If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
... what would you say?
I would say: How did you feel last year on the way to play the Giants, then the Eagles.. then the Bucs? What was in your mind? What was the feeling in your gut?? Remember to play football and forget about the money. Get out there, do your best and play for each other and as a team, and don't give up until you win. I know that each of you has the talent and the heart to turn things around. Now get out there and show the world who the SKINS really are!!!!!!!! The fans will be waiting for you to turn the corner and bring it home!!!!! |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
I used to work at this tv station, and our lead anchor would pepper the walls of his office with fan mail. But it wasn't your normal fan mail, it was more like hate mail. They were all letters from viewers telling him how much he sucked and how much they hated watching him, etc. I asked why he never put up the positive mail because he got plenty. He said these motivated him more.
So I'd probably print out a bunch of the posts that have been written here and tell the Redskins players to put them all over their locker room and tell them to look at it each day and use the negativity as motivation. And then Monday during his press conference, Joe Gibbs could step to the podium to address his critics and say this |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
i'd just show clips of Mike Sellers hitting people this year and last. then walk out.

I seriously doubt there is anything I could say to motivate a room full of men to go rip some heads off. I can barely get my husband to listen to me.

Good one T. There's enough negativity here for next season too. I'm not sure they need a pep talk. More like a kick in the A$$. The coaches could use one as well. |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
we start over right now, a new season. forget the past. we are going back to redskin style football . we hit everything that moves. we are a team not individuals. you've done it once before you can do it again. one game at a time. just play ball like your a kid again, have fun, run thriough the catches, run and people.leaven it on the feild is our credo, no more prisoners, pour it all out. when in doubt knock'em out.don;t stop til the whistle.and all the respect, accolades and playoffs will come.one in unity, one in a unit. no i just us.c'mon and let's go break in some colts.

Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
...Guys, we have been through some tough times here. I don't think that any of us imagined going 2-4 and having our playoff hopes on the edge of falling, but the fact is that we are 2-4 and we have all gotten here together...Now, we have two choices: The first choice is that we go out and keep playing like we've been playing: solid, unconsistent, and unspectacular, OR each and every one of us makes a commitment today that we are all going to work together and individually.
Each and every single one of us can beat the man in front of him, but right now we need to beat that person inside of us first. Guys we have everything we need to get us from here until December...and I can't guarantee that we will make the playoffs...or even start winning games, but I feel that the only way that we have a shot is to go out there this Sunday...against a Colts team that hasn't yet been beaten...and come together. Every single one of us needs to leave EVERYTHING on that field. Come out there like everything is on the line, because honestly...IT IS! Our playoff hopes are on the line, our season is on the line, and everything we've done up to now...the hardwork...the sacrifices...the honor...it's all on the line. If we don't somehow do something magical this Sunday in Indy, all that stuff is going down the drain and none of us will ever be able to get it back! Come together guys...because this Sunday...none of us will leave the field...until the Colts 'Hail to the Redskins.' |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
I'd go with my all-time favorite rallying cry:
Joe Gibbs: Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no! GW:[whispering] Germans? Bugel: Forget it, he's rolling. Joe Gibbs: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... [thinks hard] the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! [runs out, alone; then returns] What the fuck happened to the Redskins I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Coach, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Manning, he's a dead man! Dungy, dead! Polian - Bugel: Dead! Coach is right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional offense that could take years and cost millions of $$$. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part. GW: We're just the guys to do it. Team: Let's do it. Joe Gibbs: LET'S DO IT!! |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
Anyone watch Friday Night Lights? He took their worthless asses out in a Katrina like down pour and made them run windsprints up a steep hill until they threw up. Then he pep talked 'em until they wanted to do more. All at like midnight. We need our guys on D to stop thinking and just play f*cking football. Go out and hit the crap outta people everywhere. If you're gonna get beat make it because you were trying to blow the guy up rather than play a perfect technique that gets you beat.
On offense. Grow a set. Start getting mean. When you block someone they should hurt from it. At least one guy from the other team a game should be out of the game because we blocked him so hard he couldn't get up. Stop all this panty waist cutesy crap and beat the crap out of the other team. |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
Id walk in suited up in full game gear.. pads and all, and shit myself... and tell Mark Brunell if he ain't gettin benched Rabach is, and I'm second string...
|
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
Only thing that should pep them up is to say that Dallas has a better record than you do. That would be enough for me to whip the first person's butt I see...

