LA Responds to Critizism

He's clearly still got a bug up his ass about Gibbs. At least he didn't refute that he didn't understand the playbook. |
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
i can't wait till the game to see arrington get knocked out by sellers
i just saw the interview on tv and i think lavar is a big dick now! he kept our playbook, which is a bitchy thing and also what that interview didn't say is that lavar said, when asked would u of done anything diffrently?, he answered "get the hell out, sorry it took 2 years to get out" i think that lavar will b a non-fator, even though it feels as though he will be a big factor. thats my perdiction this week |
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
"I've been feeling that ever since the fans here have been feeling like maybe they shouldn't have brought me here," he said, "that's the emotion I'm riding. Not that I need to prove something to the Redskins. I need to establish who I am within this organization, within this community. That's what I'm riding on. And I'm high on it right now."
Oh, he's high all right...... Whiff........ |

He's clearly still got a bug up his ass about Gibbs. At least he didn't refute that he didn't understand the playbook.
I said when JG came back to the team and stole LaVar's thunder there would come a time when we would see the real LaVar. That interview was the real LaVar. Sell those #56 jerseys back to him. |
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
I don't think he has much of a right to open his yap and act like he's actually done something with the Giants organization when he hasn't.
LA needs to stop being such a crybaby and shut his trap and actually PLAY some football instead of acting like he's gonna be such a pivtal part of game on Sunday. He hasn't done anything yet (past few years included), I seriously doubt he'll do anything now. I think the baby needs to go home, grab a bottle and get burped. Cause all that gas is making him quite bitter. |
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
I think he definately feels he has something to prove. People that play like that can unfortunately be dangerous. I am not saying he is going to be, Mean Joe Green wouldn't have much of an impact if our offense is clicking. But, I think the animosity comes from him being so deep into the community, the Redskins, the fans. Even after Shawn Springs little jab about him not knowing the playbook, he said LaVar was a diehard Redskin. I think all this hurt him more emotionally than a lot of people want to say. Even though, he also has to understand the NFL is a business and very rarely do you finish your career with the team that drafted you. I have always been and always will be a fan of LaVar the person, and a fan of LaVar Arrington the player 14 games a year.

Re: LA Responds to Critizism
What a dope he turned out to be! When the Skins got rid of him i was sad to see him go but now i wish we did it earlier. Who does he think he is talking sh!t about Coach Gibbs?
|
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
I read in another article ("60 seconds with Lavar) in which he was asked which coach he would most not like to play for. He said Joe Gibbs. I can't even begin to debate why that is such a ridiculous statement. I wrote LA off long ago when he said, "Whose jersey do you see more of in the stands?" Arrogant SOB. Joe made the right choice sending his sorry ass packing and I'm sure he's not losing any sleep over it.

Re: LA Responds to Critizism
I mentioned this in another thread but I think it is relevant here. I heard lavar on the John Thompson show right after the Seattle loss, and he said that we were building something special here, and that he hoped he could be a part of it. He said that he would be willing to take a paycut to stay here. That's why all his comments are so disingenuous. Should have gotten out 2 years ago? He was on radio begging to stay a few weeks before they cut him! What a jerk! For someone with an ego his size, it is tough to come terms with the fact that he failed as a Skin. No one had a grudge against him, he just didnt make the team better, that's why he didnt play. There wasnt an anti-Lavar conspiracy. Its not a feckless organization. He failed to make us better, end of story.
I went to Penn State and always had affection for him, but looking back I can see that I defended him way past the point it was appropriate for me to do so. So to everyone on this board whom I argued with the last two years about whether Lavar should be playing or not, let me say that I am sorry, and I was completely wrong. |

Re: LA Responds to Critizism
i saw this interview on comcast...lavar was definitely pissed off. he definitely has some hard feelings, and when gibbs was mentioned he got REALLY pissed off. the whole wanting to get out 2 years ago thing was rediculous though, kind of a slap in the face to those who loved him when he was here
|
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
I'm a little tiny bit dissapointed in our Skins for making comments about him like that. I don't like any players talking bad about one another. It's just not cool. Everyone should have respect for the other guy...

Re: LA Responds to Critizism
Hess, are you serious....if you want want to be a gentleman, go play Chess. This is football!!
|
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
yep, hess. I don't like OUR players talking bad about anyone ... all they should be thinking about is themselves and executing the gameplan. as for others ... I don't care if they get distracted thinking about us.

Re: LA Responds to Critizism
Sorry... but what goes around comes around.

This is GIBBS football, and Skins don't act like that... or I would at least hope they wouldn't.... Save it for TO. |

Lavar hasn't bad mouthed the Skins while in NY.... |

That's correct. He only bad mouthed the Redskins while he was a Redskin. |
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
Let LaVar be pissed, who cares, is anyone really worried about a LB with a bum knee who's past his prime?
I really think Lindsey and Springs tried to get in his head and it obviously worked. He's going to be so amped up he'll probably burn out after the first play. |

