What is wrong with our defense that we can not get to the QB?

Oh, this thread isn't about my frustrations at home (ba dum chschshcs)

No, I think the reason is probably that we can't bring the blitz like the good ole' days of 2005. With corner depth at a minimum we can't afford to bring the heat and leave anyone in 1 on 1 coverage. The GW defense staple was the blitz, without that we're nothing special, if not downright bad.

It's definitly something of concern, and IMO more-so than our QB situation.

and if we're keeping track... i loose points for my first sentence.

Because we're married. That's why we can't get penetration (unless we get half of us a little tipsy, so we forget the kids are in the next room).

Carter is one-dimensional (almost pure speed rush), so without an interior push, he gets herded to the deep outside. Daniels is simply good - not great or threatening.

Frankly, I'd recommmend starting Wynn at one of the interior spots. While he isn't going to be a run-stopper on the inside, he may provide enough of a focus for the opponents to allow his linemates a little more room.

Must ...resist...overwhelming...urge...

Without a blitz from the DB postion it makes it hard for our guys to generate any sort of decent pass rush, especially with Griff and Sal out. Maybe Springs will be able to jump in a few times.

That being said. I still think the key to the game as has already been demonstarted by last year's Chargers and Steelers is that Peyton can't handle constant pressure. It is time for Daniels to recall whatever motivation he had during last years Dallas game (@ FedEx) and for Andre Carter to play pissed and possessed. I think the secondary is going to have to pla....

Maybe our D-line wasn't as good as we thought it was in the past but we made up for it with good blitzing from the LBs and the DBs.

GDub isn't using nearly as many blitz packages as he has in the past...the OLine doesn't have to worry about corners and safeties coming from the outside.

Perhaps it's because you're trying to fill the Grand Canyon with a #2 pencil?

My impressin is that we run very few stunts on the D line. We got a sck on a stunt last week. Don't know why we don't do that more. We seem very predictable when we blitz as well. Whatever it is, we've got to fix it, fast.

Size does matter?

Because no means no!

We are selling our blitzes way to early. We need to wait until the last possible second to show the blitzes. When we show it too early the QB has a chance to switch to max protection and our guys cant win the one on one battles.

We haven't been blitzing as many people as we have the past two years. They may say we blitzed 60% of the game, but sending 5 is blitz (one LB) The first couple of years GW would send 6 to 7 guys, forcing quick throws or dump offs. I think we have to get back to that. We are allowing teams to read their progressions and deliver the ball. If they are forced to throw quickly, the corners, LB's will only have to cover for 1 to 3 seconds instead of the 4 seconds they are with the limited pressure. I think going into the colts game, we have to send A TON pressure. Manning can be rattled into bad throws. (look at the games he is hounded all day) Plus, I think the corners need to play up on the WR. get a good jam, to throw the timing off. Colts are all about timing. if we send 6 to 7 guys, jam the receivers at the line I think we can get some 3 and outs and maybe a pick by a LB> If you play scared against the colts they will eat us up. We have to bring the pressure to them, especially if Joe and Grif are out.

The playoff game with Pittsburg last year was a perfect example of what you're talking about. Their defense pressured Manning into submission, so bad in fact, Manning called out his OL after the game.

I'm actually suprised GW hasn't been bringing more heat despite the fact our secondary is banged up. GW is a deciple of Buddy Ryan, and Buddy always felt that you may make some plays against his blitzes but the odds were in his favor that he'd make more plays against the offense than vice versa. I say throw some of that caution to the wind, bring the heat and go after them, we have nothing to loose. I'd rather force Manning to make quick decisions than just stand back there all day and pick us apart.

I think Springs was/is a lot more critical to the blitz packages then anyone had been willing to accept
