, but booing the team at their own house (IMHO) is unacceptable.

Re: Give the Bird to the Boo-Birds

AMD - you should have thrown a twinkie down the aisle and told him to fetch...

There are certainly situations that it is acceptible to boo. Like the refs when they make a bad call, or the guy down the way who buys Michelob Ultra, or even late in the 4th quarter when the team punts when down by 6, or when your kicker horribly shanks a 48 yarder. However, when your team has the lead, it is not acceptible to boo.

Re: Give the Bird to the Boo-Birds

Pretty much what Bohnzie said. There are times to boo, when refs make bad calls, and etc. But your not helping the team when you boo them at their own home stadium.

Oh come on...I hear the same train of thought coming out of people who say "we shouldn't question the president in time of war." Sorry but I'm for freedom of expression at all times. Booing is A-OK anytime, anywhere in my book.

Re: Give the Bird to the Boo-Birds

I'm with Sheriff. Gee, that's great that booing makes you feel better by "expressing dissatisfaction." Gee, now that we've all expressed ourselves, let's all have a good cry about the team's performance and go out for manicures.

NO.

Your team is down and playing like crap, you don't go off on the fan's version of an emotional tirade which is booing. You suck it up and you cheer harder.

Booing the team makes it seem like you demand them to win because you're entitled because you paid money. That's not how it works. You're either part of the problem or part of the solution. Booing just causes problems. Cheering louder so that Minnesota can't hear the audibles would be part of the solution.

Re: Give the Bird to the Boo-Birds

If you boo, then your just an impatient self-asbsorbed passionless bandwagon hopper that should be thrown out the stadium. I'm sick of fair-weather fans... if you want to express your discontent, do it in the forum.

For the record...just because the 'skins are a work in progress (oh wow are we really that suprised?) doesn't mean its time to abandon ship. Nothing looked awful last night. The offensive timing is starting to come together and it will be hard to stop the weapons. Have faith...

and if you lose it... don't boo.

Re: Give the Bird to the Boo-Birds

It does get out of hand sometimes...look how the boo-birds in New York are screwing with A-Rod's head.

Booing a bad decision or boneheaded play is ok, but don't boo your own team every time they don't score immidiately. More often than not, it will make the players get out of their gameplan by overplaying/overthinking or it will just make them not care.

Home teams NEED their fans on their side.

Lets not talk politics. The two situations are worlds apart. Booing is disrespectful, serves no purpose whatsoever, and is counter-productive.
Let's just agree to disagree on this one.

Ever hear players talk about the feeling they get from hearing the roar of the crowd in a packed stadium after scoring a touchdown? They talk about it all the time how the roar of the crowd makes them feel euphoric. You're crazy if you think booing doesn't produce the opposite effect.

The team looked terrible. I was at the game. And yes, I booed the team when they looked like ass. I also screamed my ass off on 3rd downs when the Vikes had the football and that didn't seem to make a damn bit of difference. When I pay as much as I did for a ticket, I'll make whatever noises I want at the football game. I wanted them to know I was disgusted. They should have dominated the wack ass Vikings instead they looked terrible.

And don't give me this "bandwagon" garbage. I've lived and died with this team my entire life.

First, I don't think they need you booing to know fans are going to be pissed. Second, I STRONGLY believe that booing encourages your opponent. Third, what IF ANY good does booing do? Fourth, they didn't look terrible.

I don't disagree with people booing but I can say I never and never will boo at any player. Booing doesn't seem to psychologically motivate anyone to do better.

Whether booing encouraged the Vikings or not, I can't say. I also can't say that booing doesn't discourage the Skins. Personally, I couldn't have cared last night. I was pissed. That was a team they should have rolled. The Vikings are not a playoff team this season, IMO. The Skins looked terrible in the context that they should have wiped FedEx Field up with the Vikings. And Brunell, Betts, and Rogers all looked horrendous last night. Brunell stared down receivers and barely even looked in Lloyd's direction last night. That's why I booed that team. I was in the other end zone and saw Lloyd standing in the end zone with no players inside of 3 yards of him. I saw Brunell stand there for about 3+ seconds and then roll away from a rush and throw it away on 3rd and goal. I couldn't take that crap anymore. That's why I was booing the offense...that and the beer and no food I consumed yesterday, also.