Good answer :towel: |
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
Knowing our luck, he will have a stellar outing against us, and fade back to mediocrity immediately after. Lavar probably comes away with an INT, a sack and a couple of huge hits.
|
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
LaVar is not an impact player anymore and unfortunately for him he doesn't know it yet. His anger is conveniently pointed towards the Skins organization but watching him play now it is readily apparent that he is a shell of his former self. His lack of explosion is obviously due to his knee and watching him play the last few games up here in NYC--he runs more upright than I ever remember. He just can't get low anymore. Coupled with his lack of speed now--LaVar is rendered mediocre.
I always liked LaVar and he paid his dues during those lean years here but now I just feel sorry for him. He's almost irrelevant now. Is he still capable of a big game? Maybe. Will it happen this week? Who knows. I'm just glad it's LaVar that the Skins are facing as opposed to a playmaker like Shawn Merriman. Or Urlacher. Or Sean Taylor... |
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
think he will get booed now when he returns to fed ex? i wasnt sure before, now i think he will big time
|
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
more lavar threads please.
|
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
yeah, and the mods wonder why they get hijacked:)
|
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
LA should have done what he said...which was if i am not going to play for the skins i should retire.
|
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
if he retired, it'd kill our cap. buying himself out was extremely stupid (for him) but it was great for the skins cap. of course, they turned around and overspent on carter and arch, but that' life.

Re: LA Responds to Critizism
When Lavar Arrington was at the height of his popularity in Washington, was he the most popular player by a wide margin?
Was he the fan favorite? I get the feeling that he was very hurt by a perceived rejection by Gibbs and Williams |

Was he the fan favorite? I get the feeling that he was very hurt by a perceived rejection by Gibbs and Williams
I can't speak for others. For me, he was certainly the most exciting player we had in those days. He could flash some speed, now. (Putting "now" at the end of sentences is a bad habit I have picked up from watching Parcells pressers.) Those teams he played on were mostly bad, so I think a lot of fans did kind of hold on to his style of play as a consolation. And he was very good. He never took over games the way some of us had hoped. Like Reggie in Philly or L.T., but he was exciting. I'm trying to think of someone else who was also popular, but I think he was it. Maybe Champ. Smooty was popular. I have to say, also, that the spectacle of an athlete who doesn't realize he's washed up is awfully pathetic. That media up there is not going to be polite, once the full realization sets in. |

Was he the fan favorite? I get the feeling that he was very hurt by a perceived rejection by Gibbs and Williams
You hit it on the head. Lavar was the most popular player here by a long shot, until Clinton Portis arrived into town. Unlike Lavar, Portis was a favorite of Gibbs. That also, unfortunately, coincided with Lavar's injury and he turned out to be a non-factor in games, which began his slide in popularity. The perceived rejection of Lavar came from Williams and Lindsey, not from Gibbs. Lavar feels Gibbs' fault is that he didn't go out of his way to declare support for Lavar as he would've done for his hand-picked boys Brunell or Portis. He thinks Gibbs should've made it clear to the defensive coaching staff not to malign Lavar. Wasn't going to happen since Gibbs ceded control of the D to Greg Williams, who obviously has a tough-love style of player management. Lavar couldn't relate to tough-love given his prior superstar status. |

With LaVar, they just couldn't get him to buy in. It was just a bad fit for both sides from the beginning. I think blame has to lie with both sides, and in the end parting ways was the only solution. |

He knocked Cadillac Williams out the playoff game in Tampa last year. Lavar can still bring it, once he figures out which way the play is going. |
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
after watching that video, I honostly feel he is totally pissed off by not being a Redskin. I have watched other interviews of people playing their former teams and have not seen so much annimosity that LaVar carries. He does blame Gibbs for not being here, that is for sure. LaVar is a very emotional guy. he feels betrayed to an extent for putting everything he had into the Skins. But, once LaVar figures out that the NFL is a multi billion dollar business and things like that happen, he will feel a lot better. I dont think he really wanted to play with anyone but the Redskins. and unfortunately the people that make the decisions for the Redskins didn't feel the same way. I may get bashed for sort of taking up for LaVar, as I usually do, but hey I like the guy. Like I said before, I hope he stinks it up twice a year and the bug dirtbags up front and sellers knock that funny little face mast of his off. but, I also hope he doesnt get a clean shot on Brunell. As old and fragile as Brunell is, he may break in half.

Re: LA Responds to Critizism
Lavar keeps saying that Lindsey, Gibbs and Shawn Springs are just "showing themselves" to everyone. Well god help us, we wouldn't want a linebackers coach who takes less than stellar talent and makes them play well and disciplined as a unit, a head coach who already has his bust in the hall, and a DB who the defense is missing greatly because HE IS AN IMPACT PLAYER, to show themselves. These guys "show themselves" with their production. Lavar needs to shut up, he sounds stupid.
|
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
Even though some of the lines were funny, I wish we had stayed out of this Arrington nonsense...we got Springs popping off and he's not even playing. And Coach Lindsey of all people has to get in a shot. The redskins in Gibbs first tenure never gave a team one shred of buleton board material.

So true, and I'm glad he is gone for that reason. |
Re: LA Responds to Critizism
My favorite part of the whole interview was the beginning when he says he though about it for 2 seconds and decided not to comment about Springs' and Lindsay's comments, and then runs his mouth about it for a rather lengthy amount of time. It's funny how that always seems to happen in his interviews, Lavar will say he's not going to talk about the 'Skins, and then as the interview/press conference goes on, he gets more and more worked up about it. I could not agree more with the previous post about Gibbs stealing Lavar's thunder as the face of the franchise. Even with that, however, Lavar could have bought into the system and been a good productive player under Gibbs/Williams, and still been hugely popular here, instead he decided to pout when things did not go his way, and you saw the real Lavar.