shhhh... don't tell him.... What is there to say? I don't know, but if there is one person who can motivate a team psychologically, regardless of the sports, it's gotta be Joe Gibbs. I think he'll say something along the lines of "This is our superbowl".... "This team has to show they've got heart".... it won't be the usual. He's good at being crafty and adapting his shpeal to the game. Redskins haven't look flat effort wise this season IMO. They just simply get beat... it's not a lack of effort, it's a lack of execution thats lead us in the little hole we're in. HTTR, and godspeed Joe and co. |

Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
I'd like to see GW get the defense in front of the flag pole at Redskins Park first thing in the morning. Have the security guards there, and as soon as everyone is gathered, have the flag raised.
THE CANADIAN FLAG Then in the salty terms that GW is capable of (and Gibbs is not), explain to them how important it is that given the way they have been covering this year they better learn the words to Oh Canada because that is exactly where they will be playing next. He would then explain to them that Canadian Football is a perfect fit for this defense given their lack of success on third down. The CFL solves this problem: THERE IS NO FOURTH DOWN IN THE CFL! |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
I would probably make them watch this clip over and over and then we'd talk about how they can incorporate these ideals into each game from here on out...
YouTube - karate kid you're the best around |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
I would have GW give the speech. We need his defense to step up more than our offense. He needs to have the vets create that swagger from the last two years. I dont know what to have him say, but he seems to definately be the most fired up coach...... oh and have buges say something. that man can get an 80 year old women fired up!!

Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
I wish that a pep talk was all we needed, but unfortunately pep talks don't win games.
|
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
AMD, that's a great clip! cobra kai, never die!
|
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
No, Matty is correct. Pep talks don't win games. However, people, and teams can be inspired to rise up and succeed against seemingly huge odds. Hopefully, we have a staff and team that can accomplish that.............NOW!
|
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
I would say one thing and then walk out of the locker room. lets start playing like nfl players. its time to put up or shut up. We lose to the colts this weekend the season is over period.

Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
Remember when football was FUN? let's go out today and have some FUN

Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
I'd just tell them to relax, stop thinking so much and play football like you have been doing since you were 10.

You're point? Doesn't mean it is a bad idea. Actually I think Matty is right. No pep talk ever given won a game. I tend to think the idea that pep talks really inspire is more of a tv-land idea. No one ever played well because someone got them pumped up. I am dubious of the effect of pep talks. Guys either want to play hard or they don't. Maybe a pep talk gets them going but no guy is sitting there in the middle of the fourth quarter thinking "Gee that pep talk has really got me going right now. if it weren't for that great pep talk I'd be going through the motions right now." |

EVERY coach of EVERY team everywhere gives their team "their" form of a "pep talk" before and during every game. I'm pretty sure they don't think they are wasting their time. I feel confident they believe their team benefits from it, and plays better as a result of that. |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
Block, Tackle, Throw, Run and Catch the damn ball!
Make something happen! Damn it! |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
I've heard some pep talks that have gotten me pretty pumped up. It might not last the whole game, but at least when I run out there on the field I am running with some serious passion.
I think a pep talk kind of builds momentum, just like a game-changing play, and the team has to take that momentum, and keep building off of it, if it's going to do anything with that pep talk. |
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
you think washington is negative? hahaha
|
Re: If you could give the Skins a pep talk....
The pressure here is nothing compared to New York, Philly, New England and so on. They turn on those teams so fast it makes your head spin.
