let's talk offensive line
With that great effort yesterday they are definitely deserving of their own thread. I'm still in shock over how we pushed around the Jags up front. That's no small task, we're talking about one of the best interior lines in the league and we basically manhandled them for 60 minutes. These guys really manned up and played physical.
I love some of these quotes:
"People are starting to believe on this team that we can fight anybody," Sellers said. "We knew what we had to do and we went out and did it. We're not punks, we're not going to be treated like punks, and we're not going to let anyone take advantage of us."

Samuels recalled telling his teammates as they prepared to take the field for each series to make each hit on a Jaguars player a little harder than the last. "Hit them, again and again," Samuels said he told his team. "They don't want any part of us."
I said it in another thread, if these guys can keep it up the sky's the limit for this offense. They were outstanding yesterday, just outstanding. |
Re: let's talk offensive line
This is why I took the o-line for MVP. They domainted. Every play they dominated. Moss was great, as was Portis. Brunell looked really good. But the o-line simply had more big plays than any of them since they dominated every play against a rightfully vaunted d-line. Their big plays aren't as sexy as the others but they are just as important.

All I can do is SMILE!!!!!!! I'm just so happy!!!!
|
Re: let's talk offensive line
Ive been singing their praise in other threads, but I'll chime in here too. It seemed to me that they didn't have an answer for our guys pulling and leveling everyone in their path, and I've been critical of Dockery, but the big boy can even move around a bit too!
I think a couple of these guys are going to be in Hawaii this season! |
Re: let's talk offensive line
hesscl should be happy. She's the Queen of Morale. LOL
One of the best wins in a long time. |

One of the best wins in a long time.
:) Where is Southpaw!!??? I have some crow for him!! :) I really believe in Gibbs and I believe when we screw up he fixes it. Yesterday proved that!! |
Re: let's talk offensive line
Aw, come on. We're all fans here. Save that for people like troll99. :D

Re: let's talk offensive line
I read those quotes in the WP this morning, I was like Sellers is gangasta!!
Let's take this show to NY. |
Re: let's talk offensive line
Sellers was a beast yesterday in the run blocking. I loved the one play in the 4th qtr where Portis got on Samuels and Dockery's back and just plowed forward for 12 yards. Dominate!!!!!!
I am a little worried about the talk of Thomas' hamstring. Hopefully they can hold him out of practice a couple of days and he can get healthy again. |
Re: let's talk offensive line
Everytime I looked at the line on running plays, I saw Randy Thomas pushing Marcus Stroud 10 yards off the ball. Stroud was just looking at him like jeez who the hell are you?
Seriously, our boys got marbles. |
Re: let's talk offensive line
It was a thing of beauty. The only reason I gave Moss the gameball was the YAC. I love the YAC! The O-line deserves a week of dinner at Maestro's on Brunell and Portis, though!

Re: let's talk offensive line
You know who was down field blocking two guys on Moss's first touchdown? It was President Clinton...that man is a baller. The entire RB crew did a fantastic job blocking.
p.s. Someone get highlights of the game up so i can enjoy the game over and over. |

This team plays as a team. Whenh the o-line does well everyone else steps up their game and captilalizes. Things like that is what we have been missing for years. We need to keep that going. |
Re: let's talk offensive line
I think we are realy seeing this O start to jell as a team with all of the players doing a very good job. What I like is every week it seems to get just a little better and if that keeps up and we stay healthy who knows what our team can do.

Re: let's talk offensive line
YES. O line was beautiful...especially the right side. Jansen and Thomas and even Rabach were laying out some serious pancakes on the running plays and Brunell had time to throw due to the comfy pocket he was throwing from. Great job Buges!!

Re: let's talk offensive line
The Dirtbags are really coming into their own right now, I believe in 4 games thats the 3rd time we've stopped an opponent from registering a sack, with only the 6 sack debacle in Dallas as the only poor day.

Re: let's talk offensive line
The key this week will be whether they can maintain that same type of intensity for the Giants. In particular, Samuels and Jansen -- if they can hold Usi and Strahan by themselves, that really opens up Saunders with his passing options.
By the way, I haven't really noticed, but Gibbs used to help out his offensive tackles with a tight end to get extra help on pass protection. Seems like Samuels and Jansen are one-on-one for just about every play. Am I right on that? Or has anyone else seen Saunders leave in extra guys for blocking? |
Re: let's talk offensive line
That was the best o-line performance by the skins in years. Just dominant. By the end, the Jags DID NOT WANT TO BE HIT! And that's a serious D line.
The pulling has been stellar. Seeing Samuels, Dock, Thomas, and Jansen come around the ends and just BURY people gets me pumped. Not to mention the excellent leads by Sellars, the great blocking by Cooley (kind of lost in his 70 yard day--that was one of his best days as a BLOCKER), and what can you say about CP? His block on Moss's first TD was the kind of thing that puts to rest any thoughts that CP is a me-guy, from the U, etc (not that folks here think that...). He dived head first into that DB and just smashed him. With sore shoulders no less. Man. Props to Buges for making it go, even when Saunders brought in some changes (though it really looks to me like in the last 2 games, we've gone back to a real GIBBS style--anyone else think that? All the counters, etc?). If this line keeps it up, we will go far. |
Re: let's talk offensive line
woah woah woah... one game at a time sleep

Ummm.. I was talking about THIS game, my man. Note the "IF" in front of my last point. That is, of course, a big if. BUt these last two games have been encouraging, to say the least, meast. |
Re: let's talk offensive line
wasn't it 2 weeks ago where everyone was wondering about buges and our line? what a difference a win against a quality team makes. i think Saunders was masterful with the play calling, helping the oline effort. but the dirt bags were magnificent yesterday. and my man portis is a hell of a football player. i don't think there isn't anyone he cant block
|
Re: let's talk offensive line
I agree. I still think thomas is the best, but man... what happened to dockery? after two terrible games, he's really turned it on... he's doing some harcore roadgrading.

It just depends on whether the OTs can hold their own. If not, saunders WILL throw in TE help, as evidenced by the 2005 Chiefs offense. |
